Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Marijuana Stocks, legalities for Irish Investors?

I tried to invest in High Tide yesterday but it wasn't appearing available in Davy's portal. So I raised a customer service request with them to get it added. When I went in today, the stock was available but when I went to purchase, it have me a message saying to call Davy. So I rang them and they completed the trade for me.

I then get an email from Davy replying to my original query to add the stock to the portal saying they don't allow the trade of marijuana based securities.

Anyone had similar experience with them?

Never used them but sometimes with small players like High Tide it's high risk with very little financials to go on, you might be better off.

I just had a check for Canopy and Aphria and they have them in the search bar for Davy Select (I didn't log in though).

    Saw the below on twitter.

For anyone watching the $TLRY stock this past week don’t forget “each Aphria ( $APHA ) share will receive 0.8381 shares of Tilray.” At the current price of $59.95 $APHA shares will be worth $50.244 $APHA is currently worth $26.00

    I sense a Reddit attack is imminent.:pac:

That's the thing though. They purchased the stock for me over the phone and I can see it in my portfolio. However, it looks like I can't trade it online.

They're on Trading 212 if that's any good to you... doing really good by all accounts, but then again they all are.

If you can see it in your portfolio did you get it at the price when you purchased it over the phone?

Maybe it just takes a while. Do you want to sell your position?

No, no intention of selling at this point. I'm expecting the price to go up over the next few years. I guess my concern is that Davy have bought the stock for me and are now effectively saying they shouldn't have. When I do want to sell in the future, will I have any problems?

Dunno that's probably best for them to answer in an email.
You could ask them if they will treat Jazz, Aphria Canopy/ Constellation in the same manner!

Ah don’t mention Jazz to me. Bought the dip in March and sold it for a decent profit at 120 and watched it go up another 30+% after that. Someone said on here that a monkey throwing darts would make money on the market...I wish I could find that monkey to make my decisions for me.

Thanks for the answers on this. Much appreciated.

You think that's bad, I bought GameStop for 11 and sold for 15.... thinking I was Warren bleedin Buffet with me couple of euro profit lol.

Ok to me it looks like it's exit time.

Maybe keep Aphria and Medipharm if you got in at a good time in January.

I just about reached my break even point 6.80 in Organigram but still got out as they are also dropping fast. I'll be back in around the 3-4 mark if it comes up again. It would appear the interest is there in them.

I'm taking my lead off the Tilray & Canopy massive sudden drops. Sundial was another major pump and dump too so I expect that to drop like a stone.
Who knows though, it could be a shakedown , I've seen that before too in Canada.

US legalisation is coming one way or another so, expect another rally based on good news or mergers.

I got out of Aurora with a few hundred euro profit yesterday evening. Still in with Akerna though! May pick up some Organigram today if it keeps dropping...

Yeah I just had to dump all my MJ stocks just now. Took a look at WSB and the top post was telling everyone to dump them so inevitably the price started tanking. Just glad I was around to spot it as I made a lot more than I would have by relying on my stop loss.

Ya you've peeked my interest with Akerna, I got out with a profit but will also come back to it.

Don't forget ... Organigram are a relatively small operation so I expect it to go down a bit yet to bring it to a realistic market value based on revenues.

I'm holding off on Organigram for a little bit longer but maybe as a long-long play now is a good a time as any to get in!

Yesterday was the first time I heard of OrganiGram. actually. I was reading something which was saying long term its a lot better investment that’s Sundial. I’m sure Akerna will bounce back so I’m not too worried about it. My BEP with it is 5.15.

Yesterday Tilray analysis here, the chart guys are always good for the sector.

Organigram are still holding strong despite the pullback in the others, it might be just fomo Friday with people wanting in.
I'd like to get back in around CA$4 but looking difficult.

Maybe they all have a bit more to fall next week.

I’m surprised at how well it’s holding up today! I thought I bought them at a dip yesterday at 4.70... it tanked and I somehow managed to sell them then yesterday evening at 4.75!! Not ruling out going in again if it goes below 4.

Has any ones Cannabis stocks been restricted on certain platforms in Ireland.

Some Platforms No longer allow you to buy, but you can sell what you have.

Someone mentioned it in another thread. Think it was Davy.

They've no problem listing Jazz pharma or Constellation Brands (Coors) which have a controlling interest now!

I use Degiro which isn't Irish.

Another little bit of a climb going on. Those lower buy-back-in points are getting more elusive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,622 ✭✭✭Treppen

    Worth a watch.

What I'm getting from it is:
A lot more volatility and trading potential in the US space. There's a lag effect where people pile in to smaller caps after the big ones run up. Get into them early when the big ones bull. Florida are set to decriminalise next , watch truelieve as they have strong position in that market. Verano Holdings are ones to watch. I know nothing about them as they're a new listing in Canada!

This guy day trades on a couple of dollars so they are all short term positions, no long holding for him.

