Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Micheal Martin claims the delay in the air bridges is because there is the fear that if people go away and come back and cause a resurgence of the virus it could jeopardise their aim to get kids back to school. That seems to be their main worry.

If that’s the case you can be sure they will delay it well into August, also them knowing people will less likely able to travel due to going back to school season. Cute hoors.

Maybe MM should be self isolating himself now, after potential exposure (also most if not our entire government) or are they just messing about????

Hi lads, just looking for advice on visiting Dublin for the day on August 1st. Id be getting the train to Limerick and back and I'd be going to the archaeology museum, kilmainham gaol, Chester Beatty library basically a lot of the historical places. Would anyone in Dublin say it's safe enough to do that? I'll be wearing a mask in the train and whenever id be indoors.

Don't you know it's do as we say, not as we do.

Oh, very. Though it does give the rest of us some leverage, thanks Billy :D

It is easier to get under the bus than to die from Covid so, yes it is safe

The issue with travel isn’t Johnny and Mary heading to Benidorm on their jollies. Benidorm has less cases of C19, since the virus outset than a comparative Irish city. But for some reason the government wants to guilt Johnny and Mary in to not going on holiday as if they're going to be bringing home bottled coronavirus with their 200 cigarettes.

Jeez, I know due to this pandemic holiday shaming is de rigueur these days, but do we need to bring in the social stereotyping by looking down your nose at those who "Head to Benidorm on their jollies" and bring home boxes of 200 fags?
I'm surprised you didn't bring in "oh they will lose their benefits" just for good measure..

There have been several accounts of Americans around Kerry. Now I personally haven't seen them as I still haven't been out and about much. But are these just fabricated rumours or is there a grain of truth?

Is a sense of humour now banned as well as our liberty to travel??

If you frequently read these forums and actually read the posts from the various people who contribute you would see that the above poster is not looking down his/her nose at anybody.

Don't know about Kerry or Dublin but there are definitely a good few tourists in Wexford at the minute.

Thought this was the Covid not comedy forum?

You think it's right to stereotype people who want to go on holidays? Isn't that what the issue is now, people being shamed when they want to do something as normal and otherwise socially acceptable as going on a holiday??

This pandemic really does bring out the worst of peoples "opinions."

All of those should be absolutely fine to visit if you're wearing a mask - I know that the Beatty Library are asking people to wear masks for example.

And if you read the posts from that poster you'd realise that you are completely misreading and misinterpreting.

To use Simon Harris' over used words, cop on! And calm down while you're at it and at least be able to figure out who is pro and who is anti going on foreign holidays.

Responsibility is being loaded on the public while Martin/Donnelly/Ryan dither. On radio today again, the famous phrase about testing/tracing was uttered- it’s not there yet. The interviewer does not ask when if ever will it be as we were told it would be in mid May. The school opening is now being put on citizens with no evidence of any testing measures at airports or plans for schools. Paul Reid is anonymous.

20th July it is so, you'd have to imagine the targeted testing is high risk areas

Tourist activity in the city is absolutely tiny. Walk down Grafton St, Dame St or through Temple Bar and you would be lucky to spot one.

Many tourist attractions such as the National Museum, Trinity College, Dublin Castle and Christchurch Cathedral haven't even reopened yet.

Tourist from Brussels seen hugging and kissing friends/colleagues in National Convention Centre last Saturday IDENTIFIED as Billy Kelleher, a FIANNA FAIL MEP, attending election of his turncoat/treasonous party leader, as taoiseach.

Did you visit the salt mines outside Krakow?

Bratislava doesn’t have much to it but still a nice little spot. Those Salt mines in Krakow are class though.

Mines are incredible, the work involved hard to imagine. Not sure what it's like now but we had to walk down the stairs and ascend again in the miners lift . Not good if one is terrified of the dark and confined spaces as we discovered one of our friends was.
Loved the view from the top of the UFO bridge in Bratislava.

Yeah went to the mines. Did Auschwitz before so got mines this time. Great city's to just chill and admire the beauty with a cold drink. I'l admit i was watching the women more then the architecture.

Bratislava is a dump, by far the worst city I’ve visited in Europe. Vienna on the other hand is absolutely stunning.

My priority would be on minimizing the chances of contracting the virus.

If you do pop your clogs, it only costs €5000-€6000 to get your corpse repatriated.
Way less if you get oven baked first.

Any chance of a loan? I presume someone else has access to your €6000 that you've set aside for your repatriation?

I'm flying to malta on 17th for the weekend, back the 20th, does anyone know if I start isolating that day do I still need to do the two weeks from then or can I stop at midnight on the 20th as that's when it ends?

Watching the Govt press conference live, Simon Coveney says the "green list" of air bridge countries will come into effect on July 20th. Only countries with low numbers of new cases will be allowed on the list and they might even find themselves removed from the list if their numbers rise.

Its not illegal, its just an advisory
Its strange though (or is it) that the advisory invalidates all travel insurance
Yet travel insurance is still being sold and doesn't cover covid 19 anyway

That could change : they could tweak the legislation again on July 20th to differentiate between green list and non-green list countries.

Come into effect as you can travel to them from then on, or just announced on the 20th with a date to be determined?

My guess is that the civil servants in Merrion street are busy looking up the ReOpenEu site and scribbling down all the countries currently opened to tourism, and at the same time booking their own vacation time to get in before all the rabble crash the Ryanair site and book a well deserved holiday in Italy, Spain, Greece and South of France etc...
Once Eamon Ryan can figure out how long it will take him to get to the beaches of Spain on a Solar powered air-plane then he will release the list...

I presume 20th July will be an announcement of the criteria and an initial list of countries. They will announce draft criteria and the steps the airport will need to take. They will then go to consultation with the airlines.

It's bizarre. There are flights in and out of Ireland now to plenty of countries and absolutely no ban on Irish people flying. The quarantine enforcement never existed and from an article at the weekend it now appears that the questionnaire and phone call follow up are gone. I've now booked my August flights to Germany, can't wait!

As others have said, the flights are there, they are going everywhere, no cautions, no rules.

So what is the point of Green Lanes in a few weeks?

The new Gov doesn't inspire much confidence tbh. But then again they don't have Tony Holihan to fall back on anymore.

They will blame us eventually, that's for sure.

Due to fly to Greece mid-August had it booked since christmas can WFH so quarantine wasnt going to be an issue. Only concern i have is if someone on the flight tests positive and then 24 hours later im spending my holiday in a quarantine hotel instead of the lovely one I had booked.

    Anyone else worried about this?

What type of consultation with the airlines though? To achieve what? They are supposedly following EU guidance as is.

Airports are open and flights are operating.

On July 1st there were 200 flights in and out of Dublin per a journal. ie article of the same date

No, you probably have more chance of falling overboard on a Greek ferry than that happening..

It's a numbers game. Like the 9 euro meal in the pub, the intention is to try to put off just enough people and make it a pain in the hole. In the case of travel, the strategy is to scare and shame as many people as possible out of going on holiday abroad, or traveling here in the first place.

Judging by comments on here and elsewhere, it is working an absolute treat. I think one thing they couldn't have expected was that an army of green jersey pullers would do half the work for them, hunting and hounding anyone who dare suggest they are going to ignore the advice (and that's all it is, not a rule) and come or go anyway. I'd say they are pretty happy with how their plan is working. Can't blame them.
