Can conceivably see Ding going close, as i can Murphy, though they're both on "wrong" side of the draw. If Ford was to take trump out it would really set the cat among the pigeons in the top half. Ford may well have blown that chance already though.

Dennis Taylor and Ken Doherty on commentary on BBC v Hendon and Neil Foulds on Eurosport. Eurosport for me as Foulds is always worth a listen.

On Ding, if his head is in the right place he definately can go deep and if he got to the one table set he'd be hard to beat. Worth a wee flutter.

One great player i dont give much if any hope for is John Higgins. At his age i think he did brilliantly to reach 3 World finals in a row but losing all three was crushing for him and even.with his mental strength i cant see him reaching a 4th final on the spin. I think Matthew Steevens may beat him in first round.

Ding would have some job to beat Ronnie if he plays him. Just checked on cuetracker. Ding beat Ronnie in the 2017 World QF

Ding picked a silly shot to try and swerve and hit the yellow. It was close to a full ball snooker and coming off the side cushion was far easier. Bad as missing the swerve was he then goes on to leave a free ball.

He had three chances to kill off the frame and try and crush Kings spirit nics and early.

A lack of killer instinct needed to win this tournament. Not a chance the likes of Selby or Higgins would have let that happen.

From memory that was a good contest. Ronnie didnt play bad just Ding came up with the goods over the 2 days. Frustrating guy overall though, such an underachiever considering he was a major title winner at 18. Would be happy enough to see him do it and fulfil all that talent.

In the piece they did about Willie Thorne all said great player - too nice and should have won more.
I felt they could have been talking about Ding.

Remember Selby was doing some analysis for eurosport after he got koed in 2018 and delivering what i thought was a fairly surprising and withering assessment of ding, basically calling him a bottler. In fact 'lacks bottle' were his exact words or close enough. Harsh but probably not too far off being truthful.

I dont know about Ding being a bottler. What i suspect is he doesn't have the same will to win or perhaps will to die to endure the torture of Sheffield as others have. I also never really rated him as good as Higgins, Ronnie and Selby in the safety and tactical department. And he's possibly a little soft without a hard edge that others have. Most top players win the Worlds. He has only reached one final so something wrong for such a good player.

You can think what you like about Anthony Hamilton but personally i find it a bit off for the figurehead of a sport to speak about a player like that. "See ya son." Just a lack of class imo.

And when i heard hearn talk about Hamilton depriving players of an opportunity yesterday, i really wanted someone to ask him how many players had been deprived of opportunities on tour because he'd handed out wild cards to his mates. Not even defending Hamilton, just find some of the criticism of him a touch hypocritical.

Agree with Joe on this, think Hearn came across as a bit of a tosser over it. He's head of snooker, he needs to have a bit of class about him and not react in that matter

Parrot said earlier he'd talked to a few players and pundits and most think Hamilton just being selfish. Judd came out and said the same. So it's by no means just Barry Hearn. I know he's the boss but he didn't get where he is today by skirting around questions and not speaking his mind. You might not agree with him but i think he's a straight talker and talks a lot of sense and he couldn't hide his anger at Hamilton.

I know that. Never said it was just Barry Hearn. Lot of opposition to Anthony Hamilton and lot of support too. I saw Sam Craigie saying he'd no hard feelings at all. I think you can be a straight talker and talk sense without coming across as boorish and vindictive as he sounded to me. But thats just me maybe. I'm not Hearns biggest fan so maybe I'll find fault easier. Others maybe approve of that no nonsense approach and maybe Jimmy getting another card for old times sake.

King fighting hard here. This is what happens when Ding lets a 3-0 lead slip. It gives hope to King who now looks to be really up for it. Ding needs to sharpen up and liven up because hes in a dog fight if he doesn't.

Perhaps looking back on it he may feel he should have replied to the question on Hamiltons withdrawal with ' i hope Anthony is well, enjoying his coco and watching the action in his pyjamas while lying on his sofa and please god we'll all meet up again soon'.

Its a funny game. Remember thinking first couple of frames of the Ken match that King looked all over the place and was there for the taking. Now looks to ne growing in confidence by the frame. Could be danger for ding alright.

Funny part is Boris Johnston's U-turn has made Hamilton both in the right (it was too dangerous yet according to Boris), yet wrong (other players went and he did not). Really odd situation.

So just as King has restored parity and has Ding under a bit of pressure he opens up frame 9 with a shocking blunder that leaves the table at Ding's mercy. And Dind did the business. Not a bad match. Look forward to it resuming tomorrow.

That's two or three times now that Fordy has missed a sitter and let Trump in to eventually leaving him needing two or three snookers and he comes back to the table. For some players you may give them an outside chance of getting those snookers. I dont feel that with Fordy. He messed up badly when he had great chances and then he's playing for three snookers? Why bother. Frames over. Don't waste any more of your time and energy on it. He really doesn't inspire any confidence.
