pity 'bout the 2000's style plates :o:o:o

(Interesting info in Wiki about wages v's new car prices - still seems to apply, 26 weeks wages can buy you a new car :o
In 1960, the manufacturer's recommended retail price of £494 was equivalent to 26 weeks' worth of the average UK wage.[7] The £100 charged in 1935 and the £1,299 charged for the Ford Escort Popular in 1975 both also amounted to 26 weeks' worth of average wage for the years in question.[7] In the 1950s, however, the country had been undergoing a period of above average austerity: in 1953 the car's £390 sticker price represented 40 weeks' worth of the average UK wage.

On a holiday in Malaysia a few years back, unsurprisingly, every second car was a Proton. Rare sight here nowadays but over there, utterly unremarkable.

Proton was the deFacto taxi in Malaysia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Proton_Iswara_taxis,_Kuala_Lumpur.jpg
Along with their thieving drivers :mad:
In a June 2008 survey couducted by Malaysian expatriate magazine The Expat on an estimated 200 foreigners from 30 countries, Malaysia's taxis were found to rank the lowest among the 23 countries in terms of quality, courtesy, availability and expertise.[1][2] The behaviour of the offending taxi drivers has tarnished the image of Malaysia, particularly among foreign tourist, to the point some have begun resorting to paying for upscale taxis that are more expensive but operate with better service.

My last trip between Sepang LCCT and KLIA (fixed fare), driver was a total bo**ox so when I was getting out of cab he opened the boot remotely and I took my case out, leaving the boot and rear door open for the lazy bo**ix to get out and close himself :P:P

Don't like the kip, KL, too many Indian thieves there for a supposedly 'rigid muslim' state !

a bit of blurry old style class for post 1,000 :)

88 convertible Rolls spotted in Greystones over the weekend. Not sure of the exact model, but it looked like it was a 70s design, going from the tail-lights. If i'm not mistaken, these were approx £250k new

It's a Rolls Royce Corniche, based on the older Silver Shadow, so it's supposed to look like that, I think they built them in that model almost until 2000. Still an expensive car, they hold their value very well.

Is this a Chevette estate? With a hood scoop, it'd look like a full on 70s drag car. Dunno if it's the colour or the stance but to me it has a certain drag car style to it.

My wifes 1st car was a Vauxhall Viva, and boy did she love that car. Made several trips to Ireland. It was a 1970, Reg. No. PLT 243 H. Bought it in 1974, £350. It was a great little car. :D:D

always loved those DTV Chevette HS and especially the HSR with the lovely flared arches . A copy of CCC was not complete without a Bill Blydenstein built example to drool over.

CCC, one of my regular reads back then - wonder how much I'd have in the bank if I hadn't bought all those motor mags back then  Bill Blydenstein used to race Borgwards in the early days , and along with him didn't Jack Brabham tune Vivas ?

Ah , the good old days, when you hung on David Vizards every word, Gerry Marshall had "big bertha" and "baby bertha" and an Imp was a serious choice for a performance car .....
