No it doesn't. It's the worst of a bad bad lot.

I still miss Sinister Pete in the mornings :(
I liked Richie and Charlotte, but Pete was still the best I think - he played some great music and there was less inane chatter than with all the other 5-aside breakfast hosts.

I've liked most the brekkie shows on Phantom, if not all.

That said Michelle O D was *the worst* interviewer I've ever heard on any station, radio or television. I would turn off most times they had someone in studio. J&K seem to be better in this respect - Their Villagers interview and session was particularly good!

I saw on my fb feed this morning that Orlagh & Eamonn are replacing Joe & Keith 'for the next while'. As bad as Eamonn is I would rather listen to himself and Orlagh than J & K. Orlagh is a pretty good presenter IMO.

How long is a while??? And has their absence anything to do with 8radio????

From Phanton FB page:
Good Morning!! Éamon and Orlagh sitting in for Joe & Keith on Breakfast for the next little while.

Today we have Longitude tickets to give away and tickets to a gig we'll be announcing after 9am. We'll also be asking the question 'Where Are They Now?'

They're just on holidays for midterm according to the ads on the station last week.

• Registered Users Posts: 344 ✭✭room_149

Midterm??! So they'll be taking 3 months holidays in the summer then?!:P

Is Phantom being ran by the public sector now!?! :p

I've been told that they are both ex teachers..probably should have stuck at it too

Well the ad said "We'll be on holidays...well, looking after our children"...so I presume they both took it purposely to coincide with midterm! Although can't remember if it's for one week or two.

A lot of you guys are saying stuff along the lines of:

"Oh what have you done to my Phantom? You're ruining it - how dare you.."

If any of you actually listened to the station for any decent period of time - you would know that J&C actually started out on the station on a Thurs night slot back in the day (way before their time on Spin)..

From memory - the random name generator was their go-to gag at that time..

You mightn't like them - but saying Phantom is changing for the worse is just making yourself look stupid because its actually gone back to an orginal pairing - who are still a marked improvement on the Steve Conway days!!

For what its worth - I like them but then again I did like their thurs night show back then aswell.

As for Eamonn ***ing Fennell - now please do not get me started..
Did he really say that his first ever gig was Jamelia????
Jesus wept.

Just reading the comments under that announcement on the Phantom FB page there. Seems to be a lot of negative feedback towards their morning show. No wonder they hate the Internet so much!! Did anyone catch the silly Twitter spat they had with a listener a few weeks back during a show? They got a bit riled up over some comments posted about their show. Stuff along the lines it was worse than Hector's on 2FM and also how Phantom should never have finished with Richie & Michelle/ Sinister Pete in the morning. It was a bit cringy and I don't know why they responded to it- I thought only the likes of Noel Edmonds got annoyed over things like that!!

They're still dire! If they were like this back in the day, I'm glad that I missed that show. I suspect they played more music then too.

They really aren't. Steve Conway was one of the best DJs on Irish radio (and I'm delighted to see that he's doing a show on Simon Maher's new venture), these two clowns aren't fit to tie his shoelaces.

Why the **** would you replace two moronic clowns with two different moronic clowns?

Why am I asking, phantom has gone to ****.

The chuckle brothers could have been phantom stalwarts for decades, it makes no difference.

They left, came back, and instantly destroyed the place. Giving more exposure to s gaa playing reality tv ponce is just icing on the cake.

10k listeners lost in the last radio survey, and it's only going to get worse.

Fair enough. I'm glad they weren't my introduction to the station so; I'd have missed out on a lot of good music.

Bollocks, they were ****e then, they were ****e on spin and they're still ****e now.

However I wholeheartedly support your Fennel hate. Beyond clueless, he reminds me of Dougal.

It's hardly unusual  They're entitled to their holidays, plenty of parents try and take time off work during school midterms.

I actually don't think that J&C are that bad but judging by the comments here - I'm in the minority though which is fair enoughj.

What I will agree on though is that in my opinion the station is taking a big step towards catering for the Spin FM type teeny boopper market..

Fennel and and his sidekick actually interviewed Chico (from Xfactor) yesterday...?? Seriously WTF???

It stopped me listneing for the rest of the week anyway.

What do you guys see as an improevment though? Once they start changing - its hard to settle on something that works

They're up and running on 8radio.com for a month or so at least. Just music though, no DJs.

J & K are on holidays for a while and Orla D is doing a great job just banging out some great music in the morning.
Wish they'd just leave her there now!
I'll be switching once those 2 get back...

+1 Only noticed as it came up on Phantom's facebook page that she was on.

Is she on her own or with that other lad she used to present with, Dublin footballer or something?

I think she's a great presenter on her own but get's dragged down by the other chap (can't remember his name). That said, if Orla and your man took over from J&K I would give Phantom another go in the mornings.

Sensible tactic banging out the tunes.

However when she does talk she's ... a generic female Irish radio presenter ... Like, y'know goooys. Sooooooooo deadly.

She and Fennell have filled in before. They're equally awful to Joe and Keith in slightly different ways.

Thankfully it's just her by herself. This means a heck of a lot more music play than mindless chatter. I agree that the mix of her and Eamonn would wreck my head too!

Her and Fennell on together remind me of a teenage girl and boy where the boy is actually a massive tool but the girl thinks he's like so totally cool and laughs hysterically at everything he says.

i've been late for work most of the last 2 weeks as i've actually lay in bed listening to the tunes instead of jumping out of bed to turn off the 2 gob****es straight away :D
hope the 2 lads have forgotten their way back to Phantom Towers :pac:

Orlagh is a vast improvement on the insufferable buffoons J&C. I really enjoyed tuning into Phantom in the morning over the last fortnight but I will certainly tune out next week when the pair of pathetic clowns return.

Reading through this thread somebody mentioned 10,000 lost listeners. I can’t find any source online to back that up but anecdotally I know dozens of people who tuned out when J&C are on air but have been listening to Orlagh over the last two weeks.

Time for a change at Phantom?

Surely it’s cheaper to employ one presenter rather than two, not to mention that Orlagh is an infinitely superior broadcaster to them.

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,080 ✭✭✭✭Big Nasty

Along with that it's good to hear Richie back on in the afternoon instead of Claire Beck. It's been a good week for Phantom. Pity a lot of us will be tuning out again next week.

back to the ipod plugged into my car radio this week... for the morning anyway.
That, or Nova. At least they play music!

Isn't Keith the head of programming in Phantom?
If so, did he pretty much give himself the morning slot?

Yes and yes. Brought his unemployable mate with him too.

TBH, I think the problem is the format, not the presenters. The standard 'two people having mad craic' morning thing is not to my tastes. Now honestly, I'm not sure what else would work better. Maybe i just don't like the radio in the morning.

Well, Joe used to be the producer on Tom Dunne, actually quite liked his occasional interjections.

Morning show is lowest common denominator cr@p.

Joe and Keith just took their show from Spin and updated the playlist. It seems to be focused on secondary school/young college types with their crap, recycled banter and indie-pop chart music (Kodaline, King of Leon, Two Door Cinema Club).
I'd much rather the two Richies on in the morning. They have the craic, it's light-hearted but it's not nearly as grating as J&K.

No it's definitely the presenters. Their 'banter' is just inane. When they started out the music was crap; it has improved somewhat but they honestly don't seem to be into music themselves so I presume somebody else is doing it for them.

As for the 'two people having mad craic' format the only people to do this well were Mark and Lard on BBC Radio 1.

I wish the trend for these Irish knob-jocks (foley et al.) would just die out already.

Also, Phantom for the love of god get some music loving regular folk back on in the morning puh-lease
