Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The Leaving Cert again??? Businesses closing down all over the country and this is the best liveline can do.

They are covering up the the truth again. Throwing the audience a bit of obfuscation to distract from the real story.

Leaving Cert students - You just have to sit it again next year in the worst case scenario, and you probably would have had to sit it twice anyway go the points you needed.

Duffy is being absolutely ridiculous here. So he wants the broke state to pay the medical fees of all these people as well. Pay for all these thousands of kids to do medicine and then allow them all to f**k off to another country with Ireland stuck for the cost of their education.

Why not use the points from the inter cert

That's not what he's saying though. He's saying they should be allowed into whatever course they want.

If you do a general course you're just extending the ourse by a year. Take Med and Accountancy - there's no general course you can do that will cover the syllabus for both in Year 1.

As usual, this is ill thought out reflex horsemanure from Mr. Duffy.

Some of what he says makes sense, and I would agree that those who want to do medicine should be allowed to at least try first year. They might then go in a completely different direction, stick with it, or try another science course etc.

That is what Joe is saying. Of course you could have a general entry course for Med or Accountancy or whatever else. Far too many 2nd level students now apply for courses they have little idea about.

Whatever you think about Duffy, remember he's a former student union leader and knows this stuff..

As someone who lectures part-time in a University to say you're over-simplifying would be generous. You have to be trolling.

hahahaha , imagine telling some of the students they can't go to Trinners , as Carlow IT has a similar course closer

Duffy's not a very good Ad for 3rd level - perhaps if he had spent more time with his bukes and less time student rabble rousing he wouldn't be such a thick.

The parents of all the straight A students want the exam now.

Joe: education is such a gift!

But joe was off sick that day.

3rd level stats are the biggest scam going.

Romania has a medical foundation course, of four years I think. Then you can do a couple of years postgrad you become a doctor, nurse, physio, scientist etc. Our idiotic Medical Council thought it was a full medical degree and employed one or two non-qualified Romanian “doctors” on the basis of it. It’s a course I’d love to do as I find the stuff very easy to learn & understand, but I’d hate to be an actual doctor in an a&e!

As someone who lectures part-time in a University to say you're over-simplifying would be generous. You have to be trolling.

Maybe you're part of the system then Butters? What Duffy is principally suggesting is that anyone who has applied for 3rd level gets a place and then the wheat is sorted from the chaff after the 1st year. He's then muddied the waters by suggesting they get their first 'choice' on their CAO application which is clearly daft.

But the above is broadly how I understand the USA college system works. Students enter certain faculties, study a general core course inc standard modules in math and English etc., with a few other chosen modules and only after they've settled into the system do they progress onto their chosen undergrad programmes proper.