Seems to be a bit of a slide so I'll hold off.

Next interest is Trulieve TCNNF on US OTC. Looking promising if Florida legalises. But it's not cheap especially for an otc.

    It's on Trading 212

If I had any cash on hand lol!

If I could, I'd go more into US with either Curaleaf or Trulieve.

Oh tell me about it! I was up over €1100 on Akerna at one point and of course I got greedy and didn’t sell it then! It will recover at some point though. You got out with profits with that one? At least I made around €400 on Aurora.

I got in and out of Akerna and made a nice few quid (that's like 50euro for me these days).

I was thinking of going again but decided togo a different route and check out Glassdoor to see employee reviews! Seems like they've too much work to handle properly.
Do you think they'll stay the course?

Crap acquisition. Basically a bunch of pennies thrown together - they were supposed to be getting Leafly so it's plummeting below NAV already. I'd take GRAMF as a previous SPAC over this any day of the week.

Just read an Interview "whoever-wins-california-wins.." there with Michael Auerbach .

SPACs weren't really on my radar,
what platform are you getting GRAMF pioneerpro ? Is there another name for the ticker?

There was a brief nod to Verano in that Seeking Alpha article as well, which also had been tipped by The Chart Guys a while ago.

BTW I mentioned Organigram as a good buy at US$3.50 a while ago, so I got in and out at $4.50 today. I'm just not sure it's big enough or profitable enough yet, but if it falls to 3.50 again I'd get back in!

Would have to be IBKR as DeGiro and the rest don't do OTCMKTs. When GNRS ticker changes it'll be the same story as it'll go OTCMKT.

My major cannabis hold would be High Tide that said, with a little in Medmen and 48North, but very much High Tide ftw.

High Tide looking to do a reverse split to list on Nasdaq. Do you think they'll last the course?

I don't actually think that this industry is suited to people looking for short term gains. In fact, it's probably more likely to drive you crazy, if that's what you are looking for.

It's still a medium to long term play, IMHO. Sure, legislation has begun to change in parts of the USA etc, but we're still a long way away from seeing doctors consider it for general pain relief etc. That, coupled with more widely accepted recreational use, is where we'll see significant return on investment come from.

For what is worth, and I've mentioned this before, I thnk you are better off putting a small investment into this industry and then leave it for five years, or more. I've opted for a cople of ETFs, which give me the benefit of diversification across a number of companies, professional management, and relatively low fees - while leaving me free to put my time into other things.

    Thanks,

    G.

I'm holding / selling in what looks like 3 month cycles.
I think the whole medical space now is only a vague excuse, it's more about legalising it for recreation "because other states have done it... Tax dollars... Reducing criminalising etc etc"

Even if it were found to have relatively zero impact on health, Pandora's box is now open with no turning back.

I'm back in on InmMed, Organigram, High Tide, GRAMF, Verano , Aphria (Canada + US) ... Nearly breaking even but suspect another upswing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,622 ✭✭✭Treppen

So... Anyone holding Aphria, it's happened!

conversion was 0.8381 of Tilray at Friday 30th closing price.
From my crappy phone it looks like it closed at $18ish so converts to US$15.40 per share which is what Aphria closed at. I think the prices were pretty close to the conversion rate anyway so like-for-like. Well executed merger by all accounts.

My first experience of arbitrage (or lack thereof in this case).

Hasn't changed over on Degiro yet.

So a foothold in Canada and US ! Could it be a Canopy killer?

Edit: got my facts a bit crooked, the merger has only been greenlighted by shareholders, so I don't think Aphria will change over just yet.

Amazing how this topic has gone so quiet - clearly, the likes of EVs became the new sexy topic, so we all moved on.

I'm still looking at my two ETFs in this space, wondering what the future holds.... While the small regular distributions have been okay, capital performance hasn't been good in the last couple of years.

Horizons Marijuana Units Class A (cad)

Etf Managers Trust Etfmg Alternative Harvest

Anyone know how long it takes to grow and cultivate a load of plants, out of interest?

    Thanks,

    G.

I've afew quid in grow generation, and what a depressing chart, ath of 51 in August, and crashed back to 15 now, it makes crypto look stable lol. I was close enough to ditching it yday to harvest the capital losses but who knows when this sector might rocket of again overnight.

  • Registered Users Posts: 237 ✭✭Layne

I feel your pain. The whole sector is really struggling at the moment.

A lot of the Canadian stocks, including Tilray and Cronos, were effected by the Barclays ratings and price targets initiated a few weeks back. It really put the brakes on what was slow but steady upward traction on stock price at the time. It is a sector that is definitely out of favour for some reason even as legalisation is getting closer in Germany and Italy. Federal legalisation in the US is seen as the gamechanger but I won't be holding my breath that it will happen anytime soon. Will be bag holding for a few years at this rate.

Could be tempted to go back into Canopy again as a year to 2 year buy. Huge drop from their highs earlier in the year
