Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That's the state of play alright.

This has it's own long running thread here - https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057676265&page=263

A bit quiet just now but any updates on MUP will show up pretty quickly.

That's in relation to MUP which is covered by another section of the same act. That hasn't been implemented yet either and there is no firm date for doing so as of right now.

What we're talking about here is the ban on use and redemption of loyalty points on purchases of alcohol, the ban on meal deals etc containing alcohol and the ban on short-term (less than three days) discounting. So no more Lidl weekend wine offers.

Redbreast at £36 is arguably a better buy

I have a few but I wouldn't trust them with a bottle of Green Spot :)

Dunnes have 20% off six bottles of wine and a case of Carlsberg 300ml bottles for €15.

The mix and match 24 cans + bottle of spirits for €50 is still running.

I wonder is this truly the discount they have on the site. I paid £32 for the same bottle in early December last year from Amazon.

They'll contact you by post and give you the option of paying the duty due on it, you pay that and they post it to you.

Any idea how much? Roughly? Or does it depend on the price etc.. it was the green spot for £30.

    Cheers for reply

They've got a set formula they use involving strength and volume, I say you'd find it online.

No doubt there will be an admin fee too! Think duty is around 42 euro per litre which would work out around 30eur per 700ml

Dunno how its that high though when RRP of spirits can be well below that. But thats whats on revenues website.

  • Registered Users Posts: 330 ✭✭wildrover444

With regards to amazon is that with any type of alcohol you buy with them that u can get caught with customs. I was looking at some ale on there for Xmas thru parcel motel. Would come to around 25 quid

It is €42.57 per litre of alcohol so for a 40% 700 ml bottle duty is €11.92. Don’t know about admin fee.

Admin fee is not charged by Revenue. When applied, it is by carrier for clearing goods through customs.

That Jack Daniels down to €20 from €34 is great value too.

If it's a first offence, once you contact them and offer to pay the duty, they don't charge (or at least they didn't when it happened to me) and just post it out to you reminding you that duty needs to be paid, etc.

Should be pointed out that this *may* happen. They're perfectly entitled to - and technically probably should - simply destroy the contents.

Not so, you are entitled to the option of paying the duty or else having them destroy or dispose of it anyway they see fit. You can pay for a portion of a consignment and have the rest seized if you ask nicely.

This letting you off for your first offence scenario is nonsense.

Theyve asked for a proof of purchase and receipt/invoice to see whether duty was paid.

Amazob on the other hand have refunded me the cost of green spot after various online chats as I told them i simply did not receive said item.
So could be getting a very cheap bottle :)
