Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    According to Shannonside News:

Yesterday evening at a special sitting of Longford District Court..... four of the eleven applied for bail and were refused, with others consenting to remain in custody on the back of that decision.

    No names mentioned.
Wonder were RTE there - doubt it. A strange time for a special sitting, only 2 days after Christmas. It's well over a week since they were arrested. Must have been something else keeping the national broadcaster busy.
Still locked up so at least there's that.
Charged with violent disorder; I presume ethnic minorities get a discount on whatever tariff is levied on that particular charge.

Insert first name before Connors, Joyce or McInerney and you should have at least one of them.

Lots of place in Ireland for everybody, no one should have special ethnic status granted though, that's racist in itself.
And all law breakers should face the same consequences, no allowance for their ethnic status or not.

Agreed - you can't have this nonsense AND aspire to be a republic.

We need to decide. I myself want a republic with equal rights and responsibilities for all.

all i managed to see what 3 ejits talking outside a house to another rival ejit. one of them of course wearing shorts in winter, what is the story with them always wearing shorts? do they think they are in jamacia or something?

Shorts in winter isn’t just a traveller thing.

All sorts are doing it and around here they mainly hang out in Dunnes.

    It is quite grotesque.

What is it with the machetes these days?

What is wrong with a kitchen knife or a length of wavin pipe? Or with just something lying around near by?

This is what is wrong with society - our thugs are spoiled.

I happened to be passing by the courthouse when 2 of them were coming out..wonder what happened, when there was a large garda presence. Then to see the crowd that gathered on the opposite side, cheering them on and screaming like they were some celebrity...
Makes you ashamed to be living in that town....

I saw 2 young traveller kids no more than 10 or 11 robbing drink in a Tesco one night. I reported them to the staff and they got them before they left the shop. Met the security guard a few days later and he told me they had about 900 quid worth of booze!! The father was outside the front door dressed resplendently in his finest tracksuit.
Met the security man a few weeks later and he told me they returned and got away with over a grands worth of booze!!
What hope do you have when your parents are actively coaching you to steal?

There are a few bad elements in it for sure, but mostly there are a lot of decent hard working people in it.
It's just got to the stage though with drugs and night fights and traveller feuds that the decent element rarely go out in the town.
There does seem to be a serious lack of visible policing on the streets, maybe that's just me, but it's not common to see gardai on foot patrol around the town. Maybe that's due to numbers and I know they can't be everywhere.
But lately there have been stabbings and a lot of street violence in the town

I was born and bred in Longford and I assure you that the traveller feuds are certainly not a new phenomenon - the only thing different is the families involved. My grandparents are buried in Ballymacormack near the traveller plots and I can tell you that cemetery Sunday is no picnic!

Drugs, violence, stabbings were going on in the 90s and probably before that too.

It's a shame that all the positive things happening around the town and county - the canal walkway, Center Parcs etc, is being forgotten about because of this

I'm also from Longford. Back years ago the feuding was kept to a few estates. Not it's anywhere they meet. Churches, Lidl car park, outside the dole office, Mullingar hospital.

The whole culture is rotten. The macho crap, the way they treat women. Its the politicians fault for been afraid to call them out.

They should be treated the exact same way as the gangsters in Limerick.

99% of men wearing shorts in winter are travellers.

I remember when a load of houses were built off St Michael's Road specifically for travellers (probably during the 90s) and they were absolutely trashed before anyone ever moved into them.
As you rightly say, these incidents used to be confined to estates or halting sites but now they dont care. The only time you'd ever see a Garda presence is for funerals or sometimes weddings.

The gas thing is that some of the travellers in Longford are the nicest people you'd meet but as with any ethnicity/minority/majority all it takes a few bad eggs to ruin it for everyone...

    Disgusting!!!!!

He'll be up in court next yr/ yr1/2 for something else and NO jail. Judges taking the public for right mugs..

Meanwhile several poor fools up for something Mickey Mouse who have hardly ever seen the inside of a courthouse be read the riot act and told they're VERY lucky NOT to be going to JAIL; AND get a proper fine to boot in the intervening period- Not some f'd up e105 or some sh1t that tinkers with multiple convictions - usually females (seriously doubt they ever pay it either) get.

    effing SICKENING :(

And what's with these e105 fines that I sometimes see in local gazettes/rags? Seems like a bloody strange amount..

It's a demonstration of just how out of touch our judiciary are. 105 euro is (kind of) 100 guineas.

    Thanks, never thought of that.

Maybe 20 years ago yeah with the Guineas thing though.. Punt's no longer the
    currency.

Just rubbing our noses in it. The scum and the rich can do what they like (pretty much) in this Country.

And poor saps obliged to pay 3 or 400 euro to the "poor box" to avoid a conviction for something trivial like a bit of weed. Meanwhile junkie thievin'
scum are smoking it freely outside the kahrthouse in the shmoke on the regla "nd the gayrds don't moind cos it keeps us relaxd loike"

I mentioned this one before. I used to be a barman, went into work to start my shift at seven and some clown had served two traveler women. I overheard a convo between them:

A: Come out tonight it'll be great craic
B: No no he's at home with the bab-y
A: Ahh come on out for the night
B: No no, I'll be bet
A: Sure take the baitin' tomorrow

Take the baitin', solid advice there.

You're right, the criminal gangs in the states are much more hardened. Travellers would be considered soft and wouldn't be able to stand up to these gangs.

Travellers have a great life all the same , taking over main roads n Dublin for their sulky races . It helps when none of them have to worry about going to work etc and the PC brigade give them the thumbs up to do as they please. Not sure what the ICPSA are shocked about ,travellers are it all over the country for years without a care in the world !

They do it because they know they can get away with it. For all the hard man shouting they can get their tails between their legs fairly quickly when they know they are up against it.

About 15 years ago they started showing up in the Cologne-Dusseldorf area during the summer claiming it was some form of traditional pilgrimage for themselves. They were viewed with curiosity, but welcomed. Until they started fighting, smashing up stuff, robbing shops and refusing to pay the bills.

Then they showed up illegally camping, council tried to move them and were told to fcuk off, police asked them to move on and were told the same. Police then returned with an order to leave, this was ignored, a fight started and the police effectively beat them off the property, confiscated a load of cars, fined them and sold the cars when nobody paid the fine.

They still show up every year, but these days this is their reaction when the German cops show up on Day 2..... they all leave without so much as raising their voices.

    Your half right.

The gardai have them up in the courts. You only have to read about the multiple previous convictions they have when they are up in court.

Unfortunately the judges will fall for the usual sob story as suspend their sentence.

Would love to see what the sentence would be if a fellow judge was the victim.
