Northside has had a full internal and external refit in the past 3 years.

And yet it's still a kip with too little parking, located on a main road that is constantly gridlocked from dawn till dusk, populated by z-list stores and windy low ceiling corridors.

it will never amount to anything more than a local hub with its present layout or footprint. Should have been knocked and rebuilt (or the site sold).

demolition work for phase 1 is done since a couple of weeks, and workers are working on the foundations now.... finishing by November should be possible.

Has there been any info on what shops are moving in when it's done yet?

Thats a little odd at this stage isnt it, i see the main cores of the building are already up and look to be three storeys anyway so they are obviously expecting to get the permission. Will delay it no end if there are appeals. Has it been announced that Aldi will be going in?

Any idea what supermarket is going in there? Nothing but rumours still. Thanks

Anyone any idea what's going on with the redevelopment of Bayside Centre in Dublin 13. Almost a year into project now and progress is very slow?. Very few men on site most days?...and the new supermarket is in phase 2 of the project....could be years before it finishes. The project seems to be in real contrast to most other building projects these days where buildings seem to fly up.

they applied to add a floor of apartments and council asked for further information a couple of weeks back

The original planning said that it would be a 36mth building project and as mentioned the recent application to change the scheme would probably add to that. Very slow

Has there been any confirmation that its ALDI going into it? The floor space for the anchor shop looks quite small compared to their standard stores.

We're quite far (close to 5-years) into the current building and business cycle, I really hope this one gets finished before the next drop in economic confidence comes around.

i cant see aldi going in with the length of time its taking. aldi would have a place knocked up themselves in no time and im sure would expect the same of a developer/landlord

Local rumour is that Phase 2 will now include a rebuilt Bayside Inn and Community Center. Supermarket space might be big enough for an Aldi yet...

Is there anything more than rumour about the Bayside Inn? Quite fond of it :(

There are no planning applications even lodged for either the Bayside Inn or the community centre so thats probably unlikely.

even the previous larger plans didn 't involved rebuilding those buildings

  • Registered Users Posts: 219 ✭✭PlayByTheRules

Passed it this morning, progress is so slow. Counted maybe 4-5 men on site and they didn't look too busy. They would want to be careful as we are a good few years into this current building cycle and it won't last forever.

I wondered were they going slow in order that they can include that added floor into their workflow

fingal planning asked them to come back with a plan to recess the top floor which they've done so now, its includes having two less apartments on the top floor F18A/0425 http://www.fingal.ie/planning-and-buildings/apply-or-search-for-a-planning-application/search-planning-applications-online/searchplanningapplicationsonline/ http://documents.fingalcoco.ie/NorthgatePublicDocs/00613359.pdf

so they say they was going to be 15 apartments? (including the 4 original ones) and this added floor ( 7 ) and now there will only be 13? so they are applying for exemption to the 10% social housing rule.

those numbers may be wrong buts its really confusing how they describe the number of apartments.

Well played by those involved to get what they wanted. Hopefully they hurry the F up now and get it built. 16 apts is a lot. I'll always amiss the squash and leisure :)

Very likely latest approval will be appealed with ABP

Seems to be some talk that it is a centra moving in rather than an Aldi. New company popped up on the CRO website.

Local councillor saying otherwise though -

    http://jimmyguerin.ie/2018/12/05/shops-at-bayside/

    Anyone know what's going on?

could there be both a centra and aldi, centra is more a convenience store, sells slightly different things to aldi.

I didn't think centra ran "supermakets",but im told they run the supermarket in kilbarrack greendale centra

when is the supermarket suppose to open, its long way off

a lot more building work being done since xmas anyway

Work has certainly speeded up. Was looking at it today, looks like they are putting the extra floor on now. Probably had to wait for steel after the Planning Permission was granted and thats what slowed the whole thing down.

I have again spoken to the Architects and in this regard again confirm that Aldi are still going into Bayside as the main tenant. The work on their unit will be completed by year end and Aldi will then commence their fit out. They have signed a contract for this.

In relation to Centra, they will also be opening a small unit at the southern end of the development but will be more small convenience and newsagents type shop

I hope this clarifies matters for you and if at any stage I can be of assistance please do not hesitate to contact me

    Kind Regards

    Jimmy Gueirn
there you two shops like there used to be

Along with local residents I met recently with the management of Bayside Shopping Centre to get an update regarding the re-development. The key points were:

    • Construction of phase 1 is due to finish in Mid-June and the new Centra will open then

    • The Centra will be about half the size of the previous store and will house the post office

    • Phase 2 construction shall take place between July 1st and February and the new Aldi is expected to open in March or April about 8 weeks after building work is finished

    • The previous provision of 119 car parking spaces will increase to 154

    • The new centre will feature the marble finish throughout the external finish except where some brick work is used for differentiation and will feature a gymn, medical centre, creche, restaurant as well as the existing shops and services which will be renovated

The building work has come on a lot the last few months, wouldn’t be surprised if it’s all finished before that date.

Centra opened yesterday, building for the apartments and Aldi still going on and making slow progress.

Very slow progress and hard to see what the whole complex is going to end up like. I have a fear not all stages will be completed and we will be left with eye-sore sections.

The new Centra is nice though and so is the stone work leading into it.

Place is starting to look good, it's bright, nice materials, good finish.
Had a look at the Bayside Inn yesterday - now that's a place long past it's "sell by" date! This really should be incorporated in the next phase.
The old red brick part of the old centre, hairdressers, munchies, hardware etc is another eyesore...
