Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Eh? You saying you have separate folders for EU and NA?? Don't say that. Don't make me cry!! I just booted the client last night, it patched a bit and said ready.
If I have to go home and download another 24gb today I might lose it :pac:

Anyone having to download a second time pay attention to that post. It says the following:

I CHANGED MY REGION TO EUROPE AND HAD TO INSTALL A NEW VERSION OF THE GAME. DO I HAVE TO INSTALL THE GAME AGAIN IN ORDER TO PLAY IN THIS BETA?
    Updated 02/27/2014 10:21 AM Published 02/24/2014 11:50 AM
If the launcher accidentally downloaded the European version of the beta client, players can still take part in the current beta. The steps are listed below.

    Windows users:

Click "Settings" (marked by a cog symbol) in the top right corner of the launcher.
Change the region to "United States" and click "Apply."
Exit the launcher and locate the client's install folder (most often C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online).
Rename the folder "The Elder Scrolls Online (EU)" to "The Elder Scrolls Online."
Open the launcher to ensure that the region is still set to "United States" in Settings and that it can access the North American server.
    Mac users:

Click "Settings" (marked by a cog symbol) in the top right corner of the launcher.
Change the region to "United States" and click "Apply."
Exit the launcher and locate the client's install folder (Navigate to "Finder", then click "Application" and finally "Zenimax Online").
Rename the folder "The Elder Scrolls Online EU" to "The Elder Scrolls Online."
Open the launcher to ensure that the region is still set to "United States" in Settings and that it can access the North American server.
Players should contact Customer Support if they have any further issues downloading the client or connecting to the beta server.

hmm,. so I created a new character. Just left cold harbour. Was I not supposed to end up in some city instead of Khenarthi's Roost in my case as a wood elf? Anyone else?

I did notice immediately that mobs are slightly more difficult in cold harbour. Me likes!

Played a couple of hours lastnight and enjoyed it.
Take note guys the built on the PTR servers is different to this weekends build,if you watched the video i posted a few pages back it has new combat and NPC collision detection which is the PTR build and is NOT the build this weekends stress test is running which is a shame.

One thing i couldnt miss lastnight was non stop crap talk in chat last night Wildstar sucks,Wildstar this Wildstar that yet when i play Wildstar theres rarely a mention of ESO.

A lot of people were complaining about the wildstar watermark from what I saw. When I first saw the watermark I initially thought it would really bother me, but I stopped noticing it after a few minutes. I understand why they were annoyed though when you consider that ESO has no noticeable watermark.

This is just my luck....again I can not fully enjoy the beta weekend, only been able to play for less than an hour and probably won't be able to play today as well. Hopefully they are gonna have another beta weekend soon.

It's the same in any mmo beta at the moment mate. Everything is crap compared to the one you are playing at that time. Go into wildstar and they complain saying wow and ESO are rubbish throughout general chat too. Very annoying.

Im playing wildstar weeks and have only seen ESO mentioned once or twice, then again i dont watch chat too often.
Got to play another hour today and i must say im doing more running about to talk this this guy then that guy than fighting mobs, very slow altogether.

I think I've made up my mind to buy this over Wildstar. Granted I only played Wildstar once but ESO is more "My thing"
Might stop playing now for the day. I imagine there will be a character wipe after beta. Don't wanna spoil too much of the game just to have everything deleted at the end :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 613 ✭✭✭Darius.Tr

So far I prefer this over wildstar as well, wildstar just looks too cartoonish and futuristic for my liking. Also I seem to be able to run ESO on almost full graphics while wildstar lags on even the lowest settings.
Though I might need another weekend of beta on both games to fully make up my mind, as I was only able to play this for 2-3 hours both games combined.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,715 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

Only got to play 3.5 hours, few thoughts.

The world is beautiful, some really brilliantly designed areas and great gfx to enjoy all the more, here i can really see myself getting immersed.
Music is great and suits the theme perfectly.
Quests disappointingly just seemed to bring me allover the place, felt like a running simulator at times lol,im only lvl 7 so cant comment on later levels maybe it changes?
Combat for me is the real issue, melee combat just didnt feel good enough for me,i just played the tanky class dragon knight i think it is to lvl 5 and it just felt poor, compared to Wildstars melee combat its chalk and cheese with wildstar winning hands down.
The PTR servers are using a later build that has collision detection which should help the issue so fingers crossed it improves as the game develops.
Ranged combat however is a lot better, i played sorcerer and it was pretty good with some nice spell effects.
The pace of leveling is very slow bordering on grindy probably down to all the running around with not much combat.

