Nope just so conservative and when you add a conservative captain too....

myself and a friend have been talking about getting over for a couple of days of an England vs West Indies test next summer, kinda hoping in a way that there could be a change of captain in the offing for the test side but unless Joe really dirties his bib with a string of losses, which is unlikely when seemingly he’s playing for draws and the wins are bonuses.

Weather forecast has improved slightly but the chance of a result is still not favorable given the forecasted rain.

Bangladesh win a series against Australia for the first time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,839 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Mad, against a close to full strength Aussie side... had to double take that result when I saw it.

For Australia only loosing 4 wickets in their innings yet Bangladesh limited them to 117... beating them by 10 runs.

great to see other nations becoming more competitive, Bangladesh hammering Australia 3-0 so far, series wrapped up....Feels weird saying that !

England will want to pull level with India ie. put on first inning score ...another 43 runs minimum before loosing another wicket.

The weather forecast has slightly improved, rain is still forecast for the next couple of days but a lot less seeming then was so an outside chance of a result although I wouldn’t bet the house on it.

Root saving England once more, his innings probably ensuring England won't lose, draw still most likely result.

    Important final session now..

awful leave, second ball, wicket... poor judgement...Butler was starting to look set... a good delivery but whatever you do you can’t leave it...

Curran now with a lot to do to help England establish a competitive lead.

weather tomorrow should save the English though it’s not looking good for much play. Probably want these two to stick around though and the tail to wag tonight and get a lead of 200-220.... give them some peace of mind with the forecast.

That was a terrible review by India, the bowler was insistent but it was never out!

Yes, hitting about 4-6 inches outside off...

interesting to see Kholi putting his foot down with his bowler for overdoing it with the verbals and intimidation...gives Siraj the eyes and a few words..

great hundred by Root, 14 4’s ... 56 runs of that hundred in boundarys.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,220 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Siraj undoing all the goodwill he built up in Australia. Stupid sendoff of Bairstow and picking a fight with everyone.

England have rescued this well today. India will need this second new ball to work.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,839 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

India still have a chance with picking up Roots wicket. Root played excellently for his hundred. Shaking his head going up the stairs. He got a good delivery but will wonder about the wisdom of that shot really...

England in trouble... Bumrah on a hat trick to clean up England....Robinson played a poor shot to a decent delivery...Anderson plays a decent defensive push to a decent delivery no hat trick

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,091 ✭✭✭MFPM

So India need 209 to win, it's very doable but they need to bat better than the first innings and someone needs a big score. Great bowling by Bumrah, 5 wickets and 9 in the match. England were screwed without Root, they do have real issues in their batting lineup.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,220 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Robinson only needed one ball to look more threatening than Broad. Every over a bonus now with the weather.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,220 ✭✭✭Gillespy

India well on top now. Only losing one wicket for a quater of the runs is very good for them. KL needed a great delivery from Broad to dismiss him. He was scoring very quickly with Rohit digging in. Broad came back well and made a few chances with Robinson.

Weather the big factor now. Rain to lose more time bringing the draw in. Or overcast to aid England with more swing movement.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,839 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

rain in the main tomorrow from about 9.00 - 15.00

so say if the rain stops at around 15.00... playing by 16.00

India need 157 runs...it could be just about doable if the Indians go hard from ball one...

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,220 ✭✭✭Gillespy

That's not so bad. Hopefully it comes better and we get enough play. Runs came quickly this evening as England went searching a bit. KL put away a good few full balls. But also a lot of runs going down to third man. I remember Bob Willis and Botham always preferred a fielder there. Didnt like giving four runs for a mistake. In low scoring games modern captains should rethink that maybe.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,839 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

No third man rewards both low risk cricket and mistakes...

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,091 ✭✭✭MFPM

Rain looks like it's down for the day, it's a real shame. India were strong favourite but given some of the frailties in their batting line up you never know.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,839 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Yes, forecast indicated as of this morning that the rain would be stopping around now but it’s in fact coming down again as hard as it had done from a very overcast sky in Nottingham ... I’d say as of now, a result is pretty much 95% unlikely.....

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,220 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Draw it is. Shame there was no window for thirty overs to see them have a cut at it. Still four more to go starting on Thursday at Lord's. England got away with one, earned it maybe by Root's hundred. They will have to improve a lot with the bat to compete in this series.

Bangladesh setting Australia a very modest total of 123... but Australia struggling big time only 56/8 after 12.3

Bangladesh already with the 5 game series wrapped up but looking increasingly like they be taking a 4-1 victory over a first choice pretty much or close to it Australia side... I would say heads will roll if it end up Bangladesh winning 4-1.

    edit : 58/9 Holy fućk ! Gobsmacked.

edit #2 : 62 all out off just 13.4 overs.

    Bangladesh take the series 4-1.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,220 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Shakib having a bad day in the fourth game is the only reason it wasn't 5-0. Bounced back today though taking 4-9.

Australian depth isn't great. Saw that in England when they did lose 5-0 and almost went for 500 runs at Trent Bridge. All familiar names just not good enough.

Langer is on thin ice I'd say. He'll get to the Ashes but Ponting and Jason Gillespie calls are starting already.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,839 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

So England win the toss and bowl... they make 3 changes by my reckoning... just as Anderson reaches his mark the rain pours down. F@*&€. Commentators say blue sky is visible close to the ground but gray in play... hopefully we get going soon.

    play starts, perfect.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,220 ✭✭✭Gillespy

I wanted to see Mahmood play today over Wood. Not sure about Ali coming back especially with an eye on the Ashes after the nightmare he had there last time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,839 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

12 overs bowled, just 14 runs on the board. Robinson in particular has looked excellent, dangerous and probing and accurate...with every ball bowled. Run rate is 1.17.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,220 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Sam Curran has undone all that. Expensive few overs from him even if he created a few half chances. Indian fans must be in dreamland with the starts they're getting this series.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,839 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Curran going at about 5 an over.... he averages 2 wickets per test. Hmmmm

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,839 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Why when you need wickets is Sam Curran the first change ? Seriously, what kind of captaincy is that ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,220 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Just as well Virat can't win a toss as he said he would have bowled as well. What a position they're in now. KL outstanding again fully deserving his hundred.

Sam Curran looked so short and slow out there today. He's always like that but somehow gets the job done so you don't notice it as much. No threat at all this time, they waited for him to come on.

Mistake played Wood. Predictable, all effort and very fast yet doesn't get the wickets. Moeen bowled alright but again too many runs.

Great day for India, excellent batting by Rohit and Rahul has put India in a very strong position. Kohli falls a bit short again, his search for a Test century is 21 months now. Poor enough day for England, they're not out of it but if India push on tomorrow, it'll be very difficult. The England Test team seems to be really suffering from the ECB's emphasis on white-ball cricket.
