Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Jesus they're just advising/warning people to be prepared, three people lost their lives during Storm Ophellia two years ago and this storm has the potential to be just as severe, how difficult is that to understand

Have to do a bit of shopping tomorrow and I already know there will be no bread, people love to buy bread during bad weather

Another non event. Just your typical autumn storm. No chance of a red warning. Windy and wet that’s it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,548 ✭✭✭FishOnABike

What time will it get windy at? If I drive from Wicklow to Clare leaving at 4 30 pm will I be alright?!

Would probably be quicker driving from Clare to Wicklow with a good tailwind!

I’m back from holidays on Friday. Suppose to touch down at 6pm in Dublin.

Reckon should be ok and will have passed by then?

Most likely yeah. Worst comes to worst, you'll circle the airport for an hour or two

Yes it should have passed by 5.59 pm  Look nobody knows at this stage how severe it will be, where/when it will hit, etc, the hint is in the title of this thread "potential" storm.

One more thing I'm organising in advance...a pair of portable chargers for my phone. I can then set up a WiFi hotspot for any other devices in the house at the time. I've ensured all laundry is done. Tied down the galvanised turfshed roof!

Didn't snow follow Ophelia, the next day? Bit early now but this is very early for a proper storm too.

Please read the thread. The main effects will be FRIDAY morning, not Thursday morning. And no, there won't be countrywide disruptions, if any.

Or if it's anything like the last "Hurricane" we get a red warning despite only being in a Yellow Warning area :D:p

Will it bring with it those palm trees that bend over?

PLEASE keep these discussions serious!! I'm trying to read my charts! This is all very IMPORTANT!! It's a 98% Orange??? The Arpege is clashing with the ECM and the GFS is not returning my calls!

WHAT THE **** IS GOING ON???

    (...runs away screaming....)

What annoyed me about that is that the storm was about 100km from the south east coast and Met E was telling people in Mayo and Donegal to stay in their homes??? Was just a very lazy blanket forecast.

My neighbour is calling it the "Big Wind" and is heading to the hardware store for boards so he can board up his windows. Suggested I do the same. Is this excessive?

Dorothy should avoid tornados, that's all I'm saying.

If you live on the Azores, yes. Otherwise, an orange alert at worst.

Someone I know has been putting the word out that his friend in shipping coordination has warned of a massive storm to hit the West. I'm just unsure what to think or expect at this point.

Absolutely nothing being broadcast to shipping by the Coastguard at present

I don't know who or where but I doubt this person made it up if you see what I mean. He mentioned the shipping coordinator liases with meteorologists, globally

Could well be exagerated I guess
