Everybody’s goals are personal and are amazing to some, and not at all to others. That’s the nature of running though.

Not all national titles have equal difficulty that’s for sure. National 1500m or 400m Championships are obviously considerably stronger than weight for distance, IMRA, ultra distances etc, but placing highly in a championship is a good goal to have, which can push a person on to the next level.

My 2018 goal is 1 run a day.

There was a spell at the start of my marathon training pre-training where I was doing 6 days a week of short distances. I felt really good.
So for 2018 that's the goal.

I've always been a fair weather runner, January will be 3/5km runs with no pace targets.
Will be a real commitment test.

Copying Cartman78's format as not all my goals are time specific

    General Goals:

    - Keep up the foam rolling and strength training
    - Want to do some IMRA, adventure races, cross country races and mud runs this year as I'm not doing a marathon

    Specific Goals:

    - 5K - Firstly get the sub 20 monkey off my back and then aim for under 19:30 ( current PB 20:04)
    - 10 Mile - 70 mins (Soft PB of 73:30)
    - Half Marathon - Under 1:32 (currently 1:34:59!)

Ran a tempo over a 10k very hilly course today. Gave it some for final 2k 40:16 so happy enough with progress made. No flu today but a few pints last night! Few more tonight

Run 3 marathons - Limerick, Dublin and TBD. Will try do all sub 3.40

Sorting out my diet is probably the most important goal though

I don't usually put my goals here, but willing this year...
In general, all my best performances were from back in 2015.
I'm hoping to get back to that level and better it.
My recent sub40 10k has given me confidence that I'm going in that direction.
    With that....

    5K PB 19:14(2015) Goal <19:10
    8K PB 32:02(2017) Goal <31:30
    10k PB 39:58(2017) Goal <39:40
    Half PB 1:29:23(2015) Goal <1:29:00
    Full PB 3:18:41(2015) Goal < 3:08
    50K PB 4:09:59 (2016) Goal < 4:00:00 :)

Some of these might seem a bit random but other factors are included as in I will only be doing one 8k race ect.

I'll be reassessing these as the year progresses as I see how I'm doing.

I'd also like to throw an attempt at XC and track. Try something new and all that....

Hey Enduro - not trying to hijack the thread too much, but what does your training look like in general / this year? I'm familiar enough with your race reports, but I have no idea what happens in between :)

I won't derail the thread by answering that here, but will write something in the ultra thread at some pointwhen I get the chance.

Definitely not this year. Going to focus on the shorter stuff and see where that takes me.

    How will you train differently?

    2018 goals.

    Get running again.
2017 involved surgery, radiotherapy and a return of the dodgy knee, which was probably due to going back running after radiotherapy without doing enough strength and conditioning work.

I’ve never done a marathon so the shorter stuff is generally the focus. As for this year the plan is to spend January building mileage up to 40 miles a week comfortably with a lot of s & c work thrown in.

After that the plan is to tackle a 12 week 10k plan.

    1) Qualify for Boston.

    2) Do a 60km.

    • PB in 5km. (17:59) Aming for sub 17:40
    • PB in 8km. (30:41) Aiming for sub 30
    • 2,000km mileage for 2018

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,301 ✭✭✭Sunny Dayz

My goals for 2018 are probably the same as 2017!
    1. Crack 30 mins for 5km - I've kissed it once or twice.
    2. Hit 60 mins for 10k - current pb 62:58
    3. Run 750 kms - 1,000 may be too ambitious. Get out for more runs, even if they are short ones.
    4. Complete another half marathon.

Number 1 and 2 will be my focus this year. A friend wants to do a half marathon this year so I said I will do it with them, he's not chasing a time, just wants to complete one.

    1. 5k - sub 18 (currently 18:10)
    2. 10k - sub 38 (currently 39:31)
    3. 10 miler - sub 1:05 (currently 1:06:14)
    4. Half - sub 1:28 (currently 1:28:56)
    5. Marathon - sub 3:30 (currently 3:42:30)
    6. Run 1800 miles

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,020 ✭✭✭Kellygirl

    1) Parkrun sub 25 mins
    2) HM sub 2 hours (pb 2:03:55)
    3) Full Marathon - 4:05. May not be realistic as pb is 4:20:05 and I’m not even sure if I’ll get to do a marathon in 2018 - I would be very happy with 4:10 or even 4:15 as long as I get to actually do one.

To break 21 minutes for 5k. Have done 21'08 and 21'09 . Just to enjoy the shorter runs and do a lot of them. No big races that I want to do.

Run crawl walk a 100 mile ultra
Run a sub 3 hour marathon.

2017 exceeded my expectations almost perfect until i twinged my glutimis maximus in my final race on new years eve.

    So here goes.
    5k : sub 17 pb (17.37) so ambitious enough
    5m : sub 30 on (30.37)
10k hate it so staying clear I think
10m: sub 64 Mallow Sub 60 John Buckley
Half: sub 1 20 Clonmel or Charleville
Marathon. Sub 3 Cork Sub 2.50 Frankfurt

Main targets John Buckley and Frankfurt so looking to peak in September/October.

I'm hoping you blog your training weekly! Awesome times, if I could still see you toward the latter stages I'd be very happy in any of those distances

Not easy to do in the same year, though certainly possible.
I strongly suggest doing the sub-3 first, though!

3 or 4 runs a week, every week (starting next week :) )

Win an IMRA race - hopefully the College Champs in my last year of night classes

Beat my fecking age to the top at Slieve Donard - that should be getting easier at least!

    Sub 17 Parkrun
