Fish town will probably a good bit of craic, The Haunt should move in there.

This is worrying. I sort of naively thought after the aggressive moves and changes last year it'd settle for a few years.

Thinking of boycotting friday gigs too many tanked up d**kheads that talk through the whole gig. Talos gig ruined tonight. You know its bad when half the crowd are shushing at the start of every song.

Basement Jaxx always did an epic show back in the day. Would love to see them back.

Of the others mentioned above, I would really only be bothered with LCD Soundsystem. I am a big fan of Orbital, Leftfield and even the Chems (sometimes) put on a good show, but its all become a bit repetitive and predictable over the years. LCD always sound fresh to me, always reinventing and tweaking the songs.

Maybe D*** P*** would spice things up a bit. Will never happen of course.

Basement jaxx doing dj set at kaleidoscope not sure if that rules them out or not

How much room is there left to expand on the Stradbally Hall site, for those perhaps with a more intimate knowledge of the site?

Ah jaysus, 70k and Body and Soul gone? Thatd be a dreadful change.

No question itll sell out, the market is there, but I'd be concerned that the upper echelons of the lineup will start to reflect the more commercialised route the organisers have clearly chosen. More giant corporate stages and less unique indie architecture, more teen guitar pop and less underground avant garde weirdness.

The mass migration to ATN may well begin this coming year. Respective lineups and post festival reports will be key.

This news it a bit worrying alright, the loss of body and soul is a bigger kick in the balls than the capacity increase, though more capacity will mean more scumbags, more queues, more walking in general.

I suppose we'll have to wait and see, most of us here probably have our 2020 tickets already, so I reserve judgement untill then. I really hope this won't be my last picnic, but we shall wait and see.

I wouldn't be surprised if Body&Soul Village merged with ATN, now that would be cool. :)

Ah jaysus why did you have to say that? Did you not hear? Me and curraghmore estate aren't on speaking terms!

Maybe B&S had legit reasons for pulling out, the capacity increase, the crowd control problem going into B&S for King Kong Company for example.
Maybe they thought they couldn't cope with that extra 15,000, health and safety issues and the like. Hopefully they will release a press or social media statement at some point about the changes.

Hopefully Body and Soul is just being expanded as its the best part of the festival for me and Its cool Jery Fish is getting more space I guess. The changes they made this year worked well I thought but I'm a bit concerned with the size increase FR could be milking the festival's popularity, also they might want to lose the corporate sponsorship first before they start comparing themselves to glastonbury.

    Snarky Snark Snark

There’s a lot to unpack in terms of feelings on this

    1. It’s been obvious for years that the main stage in B&S is woefully small, if they can keep the quality of bookings but shift them to a better (think Glastonbury other stage style) venue (yes that hollow is great but it’s tiny), then happy days

    2. The smaller B&S stages should be shiftable w/o issue, the former wilde camp site is pretty funking large and I’d assume that’s where they’re shifting some of the stages into after this year.

    3. The total headcount is worrying but we need to see how the stages break out, b&s is a v.large area, is it all being given to Mr Fish (if that is his real name) or used for other purposes?

    4. I doubt it means bigger headliners, EP has been punching above her weight thanks to her R&L association already, maybe a better/wider midrange with the odd exclusive here and there (this may not be a bad thing).

Yes, live(ha!)nation want a return but they’re not idiots and neither are Mr Benn and crew, they very much understand building a long term sustainable brand matters and won’t won’t to risk their revenue stream too much.

Disclaimer - I’m pissed as a fart and just blew the rest of next years tickets budget on The Who and Crowded House.
If EP does not deliver, I’m burning the mother****er down.

I've long thought that B&S were on borrowed time there. They have their own festival, and EP/FR/LN could do all the B&S area stuff themselves in house, with more control.
I'd imagine this new area will basically be the same "vibe", and it's just a move to cut B&S the company out, hence the name change too, but you never know, they could keep them on as partners.

as Mr. Monkey says above, FR are no fools, they know what's working, so they're not going to gut EP back to a barebones festival.
yes, it'll be bigger, more commercial, and no doubt even more brand partnerships than most would like, but there'll still be the little areas and variety that EP has always had.

I dont think this is the case at all. There is usually one strong headliner with the rest usually meh. The undercard is were it thrives or used to

I suppose you could see the increase coming in a way too, the new terminus area is massive but to get the use out of it, they would need to put some more high profile acts there.

