they had one on the day of it too. Match of the Day posted both to their social media!
Providing nothing to play for against bohs wonder could kevin do the last 5mins?... if not... second testimonial?

Good result tonight, awful record against pats, barring a wexford miracle that should see us safe being 9pts ahead with 4 games left.
Great games all round, would (just) give Coll MOM on his 200th game. Houstons goal was a cracker, top scorer now for us.

Good result tonight. If the game hadn't stalled for Cowan's injury I think harps would have easily won it. They went to sleep and let a soft goal in. It took them along time to get back into the game but played there hearts out at the end. Curran put in a lot of work and deserved a goal

Unconfirmed but saying Cowan may have done his cruciate ligament and broken his fibula... very nasty indeed if it is the case. Probably been the most consistent player all season!
Ollie has had his contract extended for next year also. Happy with that now the bad run has been turned around. He should have learned a lot from this year.

Just wondering what's the scéal with the new stadium? Haven't heard any updates on it for a while.

There hasn't been anything happening for the last couple of years.

Last game of the season tonight at home to bohs. Kev McHugh's last time as a member of the harps squad so it's send off time! Kick off is 7.45 not 8!

Some decent, some crap ball last night in Finn Park. Bit of a friendly really. Although nice to sign off with a win in front of a good crowd. Curran took his goal well and we finish 9pts clear of the relegation spots after a bit of worrying! Himself and Houston finish joint top scorers for us with 7 each.

Barry Molloy played well as he signed off senior football. He was well overshadowed by the half time show as there was a club & fans presentation to McHugh 186 goals in 438 games for ourselves (plus whatever he got in his stints at Omagh, Derry & Linfield). 174 LOI goals has him 5th on the all time list. I think this year was a bit of a step too far for him and couldnt get the 4 more he needed to join Turlough O'Connor in 4th. Although he tended to be deployed in a deep role when he was on anyway.

Sean Houston took 54 crew and Dublin Supporters Club POTY, Ethan Boyle took YPOTY.

Nice to have premier football to look forward to again next year! Hopefully wexford survive too. Bit of work to the squad and a Keith Cowan shaped hole in defence to fill due to his horror injury v pats but im sure Ollie has already got to work!

Squad slowly building for next year, apparently 4 or 5 full time slots up for grabs, 2 taken already. Would want to see Dee, McMonagle, Houston, Funston re-signed in particular. Keating with improved attitude, Maileys x2 (Altho doubt Josh can commit with UK college), Hanlon, Scully would be useful too. McNamee is gone unfortunately, Curran most likely too while he took his chances didn’t add too much elsewhere, Brush to Ballinamallard supposedly although Doherty seems highly rated.
Squad so far... With a few presumed u19s(*) who will most likely be senior next year:
    Ciaran Gallagher,
Harry Doherty, (Cockhill, ex Charlton & Brighton)

    Ciaran Coll,
    Ryan McConnell,
    Ethan Boyle, (full time)

    Gareth Harkin,
    Gareth Doherty,*
    Daire O'Baoill,*

    Danny Morrissey, (Cork)(full time)
    BJ Banda,*
    Declan Sharkey*

    Link-New jersey announced too.
.. Not sure on it personally... Three year deal with Joma. Altho i hear the fluorescent yellow strip may return! What do ye think?

Saw the jersey earlier. It looks.......weird.

No too sure on the sash jersey yet. The Harps will have to march out onto the pitch from now on might intimidate the opposition.

Good to see a change from legea, was very hard to get stock for the supporters shop from them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,224 ✭✭✭overshoot

I had to take out last years away (which i loved) to remind myself it didnt have a proper sash

In fairness to Legea, they had some stock, Macron never had anything to the point pretty much no one could buy the jersey. Quality was far higher than Azzurris before that too. Then again bought them in the first year and may have been making more of an effort then, so may have been much worse this year.

Harps video ahead of the new campaign.

A follow up video (again supplied on a voluntary basis) as Harps move into the second half of the campaign. Currently sitting 8th, but bottom 6 are all close together.

And so we meet again in a playoff...3 years since I posted in this thread (I couldn't find a more recent Finn Harps one, maybe I missed it).

Anyway, Limerick fans not holding out much hope for this playoff. We are a really poor team in just awful form. I will be travelling to Ballybofey, but expecting a defeat, and adefeat across both legs, to be honest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,224 ✭✭✭overshoot

yea dont post in the donegal forum anymore and threads died a death

Limerick still have some decent players and no one gave us a hope in 2015 so not buying the positivity for us at all!
We were rusty in the first leg v drog and thanks to the shambolic organisation of the first division / playoff series in general have 10days between that game and you... and we really need to be taking a lead down.

On the plus side... after the Drogs game its fair to say Paddy McCourt isnt retiring without putting on a display

In 2015 we probably had a better squad, and were definitely in better form, with a lot more confidence.

We have two good wingers, and the midfield in general is decent, but we just can't score goals.

I know nothing about Harps this season, so can't really compare, but you are in good form at least, and used to winning.

Anyway, no need to compete in the 'we are more crap than you' stakes.

