Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have a beard trimmer. There are various lengths and the longest is 16mm. Would this work ok or do I need an actual hair trimmer

Damn, you're right. It's one of those items you can no longer get on amazon

Very different for me. For example anytime I have returned a product they have already started to process the refund before they even receive it.
But if you support more local business that's good. I use amazon because it's easy and I'm lazy.

This looks like something I bought once. Used to use it to trim my head, now use it to trim my beard; https://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/4438403/Trail/searchtext%3EREMINGTON+HAIR+CLIPPER.htm for €28.99 except the one I have has a plug.

Or this one on Amazon; https://www.amazon.co.uk/Remington-Clippers-Lengths-Trimming-Detailing/dp/B012F8MS9A/ for £29.99

I had a lot of hassle trying to find a half decent hair clippers in stock anywhere last weekend. I ended up buying from the Argos Ireland eBay store

  • Registered Users Posts: 216 ✭✭Max H

If your looking for hair clippers, Babyliss UK site. They have clippers in stock and do free delivery to Ireland. Just bought a set yesterday.

I went through web site up to payment, but it wouldn't process payment, so i e-mailed their customer services yesterday morning with my details.
At 4pm i got a call from a very nice customer support agent, who processed my order. Also explained that their system sometimes struggles with Irish address and numbers.

She said they have had a 700% increase in clipper sales, so i would be quick

I have Address Pal as well, but as its free to Ireland, thought it would save a trip to post office during lockdown, she said they use DPD, be interesting to see whose arrives first.

When I use the site and look at a number of the hair clippers it says use the full site(not mobile) then on the full site it says home delivery not available.

So hair clippers are not included in the select items.

Bought a babyliss crew cut one in Boots the other day. €89 for the flipping thing but the wife said they had only 3 left on the shelf and that was the cheapest one.
I'm 37 years getting a short back and sides and gave myself a blade 2 all over the night before last. Love the feel of it and I'll probably keep the hair this way now but will probably need a hairdresser to tidy the lines on the neck and around the lugs sometime again

Just got a slightly different model to that one (though still super clipper) for €72.50 on Oxendales. Delivery in about a week. Should still be in lockdown long enough after I go at my hair for it to recover again if I make a balls of it :)

Not a bad price and they have 25% off for new customers. I wonder can I cancel the babyliss order :pac:

I ordered it today also, around 70 work euros.

Just wanted to clarify if shipping address shows Ireland for you? For me Ireland is there in billing address, but not in shipping address. Other address lines are all correct including Eir code.

if you have an order number e-mail the customer care e-mail, which is on the website to confirm your delivery address

Salon Savers based in Dublin seem to have a good selection. Haven't used them personally so probably best to call first to be sure they have some stock.

I bought some stuff from Terrisales last week with next day delivery, but they are not listing many clippers on their site now so probably don't have many in stock just now.

The Wahl Super Taper at ~€60 is a good clippers and seems to be showing as in stock when you add to cart on Salon Savers.

Apologies, didn't know they were ex VAT prices. I've been using one of those clippers for years and would recommend

I looked at the price and wondered why it was so cheap.

I have an electric razor that’s more for a beard than a hair cut... I’m tempted to give the back and sides a trim, how likely is it that I’ll be able to get a semi normal cut from it? I usually get a 0.5 on the back and sides so not bothered about the length.

EDIT: it’s this one but I don’t have the additional heads anymore. https://ie.carethy.net/hygiene-and-health/braun/p-363940?r=4210201167556&gclid=CjwKCAjwg6b0BRBMEiwANd1_SBNDwcxDT3AF1j5mwSDE1pLm83DX19MG8Yw0qSttnw3cJepNhgkTrBoCtdcQAvD_BwE

Are you folks shaving your heads yourself. I live on my own so I don't know if I should give it a go myself in case I make a mess.

Depends how short you're going. If you go as short as the razor can go it's fairly obvious if you missed a spot when you feel the back of your head.
That's what I go for but my hair grows back fast.
For longer cuts I'm sure you could learn the basic techniques from youtube. And of course if you have a portable mirror you can use 2 mirrors to check the back of your head.

Our chemist has some in stock so will get one tomorrow. Husband tried cutting sons hair yesterday with a beard trimmer - no joy. It's too narrow and not powerful enough. He stopped after doing 2 short strips.

I don't live alone but I intend to do it myself.

I'll be using the bigger combs so it'll still be long enough that I probably can't make a total horror show of it.

That said, I'm not incapable of making an àrse of it either :pac: But enough time without seeing too many people will pass before the growth covers the majority of sins.

If you are shaving all over with the same blade attachment then you won't go too far wrong doing it yourself. Obviously use a mirror and for the back of the head just take your time. A handy little trick is to check for missed areas by taking a small video recording of the back of your head, that will show what you've missed. It's not ideal but it's something when there is no one in the house to check for you.
Another tip, like face shaving, it's all about the angle of the blade on the surface. Don't change the angle at the wrist, let the elbow do the moving and keep the wrist at the same position. That way will ensure you're always attacking the hair at the same angle all the time.

    Good luck with it.

I resorted to using the Zoofari animal clippers I got for the dog in Lidl. As far as I can tell they are basically the same clipers a barber would use. Number 4 all over, tidy job.

    Gents,

Wondering how you're finding the scissors that accompany some of the electric clippers?

While beggars can't be choosers at the moment, I have very thick hair, and I'd prefer to wait for restocking rather than butchering it with rubbish scissors.

My kemei https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07MJFRF1N/ arrived (early as it was on back order and not supposed to arrive till the 16th). So gave it a try out on the beard. WOW, 30 second job with a number 1 (3mm) guard/comb and its done.

For thirty pounds its excellent, seems to be a good copy of a Whal trimmer and takes the Whal guards/combs, you get the standard (most often used) no 1, 2, 3 and 4 guards (3, 6, 10 and 13mm).

Now I have to decide if I really need a hair cut :o

Sorry just noticed its Currently not available on Amazon.
