Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is that the plan people are losing their minds about over on the Tesco mobile forum?

The new version of the plan is crap compared to what it used to be. The network is also so unreliable for the majority of their customers and I swear the rest are having issues and just not noticing. Go with one of the main players if you want a consistent service.

All very encouraging! Itching for mine to arrive. Good to read some positive comments too - the XDA thread is riddled with what seem frankly to be unreasonable complaints.
Btw, I'm just switching to a new deal - Tesco mobile are doing a €15pcm 4g deal with 15gb data, incl calls & texts. Seems good

The Lycamobile Ireland plus plan for €15 is much better IMO.
Same limitations coverage was as Tesco in that they are an MVNO, but better value.

Hadn't seen that - always assumed Lycamobile were a bit dodgy, but when you get down to details it looks like they're the same as Tesco but with 25gb pcm rather than 15 with Tesco.
I mostly have WiFi access so have just been using 48months for the past few years (€10 pcm but only 3g access). Figured I'd give Tesco a go for a change.
    Will see how it rolls

I've just ported off Tesco after over a year with them. Network is gone to the dogs. Randomly dropping voice and text while still connected to mobile data, and phone appears connected so you've no idea until someone emails you to say they can't ring you. I moved to 3 and that's been fine so it's definitely a Tesco specific issue rather than the network.

lycamobile data service is fairly pants tho.
goes down to an edge (sub 3g) connection in central dublin - no joke
they basically have the lowest priority of quality of service on the three network

but it is dirt cheap. you can get calls and data for 7.50 a month

    month 1
top up by 15 euro to get calls and data. texts not free and come out of credit

    month 2
use the 15 euro credit to buy the ireland plus bundle for calls, data, text. eu roaming

no roaming on month 1, only on the bundle

Youtube is riddled with these morons who mistake affectations for personalities.
I took one for the team.
Salient point is that while this phone won't play Netflix at High Definition because it lacks a particular DRM decoder/codec (?) which can't be added remotely as a software update, it really doesn't matter cos the screen isn't big enough for your eyeballs to notice.
Didn't justify 6 minutes of hooning about in a hat.

There's modified apks on xda that allow HD playback if you worry about said things.

A rich moron can still be a moron.

I still can't understand why anyone would be watching Netflix on their phone anyway.

I see people do it every single day on trains and buses. I do it the odd time myself on flights. It's hardly the most outlandish use of a smartphone!

Fair enough, I just would have thought 10 inch tablets are too cheap now to be watching stuff on a 5-6" screen.

What I've found in the past is that they always advertise stock when they don't actually have stock. Only issue I'd have with them though.

I dunno, I like to carry as little stuff around with me as I can get away with. That said, I'm very much in the market for a tablet!

When I'm immersed in something the screen size makes very little difference. I have no intention to ever whip out a tablet on the tube/train/bus, my 4-5 inch phone will do perfectly - and also fits in my pocket with no effort. I'd probably also be a bit self conscious about displaying my viewing habits to everyone else on the train e.g. there's a quite a bit of boobage/riding going on in Power, the 12 year old beside me doesn't need to be seeing that

I'd say the 12 year old beside you has probably been watching hardcore midget porn and beheadings for the past few years anyway :D

Folks this is 1/3 price of a flagship and almost 1/2 price of flagship killer...you can live with minor issues, inferior build quality, etc....not sure what all the hue and cry is all about...

  • Registered Users Posts: 78 ✭✭The Soup Thief

Why are eglobal so slow with delivery?

I think it's something to do with it being brought from the other side of the world for a pittance. Just a hunch though.
Delivery may not be next day, but I'm pretty impressed with their shipping updates - it might all be a fiction but it at least appears that my phone's making daily progress toward my clammy mitts.

Re: Patww79's midget porn, I've always thought, given the high global profiles (in relation to their size) of both Ireland and midget porn, that there's a lucrative niche for some shameless entreporneur, LepraPorn (not to be confused with LeproPorn, which would just be a bit too unpleasant and frankly distracting, with bits dropping off and all that). This is a family thread so I won't go into detail, but suffice to say a little basic colour manipulation of existing oeuvres could yield startling outcomes.

@Roberto_gas You're spot on. It's a roccoculous deal. I really hope this model (producing budget devices with great specs) catches on.

When you consider what €300 will get you in Vodafone or the likes, it's a fantastic deal.

I meant phones in general. Though if someone is happy to do it, then grand. Means the complaint about resolution on Netflix is redundant at least.

    probably eglobal still

although they don't have the red one in stock at the mo which (aside from the more expensive kevlar backed one) is the best colour imo

delivery in a week to 10 days. no customs or delivery charges

Seems pretty informative. Mine's making steady progress toward its new home (assuming it's not all lies!)

EDIT - just checked again - it's arrived in Ireland already! Placed the order 6 days ago and it's already in country! Way quicker than I feared 😀

Don't know much about dual sim? Is it a positive or a negative?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,509 ✭✭✭sioda

Have dual sim in my op3 and if you travel especially to the US it's fantastic have data sim in one and text and calls through my Irish one.
When at home use my main eir one and have a payg from 3 in the other mainly for backup or to use the 3 plus app

  • Registered Users Posts: 78 ✭✭The Soup Thief

Certainly not a negative. If you don't wanna use it, don't use it.

    My phone arrived!
    w00t!
Just getting my head round it - MIUI is a bit odd. Love the speed. Nice display. Solid build. Don't really like the fact that I got an international charger and an adaptor, but that's fairly peripheral. Will report back later...

Yes, I ordered the xiaomi max3. After a week or so, I queried what was happening, and was told it was not in stock, but on the way. Surely I should have been told this when ordering? You can't beat Amazon, no messing.
