Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The breakdown by Forest Griffin is very complimentary. Conor landed the knee to the head as Khabib shot, and probably could've disengaged at a number of points during the initial scramble.

Watching with the retrospective of the efforts of Porier and Gaethje, he did far better than either of them.

    .

Josh Thompson was the one I couldn't thinking of, positively glowing of McGregors performance more for the fact he was surprised he had it in his game.....can't find that vid on utube now

He's only fought there twice ffs.

The post was about him not belonging at FW. I was pointing out he never missed weight, simple really. If Conor shouldn't have cut to 145, Khabib shouldn't be at LW.

You are dealing with McGregor haters here. Some of them pretend to be Khabib fans but you'll find that it's all negative about Conor McGregor, probably because they are so jealous of an Irishman whose made a fortune.

This explains a lot of your recent posts.

    What posts?
I'm not a huge McGregor fan, don't like the nasty stuff he was at.
I respect him as a business man though.

    In the UFC.

Still, after all this time and knowing and following his career, I'm still taken aback every time I see he's only fought twice at his optimum weight class in the UFC. Crazy.

How have you decided that lightweight is his optimum weight class?
I'd imagine featherweight is given his height.

It's called weight class not hieght class . You have to be taking the piss after telling us all week khabib is a welterweight.

I've decided because you all disagree that welterweight is Khabib's proper weigh class that lightweight is McGregor's. He's 5'8" tall, always made weight at feather without a struggle.

It's amazing how it all turned when I found out that even Javier Mendez admitted the weigh in looked dodgy.

Didn’t you say you thought Khabib was about 175 in there?
    That’s a LW not a WW.
Big Welterweights walk into the cage around 190, small welters would still be north of 180

I didn't guess his weight, I said if Gaethje was 160 then I'd guess Khabib was 175. If Gaethje was 170 then I'd guess Khabib was 185. There looked to be at least a stone in the difference between them.

Well, not being able to tell the difference between 160 and 170 or 175 and 185 is probably common, but it kinda questions the reliability of your estimate of their weights in general.

FWIW, I didn't think there was anything near a 15lbs between them. I'm not going to get a job guessing weights in a carnival or anything. But I compete in a sport with weight divisions, so Im constantly aware of what people atually weigh. I'd say Khabib was 175, and Gaethje about 168 - his choice he could be heavier if he wanted.

Also. Gaethje would be a slimmer build compared to Khabib's ninja turtle like physique.

I don't know what it is about Khabib's head, but it just looks solid. And his neck. Particularly in interviews. He doesn't have a big head, but it looks like you'd break a baseball bat if you hit him.

As per my post in the other thread..Lads the bickering is getting tiresome..I have no problem banning a few of you for a week or two for the sake of some peace and quiet if you can't have a normal discussion like grown adults. That's directed at everyone..so cut out the nonsense or you will find yourself on a break, and once you go on a break they only get longer the next time until its permanent one. If you aren't able to have a proper discussion then maybe do yourself a favour and just don't post here and take it to reddit or Sherdog.

No I did not. I just gave examples of disparity in my opinion, I never guessed a weight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,284 ✭✭✭✭rob316

If you make the weight you can fight at that weight, its that simple. McGregor turned himself into a corpse to make FW, Darren Till killed himself to make WW when he's clearly a middleweight. I really don't think you gain much of an advantage fighting against smaller guys as you have put your body through some serious change to make the weight.

I've cut weight for a fight in a weight class I shouldn't have been fighting in, its ****ing awful, I was gassed so quickly into the fight.

I said IF Gaethje was a certain weight that I'd guess Khabib was a weight.

How can you not grasp that?

    Anyway,

Do we reckon Conor v Dustin 2 goes the same way as the first one?
Both have made big improvements and Dustin seems a lot more durable than he was at FW, he's still very hittable though.

Yeah, i think he's a dream match for Conor. Dustin has improved for sure since the first fight, but as you say, he gets hit too easily.

    Conor Rd 2.

Would be amazing if it actually went ahead, what are the chances of it in January?

I'd be very very surprised if McGregor didn't win a similar fashion, first or second round KO imo

Conor on social media today saying he is all set to fight at lightweight, thanks to FAST of course!

Conor doing a q & a on Twitter at the moment. Some good stuff in there like as long ufc give him the dates, he would fight top 5 guys at lw by end of q1 '21. Said he is concentrating on LW next year.

    Some gems then like this.

    Q&A was decent

its that kind of stuff he needs to do to reconnect with the fans and get a buzz going, it seemed like he enjoyed it aswell.

He needs all he can to reclaim the top selling PPV the Khabib V Gaethje did...... 675k

I'm fairness to him Covid did kind of ruin any plans and you can see he has been trying to get fights. Dana ain't easy to work wit. Not that Conor is either mind.

But yeah he will never fight 3+ times in a year cause the UFC are too slow to book top fights even when the fighters want them.

    That's the joke,

Dana was creaming himself that 254 was trending to smash the current PPV record when it didn't even make the top 20 of all time and only 5th highest in 2020.

Conor's records will never be broke

It was never gonna do a big but rate being on at that time, just didn't suit the US market

Saw that and he deleted it not long after. Hard to know if he was told to remove it or just felt like a sap

Honestly Dana takes the absolute piss when trying to make fights. I get it is probably hard to work out the details but consistently he seems to waste months to organise fights when the fighters themselves are always pushing for it to be sooner.

I took it as them lowballing him again. Same thing happened for the Ferguson fight.

What happened to McGregor being the money fight? Red panty night?

I remember Mendes & Diaz, going from like $40k up to $500k. Then Alvarez was reported to have fought on his normal contract. Cerrone too I think got his standard pay. Disclosed anyway, PPV might be different story.

I wondered why Mendes & Diaz got those rises. They would have taken the fight for less I say. UFC seem to have changed tack on this after Diaz held them over a barrel for the rematch.

Tough spot for Poirier. Refuse the fight because you think you deserve more & miss out on all the other benefits.
