    Nice little pickup
    2013-07-20124554-1.jpg

and a shook looking old workhorse golf. I'd say it could be running veg oil, looked very sticky around the fuel filler and a sticky mark running down the side. Typical of spilling some when filling. Super cheap motoring then

I had the biggest goofy grin of my face after seeing this at the 5 lamps today, i love seeing old complete underdog cars still trundling along, this old lady was smoking up the northstand and it turned off at Supervalu at Killester, made my day seeing it. :)

There's one pottering around on the westcoast with Clare reg. A lot of history there.

Saw this nice '59 Mercury Monterey towing a '68 Caravan at lunchtime.

Then when I pulled back on to the road I met this '57 Buick, unfortunately I pulled the trigger too soon so the pic is rather grainy. It was in really immaculate condition.

Why does Sweden have such 'cruisable' summers , looks like a country and mindset that just says 'ENJOY'

It's quite warm and nice, but that also has become a problem in costal regions where midges are an issue to the point, that people have to evacuate the area.

Both pro and con. As everywhere. And honestly, I don't think we can complain about our current summer.

In case ye think there is only yank stuff here, here is an MGA and a Morgan resting in the shade this morning (making it difficult to get a good pic).

    WP_000821_zps2f1a52f8.jpg

There may be a British Classic car meet up somewhere local today as during the morning I also met a midget and an MGB roadster.

A neighbour a couple of doors away arrived home with this Mehari a few weeks ago.

@Capri based on my not very scientific perception I'd say the odds of a good summer in Sweden are the reverse of the odds in Ireland. i.e. you can expect 1 really good summer in 5 in Ireland whereas I would expect 1 really bad summer in 5 in Sweden. It makes getting some really worthwhile use out of a classic a much better prospect here. There is also a very big classic car following here and if I had the time I could probably go to a cruise or classic car meet within 50 miles of here every week in the summer.

@Marlow I believe the problem with insects is predominantly in the far north, we are fortunate that our garden ends on the beach here and never have a problem with insects. The only irritation is the occasional bad smell of fermenting sea weed!

IMO Ireland (mentally) is still in deep depression, along with the car scene because of taxes/messing etc. I was up in Rovaniemi and drove to Tromsø in July'11 - weather warmer than in Ireland at the time, no problems with midges although I stopped by a few lakes and had a kip with the windows open. :)

Re the EPA traktor - here's an Irish version, the UNIBOG :eek:

Saw that before, it's an abomination. Half baked hack job made of one of the best 4x4s ever.
It's a terrible shame the typical irish mentality dictates that we throw something away rather than fix it, so many of those left to rot when they were mechanically spot on just because of a bit of welding needed for a DOE test.

Anyway, all these sweden pictures are making me want to return to scandinavia for another good poke around. Still have a few photos actually if i can find the card.

The SIMI are mainly responsible for the current state of the classic market - scrap the old one (a perfectly good car) and buy a brand new one ( put yourself into debt ). They put mechanics out of business ( who could fix most of the older cars ) and now they're whinging because the customer hasn't fallen for their new ploy and won't buy a new car twice a year (131/132 ):mad:

have to agree with ya there man, a modern mechanic would not touch a classic if it dont plug into a computor. my next yolk will be old school, plugs points etc , hate modern crap. who wants a new plate any way ,the way the have split the year is a joke, cos when ya go to sell a 132 reg it is only 6 months old but it will be seen as a year old motor..joke

AD is Gloucestershire, not sure of the exact year, but the car is probably from the 1930's

edit: The additional A before the AD means that it was one of the first XXX NNN plates, which replaced the XX NNNN plates when they ran out - this changeover began in 1932 (the changeover varied by county as the old indexes ran out at different times), but the car should date from the early 30's