I wouldn't be surprised if they put Fishtown in that are as well. This year felt like an experiment and there is a lot of spare capacity in that space.

Since Mindfield is moving, they might move the Main stage further back to give more capacity to it. Certainly wouldn't want another stage there with the sound bleed from EA and the Main stage.

Wow that is a lot of unexpected news to take in. Losing Body & Soul would be a huge shame, was only speaking to a friend last weekend about how that is such a special place, unlike any other area at any other festival I've been to. The natural amphitheater type main stage, the art installations, the small bars and areas dotted around, late night bonfires and people chilling in hammocks, etc. I remember my first EP in 2013 discovering the Body & Soul area on the Sunday night, it was an amazing moment that I will never forget. I hope whatever takes it's place does it justice because IMO it is they heart of the festival for many people.

In fairness to EP any changes they have made in recent years have generally worked, I know Freetown was in it's infancy this year but that area definitely has lots of potential and was very cool. FishTown has potential to be brilliant as well and if the atmosphere from the Jerry Fish tent can transcend into an entire area then that would make for a great addition. Biggest worry is that the extra 12,000 people will probably all be of a younger demographic and what that might mean for the lineup, I think a very strong possibility of a more commercial lineup this year. We will see in March I guess.

Wouldn't mind if Fish town took over the Trench town area, Mind and Body could take over that space and add a bigger main stage, the Amphitheatre will not be suitable as a ' main' stage when there's 70'000 knocking about the place.

Agree about the b&s bit + it's not a huge usable area? I dont think theres a huge pile of space to be gained unless there are radical reforms.

For what it's worth, Google Maps imagery has been updated and it looks like it was done just after this years festival.

Some of the big tents are still there.

One thing that stands out to me is Oscar Wilde was seriously underused this year.

Could Fishtown be used to link The Salty Dog, Spike Island and Trenchtown?

All dependent on taste. For me the last couple of years have had mixed headliners but there's no doubt that they're big acts.

This year we had three acts who've had US number ones in the past five years (Hozier, Florence, The 1975). Florence has headlined Glasto recently. The 1975 have done Reading/Leeds and are on their way to headlining Glasto. The Strokes are still headlining festivals worldwide. And there are few bigger acts on the planet than Billie Eilish.

I only like a couple of the above but there's little doubt about the pulling power of all.

Theres no doubt they are big acts. But Florence headlined more by situation then anything which puts her in with acts like ash and basement jaxx. She would'nt headline now. Hozier has not headlined any significant festivals abroad either.

I beg to differ. She headlined Hyde Park in July above the National, Lykke Li, etc. Her album was number 2 in the US and UK in 2018. She also headlined Sziget & Rock Werchter this year, two of Europe's biggest. I'm not a fan but she's undoubtedly still a Glastonbury-level headliner.

Hozier had a US and Irish number one in March. He's more popular here than elsewhere and is again clearly a headline act in Ireland. As unfortunately are Picture This should they get such a slot next year.

I did some snooping, and B&S are advertising a production job that requires people to be available for the June festival and for a lesser period for EP:

    http://bodyandsoul.ie/info/body-soul-production-coordinator-2020

So at a guess id say its the same people organising it, just a different name and maybe a different area. Theyd hardly advertise a job that requires people to work at EP if their contract had been terminated

I didn't check out "fishtown" this year :):)
I love these google images, it would be amazing if they could take during the festival.

The ground looks to be in very good shape after this years festival, we were so lucky the heavy rain landed during the night and soaked in before morning. Could you imagine how cut up the place would be if 57k punters walked around before drying.

Looks amazing. Though, to be fair, a video of a bunch of people hungover to bits and blinking incomprehensibly at the 8am sun would probably be more evocative of the true festival experience than a bunch of well dressed youngsters smiling and enjoying being alive.

Ahhh waiting to hear back on the licence explains the lack of info around ticket on sale dates.

"....Tickets go on sale on Monday priced at €290 for earlier arrivals on Thursday, €260 for a weekend pass from Friday and €100 for a day pass on the Sunday..."

The early pass has been integrated into the main ticket, which saves the double TM booking fees for those who buy Monday, for those who have tickets and want early entry will need to log on Monday to be sure?

Early entry tickets currently on sale.