Looking forward to it, kind of!

5 years with Ollie! You could put out the u15s and he'd talk us down!

We probably have a better squad than in 2015 although Banda is with Letterkenny Rovers now you'll be glad to hear!
I'd a hotel booked for Limerick before getting home from the Drogs game :D

Another bleak trip to Ballybofey for Limerick. Still, all to play for in the second leg.

I thought we were the better team for the first 30 minutes, but once we went behind, Harps compressed their shape a bit, and we had no idea how to break you down. We had loads of possesion, but always with your team between us and goal.

I can imagine some frustration from Harps fans that you weren't a bit more attacking in the second half, given how 'there for the taking' Limerick have been all season.

But I think Horgan is just a pretty conservative manager, and from his perspective, he had the lead, and he was going to protect it. Harps gave away a lot of territory and possession but defended their box pretty comfortably for the most part. I'd say he is fairly pleased with it, and will adopt a fairly similar set up on Friday.

From a Limerick perspective, it's just hard to see where we will score from. We are just so toothless up front.

Congrats Harps, thoroughly deserved. We were really poor and you managed the game well, limited our already very limited attack, and took your chances when they came (apart from one incredible miss from about 2 yards out).

Great number of fans down too, and in fine voice.

Enjoy the premier division...don't think we will be back there for a while.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,224 ✭✭✭overshoot

Cheers osaursan. Trying to get myself back together for the trip up the road. Have to say all the limerick fans I ran into over the night we sound as you could get. Hopefully ye can regroup as things don't sound good there at all.

On the match, shocked how comfortable we were... Very strange for harps to do easy. I don't know did we step it up that much from Monday or did limerick regress. The players looked very focused in mcgettigans before the game though.

Only sad this about the night is Paddy's quiet exit after 15. Sad to see such a player slip away like that. Fantastic watching him the last 2 years

Yeah bad first game to go to!! They were dreadful last night, could have been a lot worse if it wasn’t for Gallagher.

There's a very active supporters club in Dublin, https://www.facebook.com/fhscdublin/
Get in touch with them and maybe you can join up with them. Not sure if they have a regular pub.

Send me a pm and it could have you added to the what's app group. Generally a few around for a pre/post match pint and a few table quizzes etc over the year. Think the next one is the start of May

Plus we aren't prolific, so don't hammer anybody.

I'm sure it'll be a very tight game as usual.

Finally there has been a bit of movement in the new stadium. The large crane thats been there since 2008 moved on Sunday night and fell on top of the partially constructed stand.

I think its about 8 years since it last moved

Oh, are there any Harps supporters willing to say why the works that were planned to begin back in the Spring never materialized?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 565 ✭✭✭bigwormbundoran

The Government not releasing any money for soccer capital projects on the back of the FAI shambles is the current reasoning being spouted AFAIK.

That would be understandable but from memory I thought there was money either given or pledged over a year ago hence the promo video that was arranged by Peter McLoone as linked to above.

People were blaming Shane Ross before that saying it was on his desk waiting on his sign off before that. I'm fairly apathetic to the whole thing now tbh, should've put the time and effort into improvements in Finn Park just.

Last time Harps beat Dundalk competitively, I was at the game, and I was 20 years old.

My 20s left me quite some time ago...

Was that the first division play offs?

Yes, 07/08 season. Was at the Dundalk D1 playoff game, and in the RSC in Waterford for that leg of the up/down tie - couldn't get two weekdays off work to go to the Finn Park leg

Oh to have limited commitments and short notice time off again. Basically zero chance I could get time off as quickly as that playoff sequence needed now - I was also at the last ever Kilkenny City game when we were hoping Cobh might mess up so could throw leave requests in nearly immediately. I had trouble making Finn Park of a Friday from a half day back then, its maybe an hour quicker now at least.

That was also the last season we beat Dundalk in Oriel I think, before last weekend!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,393 ✭✭✭Technique

I remember watching Dundalk in Finn Park maybe 5 years ago where they won maybe 7 or 8 nil. The difference in class between the two sides was massive. While Dundalk have regressed slightly, for Ollie to assemble a team with virtually no budget that can beat both Dundalk and Bohs in recent weeks is hugely impressive.

Here’s hoping that we can get the crowds back at matches again to give the team the support they deserve.

So that is Ollie's tenure over. Was a great servant to the club.

Indeed! I suspect that his time was up though and even if they had avoided the drop this season I wonder if his services would have been retained.

No thoughts on the new gaffer?

Seems a pretty good appointment. Coached with Liverpool'International setup, current U21 boss with a Premier League team in Forest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,316 ✭✭✭✭muffler

He certainly ticks most and possibly all the boxes. But the big question now would be about the calibre of the players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,454 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

True, but at least with such a promising manager you'd hope that players will want to be part of what's happening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,316 ✭✭✭✭muffler

Can't argue with that. I think that Ollie may have become "stale" given the length of tenure and perhaps didn't command the respect he deserved. But with the greatest of respect to Ollie you can't really compare the two when looking at their respective CV's. Rogers has seen it all and he should be a great investment by the club.
