Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

For that answer I'll hand you over to the rpg nuts around here.... they'll be along in a minute....

I am sure not being able to understand the game would cause problems with my ability to play the game. I have literally no understanding of Japanese outside of what Hattori Hanzo said in the Kill Bill movies.

I have "Arigato" and "Velly Good!"

Hopefully my first 2 import games will be able to help with that, but for games that are text heavy, the language barrier is something I can't break down (at this point at least).

Dragon's Crown and Okami Den came this morning, I was waiting ages because it's PlayAsia (nothing unusual there) now to play the waiting game again with the other stuff I bought.

My son is playing Okami right now and loving it.
I asked him will be he try Okamiden next but he says he doesn't know because you're only a pup in it, rather than the wolf as in the first one.
He's playing it on the Wii as well.
Ah, my boy, he has excellent taste, no idea where he gets it from!

As a scientific experiment, you should give him a blast of Streets of Rage 2 to evaluate if poor taste is a genetic trait or an inherited one :D

    Didn't know Okami Den existed.

That cover art is basically Okami given the most kawaii make over ever, that little girl riding him is totally you!

Definitely not, but going back to a regular 3DS after having an XL the screen will look tiny.

It's gotta be fair priced. Could always use a second XL for imports...

Finally got around to getting a cheap pc case from Amazon to put my mame rig into. Most other parts came via Andrew.

Have Hyperspin already running but trying to make the switch from an arcadevga and mame to crt_emudrivers and groovymame which is proving a bit more troublesome.

    IMAG0343_zpswd0tkzft.jpg

What's in the cheap box that has no cable management?

    Core i5, 6gb ram, Radeon 4890, 1tb hdd.
I had to add a scythe quiet cpu cooler as the stock one was crazy noisy dealing with all emulation processing!

So I spoke about these on another thread.

Picked up ask of this from the rage. All I ended up actually posting for was Street Fighter II and even then I got a fiver off.

The last behind the counter remembered that I was a Dreamcast collector and kept loads of white label games for me and gave them to me for nothing!

My opinion of the rage is slowly changing because of that one dude...

Oh forgive there state of the floor I need to mop :-P

I got Hotel Dusk today, bargain for 6.99 in GS.
It'll share the shelf with Cape West.
Good game too, cheap as chips, seems to be a good time to be buying DS games.

Did another haul today. White Knight Chronicles PS3, Mirrors Edge PS3 and Lost Planet 360 for less than E20. Had to do some manual robbing but ended up with everything being complete.

What is everyones opinion on consolidating the best of multiple copies within the same store? i.e taking the best box without manual and putting the manual from a copy of the same game in a **** box so you get both?

I appear to live near a bad GameStop for DS games. It's all either typical shovelware or overpriced 1st party titles.

Sounds like a plan, I would always check the game before leaving the shop anyway, to make sure the game is ok, make sure the manual is included.

    Aquanauts Holiday, very good.
The PS was as commercial a console as ever there was but it was such a fertile ground for mental games, I'm still hoping to find Harmful Park at non harmful prices!

The Wii's shaping up to be along the same lines (though, admittedly, smaller), after the tidal waves of shovelware slowly recede to give way to a number of titles that immediately beg the question '....and they knew which platform they were developing for, right?'.

Back in the day, my cousin bought a Super Famicom game called Rushing Beat - we played the hell out of it 2 player. It's a bit of a Final Fight clone but we thought it was great. Made by Jaleco.

Only recently did I discover via Hardcoregaming101 that there were two sequels

Just picked up the second game from Hit Japan. Looked into getting the PAL vesrions but they've some absolutely awful box art/localizations.

Also picked this up, been meaning to buy it ever since Retr0 made me aware of it's existence :pac:

Super Famicom is the way to go for the artwork, but Retro recommending Sailor Moon, I never would have guessed.

    Such an awesome photo.
Future generations of A&R forum users will be seeing it long after we have gone off into that big Arcade in the sky, where all the games are on freeplay, you know, where all the little calculators go....

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,860 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

But... Sailor Moon is genuinely great :( It's hilarious.

That one there is the first Sailor Moon game. There's another one called Sailor Moon R which is a good bit better.

I played a lot of this one

but I still dunno what it's officially called, the last time I looked for it I ended up with the fighting game. The last ones I got for Retr0 were RPG kinda ones you needed text for afaik.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,860 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon R are the steets of rage type games.

Sailor Moon S and Sailor Moon Super S are the Street Fighter ones.

There's also Sailor Moon: Another Story which is a RPG and bizarrely got a PAL release in French. It's supposed to be pretty good and there's a fan translation

Those are the SNES games. There's a 3DO game and a Saturn PS1 game, well maybe two, but they don't look very good.

There's also a streets of Rage type arcade Sailor Moon game which is decent enough and one of the streets of rage type games came out on the mega drive.

Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon R on the SNES aren't the best games but they are good fun in two player and very cheap. Sailor Moon R is a big improvement on the first game. I wasn't impressed with Sailor Mars in the first game. She's the worst character since her throw is dreadful for crowd control. How could they do that to Rei, she's my favourite!!!

The gameboy games are a bit weird. Not sure what is going on in them and the first puzzle you get to is a sliding picture puzzle, bleurgh!

That's weird, I was only looking into getting that over the weekend. Didn't realize the PAL UK release was so super limited.

Are the EU copies multi lingual?

How do you know by the cart if it's in English Retr0?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,860 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

There was quite a few multi lingual games, Nintendo have it's EU HQ in Germany so a lot of RPGs got German versions like Terranigma.

You can tell the language from the two codes under the seal of quality. Usually German ones have made in Japan there however just do a bit of research to see what the right code is. Different languages have different codes there. A good tell is very cheap versions of the game from German sellers!

The PAL and NTSC version of Harvest Moon is very limited. It did really well for Natsume but has a big fanbase and not many copies of it to go around. It was an extremely late release on the SNES, 1997 in US and 1998 in Europe.

German games also seem to have 'PAL Version' written on them under the seal of quality. I remember that was a good way to tell the difference between an English and a German Terranigma.

Been a while since I posted, so here's what I've been collecting lately:

    All CIB.

    Robocop vs Terminator (MD)
    Terminator (MD)
Super Street fighter II Turbo Revival (GBA)
    Altered Beast (MD)
    Street Fighter Alpha 3 (GBA)
System Rush (N-Gage) <-- I only need 3 more N-Gage titles to complete the collection, however these 3 games cost a bomb.
    Shadow Warriors [Ninja Gaiden] (NES)
    Blues Brothers (C64)
    Batman (C64)
