I see he’s after resurrecting John Drennan’s Radio career.
He’s not half a funny as he thinks he is. Always some quip delivered awkwardly and by the time he’s finished you wonder what his point was in the first place.

While he keeps his very generous Dail pensions (plural) that he's "entitled" (quote) to. He's "joked" patronisingly and condescendingly about those on more than one occasion.

I have two copies of "Full On" and one signed by the great man - I hasten to add that one was purchased from a charity shop to ensure that he didn't benefit by a red cent and the other was a gift. I have to confess that I only wanted to read the non-political stuff as I have known the guy for years. There's too much politics in the book to recommend it and George Hook's " Time Added On" is a much better read.

I am not Chris and Sarah's biggest fan but I distinctly remember them doing the show on various bank holiday Mondays last year.

I remember thinking, fair play to them they are trying their best to push the show on and promote the show on typically quieter news days when rival offerings often wouldn't have their first choice presenters on air.

Today we have a stand in for Ivan(I have no issue with the stand in presenter he is doing a perfectly fine job and I have no issue with him-dare i say he actually is coming across better than the main star of this show).

He said something about Ivan being away off down the country and back tomorrow.

In my experience In daily life nobody mentions this show as a talking point since it began in September.

It doesn't bode well for His listenership figures.

Also, I note that nobody has posted on this thread in over a week.

It goes to Show the level of interest that Yates has managed to generate for "his" show.

Yet he is comfortable enough to take today off and no doubt will boast about his fabulous vip weekend tomorrow.

Ciaran Cuddihy was the stand in today who is very capable. He did the show some times with Jonathan Healy just after Chris and Sarah finished and I thought they worked very well together.

Find the show with Ivan Ok. Kind of meh. Don't think he gets genuinely riled or passionate about any of the articles though which I think indicates it to be some sort of part time or casual gig for him. Maybe he was always that way but he used to have Chris on the breakfast show to bring some sense of gravitas to the topics.

He gets as incensed talking about the potential traffic leaving lepardstown as he does about the tracker scandal which I think takes from his questioning on the more serious topics.

Ivan was giving out about Bono and his mention in the latest papers on tax avoidance.

"How dare Bono use legal means to avoid paying certain taxes" ..... says the man who uses legal means to file for bankruptcy and avoid his creditors.

Unless you were listening to a different show, that's exactly what he said after the 5 o'clock news. He gave out about that and his backing of the former Burmese leader.

Yates has both TD and Ministerial pensions; but that's not the best part - as in best part for him, not the taxpayer. The best part is he started picking these up at age 43 - that's not a typo. You'd miss George for the RTE licence coverage. Ivan deciding that the orchestra is what everyone is talking about. At least you can be pretty sure the people in the orchestra are trained and competent. I'd see Tubridy and Darcy as the big reasons against a compulsory licence. They supposedly make around a million between them a year but where is the competition for them, who is going to poach them. Musicians are international and could easily go overseas.

Has any radio show addressed the RTE secret producer twitter account? Newstalk is obsessed with twitter so you would expect them to give it a shout out.

Richard went to a C. of I. school in Limerick. Teacher once asked the class to put up their hands if their parents
had a job. All the children raised their hands. The teacher announced: 'THAT'S what it means to be a Protestant!' :0

He then transferred to a Catholic school, but had to leave the room for religion class. After a while, he asked if he
could remain with his class as he did not like having to leave the room and being separated from his friends. After
a few letters going back and forth between 'school, bishops, etc.', he was allowed to stay. From then on, whenever
anything was being discussed, the teacher used to turn to Richard and ask him, 'Is that how the Protestants do it?' Lol!!

And Ivan says: 'And you finished up as an editor of The Times!'

John Halligan, RTÉ Orchestra, Mandles, Kevin Spacey, The Pope and mobile phones, teachers/schools - some of the
items 'discussed' on The Final Furlong' this evening. Very lively and entertaining panel! Ivan really does not like the

Can't warm to Yates in the slightest. He's a loudmouth & a low-brow populist, akin to Norn Iron's Stephen Nolan. Say what you like about Hook, but for all his bluster and Vera-Lynn-era frames of reference, he had a warmth and an essential decency about him that's utterly lacking in this boyo.

without a co-presenter, Ivan's weaknesses are greatly magnified.

I heard him the other day mentioning that he's often given 80* page dossiers to digest on the way home.
I suppose it saves on cat litter, because he never seems to read beyond the first of those pages.

Also he seem to think he has an insider when you just have to read RTÉ annual report to see how much RTÉ spend on the NSO and NCO. He also seemed to make it out as if they had a choice.

Yes, the broadcast fee, the replacement for the t.v. licence. Would only be fair that it doesn't all go to RTE.

The Licence fee currently doesn't all go to RTÉ, TG4 get a portion of it and also an hour of TV from RTÉ per day, while the BAI also get a portion of it, the vast majority of it goes to RTÉ 87% however as pointed out RTÉ are obligied to fund the NSO and NCO about 7.5%, long with no advertising no RnaG another 7.5%, supporting children's TV with no advertising about 5% meaning the larger audience getters get just 55 - 65% of the fee.

The broadcasting charge has been suggested before by Ministers Ryan, Rabbitte, White and Naughten all refused to introduce. With an election on the card don't expect any changes soon.

he's a revenue generator. every text costs 30c, so he comes out with some banal horse**** at the start of the show to rile people. like which county has the sexiest accent. in the week where politics has gone through a massive issue for the country, he started with that.

and people text in to lessen the losses at newstalk.

I've been listening to Radio1 most days now on the way home in the evenings. a bit dry, but much better than the buffoonery of Yates.
