Surprised by what? RTE's western correspondent?

Surprised that Google collect location data and know where the device is located. This has been the case for nearly 15 years.

Surprised by what? RTE's western correspondent?

Jim Corr's paranoid interpretation of it.

Information -> Jim Corr's mind -> delusional garbage

That's the flow, but hey it gets him twitter followers, so there's that

Not to mention it's opt-in, and the output was produced as meta-data.

you would have to wonder how Corr could be surprised by this. How did he think Google Maps predicted travel times?

It's not like Google ever collected data, (without) ensuring an opt-in ever before e.g. their Streetview cars on European roads.
A European audit reveals the web giant 'accidentally' stored payload information from open networks

...'accidentally' gathering extracts of personal web activity from domestic wifi networks through the Street View cars it has used since 2007.
Wifi network names (SSIDs) and identifiers (Mac addresses) for devices like network routers.

Meanwhile in more recent times (this week) thanks to coronavirus, some EU states have somewhat killed their own democracy.
The EU has shrugged it shoulders, as one of it's states declared rule by decree for an indefinite period of time.

The further imposition of border closures to the utilization of mass digital surveillance, may become the new normal for Europe, and the bloc can't stop it, even if it wanted to. It can ask nicely, but that's about it.

Maybe (as some poster allude to), maybe we should celebrate the effects of COVID19 as it results in the birth of authoritarian nationalism.
After all if you have nothing to hide from your phones bluetooth and gro-location access, and new manditory tracking apps, that can also access your camera, pictures and contacts, sure you have nothing to fear.

You seem to be taking information in, and applying some very broad strokes to it and coming out with.. I'm not sure.

If Hungary, yes Orban is a right wing authoritarian dick (my opinion), and could take advantage of pandemic measures

If other countries in Europe, most aren't authoritarian and will likely remove the common sense restrictions in place (step by step) as (if) the pandemic eases

Aside from your childish name calling/swearing and ignorance in failing to call out any other (left-wing) dicks, who may (also) be messing up somewhat. E.g. the Swedes has done SFA to date. Also fairly popular Boris, has been sitting on his hands for too long, creating public disquiet and public calls for more action.

    So...

It looks like you have a conspiracy theory created on and by your own hands, well done:
"An EU state is taking advantage of Cornovirus"

Do you now suddenly dissaprove this?

Specifically: of App tracking, geo-location data capture, using wireless bluetooth beacons (30 meter range, pre-amplification), smart live facial recognition cameras (requiring 5G), and mandatory access to typical 'smartphone's' tools such as pictures, data, logs and contacts (creation and tracking of a new 'Digital Identy', so to speak).

Just watch Oliver North reaction when he was asked about the shadow government! Another senator stepped in quickly and said don't answer that a classified area. Answering that would expose the rogue deep state.

Haven't read all these pages or seen if this has been shown before... but highly interesting from back in the early days of the pandemic...

You can ignorantly accuse me of "whataboutism," but what it really is involves identifying similar scenarios in order to see if it holds up when the shoe is on the other foot!

I wrote that an authoritarian leader like Orban could take advantage of the new measures. There are people quite rightly concerned about it.

Conspiracies, inside jobs, plots, sleaze, collusion, etc happen all the time, however that's not really a "conspiracy theory" of the sorts we read on this forum, it's more to do with the nature of politics in that country.

Such an innocent little mind. If a country is going to 'take advantage' or abuse of power, it would very most likely start with the 'strict monitoring and surveillance of it's citizens'.

Outside of gossip and reporting of sick people to an 1800 hotline. The current best tool for this is using a 'Digital ID'. Currently this is limited to installing a state approved App (either via push or manditory measures), which constantly monitor all actions, locations and data.

The down side with this is you can say you only use a dumb phone, have no battery power, or 'forgot your phone' when heading out for a walk.

Now if only there was some sort of persistant, portable and embedded always-on, non-escapable, birth-to-death technology that could fix this problem... Ah wait its our old friends over at www.id2020.org to the resuce !

    It's a perfectly valid view.

Oh so vague, undecisive, and very sit on the fence-ish.
    A perfectly squirmish view.

You would now appear unable commit to a conspiracy theory that you yourself alluded to.
Quickly backtracked, and focused on the italacised 'could' factor, and then sugest to holding this 'could' as valid.

    So very innocent.

How exactly do you think a state 'could' (as you say) 'take advantage' of COVID?
May it have something to do with e.g. say manditory/push Apps installed on Smartphones?

have we moved on from the mark of the beast to mandatory smart apps?

anyway, no CT required for Orban. He is a right-wing authoritarian.

Due to this pandemic Hungary passed emergency legislation allowing Orban to rule by decree with no time limit set on it. And since he's on the authoritarian end of the spectrum, with not a great track record, it's open for potential abuse.

I have no idea how or why you are trying to insert a national ID project for the world's poor into that, or this debate

Sure you don't like him, as is evident by your name calling and personal bias, perhaps you're likely batting hard for the left-wing, who knows for sure.

But yet you have indeed suggested due specifically to the COVID situation, he could now 'take advantage of pandemic measures'.

This sounds much like a 'conspiracy theory'.
The very thing you spend your days trying desperately to close, a theory of conspiracy.

Minor misunderstanding, not you, it was Dohnjoe chap that had said:

"Orban is a right wing authoritarian dick"

Which alluded to prior held bias from him, before presenting his conspiracy theory.

This is exactly why these insane conspiracy theories need to be questioned not just believed.

Sure it can be fun to spread anti 5g rumours, but people take this stuff very seriously and will believe it, when there is literally no evidence to back it up.

They're entities who will assert blindly that there is no scientific resistance to 5G and is not unhealthy.  If they do, a small bit of researching, they'll find this.

    http://www.5gappeal.eu/about/

List of scientists who think 5G dangerous.
    https://emfscientist.org/index.php/emf-scientist-appeal

This is not info to back up the theory 5G and the Virus are linked. Just information that most people never saw before.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,792 ✭✭✭✭Dohnjoe

If they do, a small bit of researching, they'll find this.

They'll find a lot of anti-5g sites posing as legitimate information. Some people are unable to tell the difference between real information and carefully crafted disinformation. A lot of people are unable to tell the difference between good science and bad science.

Are 5g signals perfectly safe? No
Are the suns rays perfectly safe? No

There's a relative risk to both. Cranks and alarmists exploit the grey area in order to scare-monger that the risk is higher or much higher than it really is.

Entertaining and more shift of stances by Dohnjoe.  Previously you claimed 5G was not dangerous and was completely safe.

The website is not disinformation. Linking this site with other 5G- conspiracy sites you find online is hilarious. There the names of scientists and their department listed on this site, all writing to the UN summarizing why- 5G is potentially dangerous right now.

Are 5g signals perfectly safe? No

Perfectly safe (no) mean? Why would anybody use a technology that not 100 per cent safe for the public? How do you know if it is scaremongering? Are you educated enough about 5G to judge these scientists are wrong?

My position and is opinion. China bought research from America leading scientists and somehow the virus got leaked. I don’t think its a conicidence that Charles Lieber ( one of America top chemists) and the Harvard Department chair of Chemical, and Chemical, biology research got arrested in Jan 2020. From media reports i looked up last night his last visit to Wuhan was in Nov 2019.
