The dog’s owner was on liveline today so anyone can listen back for details of health issues, cause of death etc. if you wish.

Thanks for posting that. I wouldn’t have known about the live line segment otherwise as we don’t listen to RTÉ.

So you know that as "fact" seeing as you are so set on them in this situation. Do you personally know the owner, or the kennels? Or shock horror, are you just going "on a fb post"?

I personally know the treating vet, & the dog, not the owner. I also have a clear understanding of chronic colitis & acute colitis and the effects of immunosuppressive combi steroids on the gastric system.
That's pretty much what we've been saying all along, yet you've been victim blaming and standing up for the caregivers because you take fb posts with a "pinch of salt"

I always take whatever I see on social media with a pinch of salt, you don’t?
What else is he going to say? Parvo has not been mentioned at all until that quote was attributed to him. And why didn't he tell that to the owner, why didn't he contact the owner prior to collection, or even prepare her for the shock of seeing her dog like that.

Parvo is feasible though but it’s not an excuse to wrap someone’s pet like that. Point is how do we know what’s real or fake about this, who did what ...etc

This isn't the only story coming out of here, so even those with the sorest of behinds from sitting on that neutral fence need to take the blinkers off.

Agree, it’s not the first horror story I’ve heard about them, but being an ex puppy farmer would be enough for me to avoid them.

borderlinemeath and em_cat, drop this petty argument now. There is now a dedicated thread for this topic. Please move your argument there. This exchange is ruining the laid-back chilled vibe of the chat thread.

A lovely moment here out in west mayo during a hard week.... Sun came out and I was sitting out and thus so were my five cats.

Suddenly a white butterfly appeared and one of the new cats went .... crazy! leaping and twisting to try to catch it.... her first butterfly...

So strong and healthy and alive now.... this is the one who was so abused and traumatised she could not go through a door,, Now she yells to be let in!

That image cheers me on a dark day; small fluffy black cat chasing a white butterfly.. sheer magic

We used to live in a top floor apartment with a bay window overlooking the green. There was a little, delicate, fine boned cat that on a sunny morning would stretch and leap and twirl after butterflies. She was so lithe, she looked more like a ballerina than a predator. I loved to sit in the window and watch her!

We got a cat yesterday. She had been thrown over the gate of a rescue in a sealed bag. Just had kittens. The other cat in the bag with her was having kittens yesterday.
    Rescue spayed her .

Is happily sitting on the sink in the utility room.

Cat experts, have you got any opinion/experience of the Bob Martin CLEAR wormers for cats? I usually dont care for Bob Martin products - dont know why - the CLEAR type is it any good? Also online I see brand BEAPHAR a lot - is this a good product?

Ive got some ex-ferals, that I want to put spot on flea and worm treatment on. They are inside/outside cats. Ive been using BROADLINE (or Advocate) from the vet - SOOOOO expensive - so thought I'd try AMAZON products for a bit of savings. There is FRONTLINE (flea & Tick) £15.50 for 6 pipettes. and various wormer products that are approx £5 - much cheaper than what I usually get at vet. Anyone order wormer/flea+tick products online? Any recommendations?

So we introduced our cat Pangur to my sister's kittens yesterday as a trial run to see how she would get on with another cat in the house. Understandably the kittens were stressed about being in a new place and the male was VERY threatened and hissed constantly at Pangur. The female kitten seemed interested but was too shy to come near Pangur at all.
For Pangur, she didn't give a ****. Wasn't threatened by the new cats in her territory, didn't react to the hissing, and completely ignored the female kitten when we brought them together. She was totally comfortable and didn't act aggressively or fearfully at all. So.............success? I think? Its certainly put my husbands mind at ease about adopting again. He was imagining cat fights and fur flying. I'm delighted. Moar Kittehs!!!

always fun and always unpredictable.. When I brought three new young cats home last October, I had rigged up the dog crate in the kitchen with all they needed to make the acceptance by the 2 older cats easier. Bars between them . It went very well but a little occasional friction when the kids get boisterous.
Pangur did very well but she was on her home turf? always easier.

Got shelving up in the cat run this weekend, safe to say they're enjoying being able to bask up high in the sun. Nice being able to leave doors open too. Happy cats, happy owners, happy neighbours, money well spent.

Anyone know anywhere in Maynooth / Celbridge /Leixlip that's good for dogs to swim.
Our 2 are nuts about swimming as we discovered today but Im nervous around Castletown house..waters quite fast there for them.
Looking for somewhere a bit calmer that they can get in and out of easily.

I was going to suggest Castletown, we use to bring our Shih tzu there and she feckin loved swimming with me in the river there.

The boy among the three new cats was slowest to show affection. Then he started suddenly getting in front of me and lying down.. see photo. Yesterday a new thing; he crept up the bed and nuzzled into my neck, gazing soulfully into my eyes!

Smudgie was so slow to trust but now he follows me down the lanes, into the fields..like a wee dog... he is absolutely fixated on any food he can get at in any way, from his street stray days.

All I do is love them, and that it so easy..

Sorry jellybear but I've deleted your post. A number of organisations are named in it and one in particular, a number of times. It reads like all the events mentioned are fundraising events and I wonder if they are all to raise funds for one organisation. I wonder actually if that's who sent you the email.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,223 ✭✭✭jellybear

No problem at all! As I said in the post, if it wasn't okay then delete away :) It was actually a local vet practice who sent it, not any particular rescue. Pity it was so fundraiser focused as the events seemed good for socialisation of dogs etc which can be a tricky one for dog owners, myself included :)

Looked up the long lane y'day as I was gardening and thought i saw something black moving way away,

I called and immediately saw a black streak racing towards me down the lane! And i mean racing! It was the new black cat who was the most abused and jumpy. She will still be wary of the door but when I speak to her she is fine.

Great progress and she is happy..

Cream is on his way home from a day in the vets having his teeth cleaned, we normally get him a dental every year but with the way things planned out this year we were late getting it and the poor scut ended up with gingivitis again :( hopefully he will be a lot happier when he’s home with his shiny new gnashers :D
Is it bad that I think he’s cutest when he’s coming around after anaesthetic? He’s so dopey and lovable :pac:

Three weeks in the new house, the cats are allowed outside and they're been brilliant. But Amelia is out now and it's nearly 2am... I can see her but she just doesn't want to come back in... She regularly spent whole nights outside in the three other places we lived! I know she's ok. It's just the first night.... I can't grab her cause she's like an eel! But I do have to go to bed eventually!

Oh Amelia, please come inside! Running out of treats here.

Is anyone else in love with Garda Lazer?

I'm besotted and I need to know if he really does have one floppy ear or if its just the way that its lying in his press pic.

Edited to add: I just found a pic on twitter and he has 2 point ears. He is just adorable.

Now the days are long I wake early and often walk the lane around five am. Followed by up to five cats.

Today, watched the two young black rescues racing and leaping in an overgrown field with such zest and glee...

Life on a small island is not always totally easy but watching these cats makes it worth it. Never seen cats leap so high.. ah far better than street life.. for all of us
