Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. I adore them. I have quite a few now and I'm giving some as gifts. They are very reasonable. You can get 2 or 4 in a set and the boxes are fab.

I got a set yesterday in the Kilkenny shop, a tree decoration and 2 small candles. Down to €15.

Lidl will have Christmas items in 2nd November, some look really nice https://www.lidl.ie/en/c/christmas-decorations/c1332/w2

Anyone know when An Post will bring out the Christmas stamps, as I suppose cards might be more popular than usual this year ?

Click and collect is free. This post reminded me that I could order from dunnes. Went on for a dressing gown for my son, click and collect. Somehow 3 tops for me ended up in the shopping bag too so free delivery now.

I hate when that happens :D

Unfortunately I don't have anywhere within 5km to collect from right now. Otherwise I definitely would. I'll wait til they get a few more bits in and spring for the 50 euro order, ha.

The 5km rule does not apply for shopping trips. Just do a food shop as well.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Or just say you’re going for a food shop. The guards won’t be following and checking.

Exactly, I mean why allow click and collect facilities like smyths etc if your not allowed to go there, I am to collecting a PS5 on launch day from smyths and its about 20km away from me, Me: Food Shopping Garda, Garda: Sure cant you just get it in your local store: Me: Not the dont sell gluten free food :-)

    Sorted!

I was under the impression the Gardai would tell you to shop in your area if you were travelling a distance for grocery shopping.

Lot's of places are open for click and collect and places are trying to launching similar and people will do it.
I think takw-aways will be busy this weekend.

Also, you can visit graves. My great Uncle is buried in Cork City and people are going to say they are visiting these graves.

People have gotten tired of this. The vast majority have no issue with masks, staying apart but are sick of these closures and just want to get back to some form of normality.

We have a SuperValu local but my neighbour shops in Lidl 17km away. I went once the last time and was nearly sick approaching the Garda checkpoint even though I knew I was allowed go to Lidl. They said it was fine.

Regarding grave visits being allowed, sure that could mean people can travel all over the country. It should have been specified as local graveyards even if outside a 5k radius. Surely they don't mean any grave. Our son and parents are buried over an hour away in a different county. I'd think it was taking the p*ss to say I was going there to visit the graves. Is it really allowed?

I'll be visiting my sisters grave before Christmas, around 150 klms away. I wouldn't go just for the spin this weekend unless it was a birthday or anniversary.

    From my understanding it's allowed.

I've noticed there's a good few places offering click and collect ad the list will continue to grow.
It's good to see businesses trying to adapt.

I wanted to get myself a personalised trinket dish and found a lovely seller on etsy called Sweet Satsumas...I figured if I was going to pay for delivery from the UK I may as well make it worthwhile so I got 4 that I'll put into Christmas presents:P.
I think it worked out at 50 for the lot.
I originally was looking only at Irish sellers but couldn't see any that took my fancy.

Nearly bought this in The Range as the pic on the box has a picture of it outside, but when I read the box it said indoor use only :( had a look on their website and it says indoors and outdoors so wouldn't know which one to believe.

    I did buy these though:

I'd given up on getting the Lego Christmas sets as I don't have the space to display them - I won a staff Christmas set in a raffle last year that takes up pretty much the entire mantlepiece - but I couldn't resist this years one - the Elf Club House

Arrived today at the same time as 24 cans of beer so that's the weekend sorted!

Hot chocolates for hubby and coffees for my sister's boyfriend :)

Just 1 more present to buy. I know what I'm getting but I'm waiting to see if they do any sales or free postage in the next few weeks ;)

I'm intrigued, are they takeaway coffee cups that you add water to? Or is the packaging just styled that way? :)

First boxes of sweets got; and due to L5 I decided to get the last cards online - none of the homeless charities seem to be doing them this year, google only finds references to Focus and Peter McVerry having done them in the past and Simon doing the donation in lieu of cards thing.

MS Ireland have what look like nice secular ones so ordered those.

Now, when are the stamps out?

I had ordered candles from Dunnes they are 'Golden Amber' scented ones. They are €4 and was holding onto them for teacher gifts. A match accidentally fell into one and I can confirm they smell fab,and look more than the money. Handy for a little gift. Can't find them online. But I'll definitely be picking more up.

Plan to get a voucher for a their local restaurant who are doing takeaway/collection, who knows they may be open in the new year for dining but if they are not they can still get a meal there.

Will buy on credit card so if the unfortunate thing happens (they go bust) you can get a refund via chargeback.

I'm a bit clueless. Can you explain the refund via charge back situation please? I use my visa debit for everything. I'm a big voucher buyer at Christmas and also receive lots. I have to admit I'm nervous about buying vouchers from smaller shops and restaurants so interested in this please

In a nutshell if you buy something with a debit or credit card there are international Visa and Mastercard merchant terms and conditions that must be adhered too and one of those is in the event a good or service is not delivered, then you can seek repayment from the bank of that merchant.

There's a few categories that you can claim under and this BOI form will give you an idea, every bank will have their own form but essentially they are the same.

    https://www.bankofireland.com/help-centre/faq/can-get-purchase-refunded-credit-card-debit-card/

To give an example, I didn't wait around waiting for Ryanair to refund me for cancelled flights due to COVID. I simply submitted a chargeback form and I got a credit back to my card in about 7 days.

In another example, when flybe the UK airline collapsed earlier in the year it meant we couldn't take the kids to Peppa World. As we paid for the flights by credit card i submitted a form and got a full refund via the bank - not as an unsecured creditor (wouldn't get anything if that was the case) of the airline.