Overall i enjoyed this beta more than the previous two,if the combat improves and becomes more regular ill be very happy.
Will i buy this or Wildstar?
I hoped this weekend would tell me more but its made it a tougher decision.
I prefer the theme and the world of ESO to that of Wildstar ,im sure the Lore is great but i dont play MMO`s for lore.
Wildstar is hugely tempting, the combat is possibly the best ive played in an MMO,it will ship with a tonne of endgame pve which is right up my street.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,739 ✭✭✭BigEejit

I enjoyed quite a lot of it, combat was good but not great, collision detection would make a big difference. Having so many broken quests and broken group mechanics (each person in the group entering a dungeon on his own) did annoy me, but I can see that its going the right direction. I might have a look at their next beta/stress test to see how it goes.

Stress test is over now mate. There'll be another in a week or two I imagine and for this one at least, all you needed to do was create an account and they were handing out keys with them.

@Dcully I know what you mean by the melee. My first character 3 betas ago was a tank. Can't remember which class. I got him to level 10 but I did not really enjoy the combat. I really hope they improve the melee as I wanted to play a tank type.
Now I'm bow shooting roguey type and it's great fun. Still not tried any caster class.
One thing I did get to experience this weekend (although only for a short time) was the PVP. It was amazing until lag took over. I guess it didn't help being connected to NA but from what I saw, if there is no lag it will be seriously excellent. The whole idea of it was just class. Takes serious coordination in order to take out an enemy keep while trying to save your own. And the pvp map is just HUGE. I mean seriously huge. Loved it and can't wait for another EU test to do more, hopefully without the lag this time.

Apparently the client is patching which would indicate a beta this weekend but with it being Thursday and no official announcement of it (they usually come on Tuesday), I doubt it.

With such a short time until the game is released, I wouldn't be surprised if they skip this week (maybe even next too), wipe and do an open beta.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,715 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

I just got a survey email and they mentioned further beta events.

There'll definitely be an open beta before launch, and since that's in less than a month, it'll have to be pretty soon.

And I clicked the link to do the survey. Except it was literally the longest survey I have ever come across. After clicking radio buttons for ages and still only 1/3 of the way down the page I closed the browser.

Is there any point in having a wipe and open beta a couple of weeks before launch? They should be getting people to test endgame stuff, there are loads of people testing low level stuff.

It's just the usual standard process. Wipe closed beta. Have open beta and maybe carry over characters to release. With the deadline for release in less than a month, it would make sense (to me at least) if they do it this way.

    Not saying they will :P

Increase xp in this beta as i refuse to lvl for 6 hours and only get to L8..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,905 ✭✭✭Noxin

And the winrar is ESO by a landslide.
My battle between ESO and Wildstar is over. I had beta for Wildstar as a final test this weekend. Played Friday evening and was bored by 10pm. Logged off and didn't bother to log back on again.
It has since been uninstalled so I'm off to pre-order ESO for months end.

I'd much prefer slow leveling, I dislike games where you can hit lvl20 in a single day.
For one, it tends to make a mockery of the crafting system. If the weapons/armor that you can craft are actually useful then its much less of a grind having to go and gather materials as there is a tangible objective such as a weapon that will allow you get past a difficult quest or armor that will keep you alive for a boss fight. Not just that you have to lash off another 50 leather armbands so that in a few weeks you can finally make daedric armor.

Also, slower leveling makes the low level boss fights more rewarding. You have to put effort into trying to figure out a system of beating them instead of just coming back in an hour when you are 4-5 levels higher and can walk through them.

With the autoleveled PVP system thats in place, hopefully it won't be bothersome race to endgame before you can 'really start playing' and the PVE leveling process will be rewarding in itself.

So there's one more beta weekend, and it says that it's the last time to test the game. So I guess that means no open beta?

More #ESO beta invites have been sent. This is our final scale test, so join us this weekend! http://elderscrollsonline.com/en/news/post/2014/03/11/new-beta-invites--march-11th

Final stress test this weekend. I guess there MIGHT be an open beta from next weekend under normal load levels with separate US / EU megaservers.
That or yes, they will just wipe and not bother with an open beta at all.

    ==edit==
Welcome back to the ESO beta! You are invited to participate in our upcoming test of the newest version of the game! This is our final large-scale beta event before Early Access. Join us from Friday, March 14th at 5PM GMT until Monday, March 17th at 3:59AM GMT.

so I guess no open beta.
