Been caught in the car twice now already with Christmas shoes...🤮 vaguely remember managing to more or less avoid it last year, 2023 is paying me back it seems.

Haven't heard Dolly's ditty just yet, thank f**k! Or Patsy & Elmo & their grandma getting run over by a reindeer... though suspect they're in the post!!

I have listened a couple of times but find myself changing channels when one of the songs I don't like comes on. There was a lot of channel switching last night on my hour drive. I have been listening since the start but I fear the accumulation of listening through the crap songs for the ones I like is wearing thin. I'm finding I like listening to maybe 20% of the songs. Other's have been flogged to death. Not Last Christmas though, never Last Christmas.....

To be fair, the mix I had on my drive to & from work yesterday was good, just 1 or 2 duds, the rest were fine.

Have a long drive later, so it'll be interesting to see what mix I get. Suspect I'll lose signal for the second half of the journey though.

Hard to argue with this list.

  • Registered Users Posts: 595 ✭✭✭dubstepper

Have to revise my bad review above. Having listened yesterday for an hour it was really good.

@Loughc Number 3 on that list is a bit contentious these days. I read that many Africans find the whole song a bit offensive.

Couldn't care less to be honest. Fantastic song wrote with the best of intentions and has done so much for the people of Ethiopia through the raising of money and awareness. If some people are offended these days then....f*** em.

Anyone finding the audio skipping on Christmas fm? Happens in my car but no problem with any other station

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,231 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

I can't understand the popularity of Taylor Swift. Time magazine really taking the piss choosing her as their person of the year.

Yeah I thought it happened once or twice yesterday morning.

I've noticed as I drive across the country the channel isn't automatically changing to alternative frequency's, the signal is staying at 105.2 (Dublin frequency) for the whole journey so I lose it altogether, even driving through Longford which has its own frequency it doesnt track & change. Last year it changed as I drove. The other channels (newstalk etc) still change but for some reason Christmas FM doesnt.

I've noticed no song information or suchlike is displaying this year either, vaguely remember it did last year.

Came on to post the same thing. Was happening at home with alexa so I thought it was our Internet or maybe the app but happening a lot in the car too. It disrupts my singing along ☹️

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,558 ✭✭✭Heroditas

I've noticed the song information doesn't appear on FM either but it does through Tuneinn

Also heard Marty Miller from Nova broadcasting earlier today!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,176 ✭✭✭Declan A Walsh

Marty Miller had turned up on Christmas FM a number of years ago, but I think this is the first year in a good while that he presented on it.

Haven’t heard Annie Lennon Winter Wonderland yet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,483 ✭✭✭✭DvB

Bizarre, heard it twice yesterday and on Saturday as well.

For me, I've yet to hear FONY since launch day... and it's not for the lack of listening time either!

Tuned in the past hour it can’t not but you in a good humour mood

@DvB I’m not getting to listen as much as I usually do I will have to do better 😀

I wonder if the Go Loud Xmas hits is hitting their listenership this year.

    It's ad free.

  • Registered Users Posts: 595 ✭✭✭dubstepper

I can't count how many times I've heard it. One day, it may have been on the presenter cross over, it was one twice in 5 songs!

Oh listen, i'm sure its a case of just missing it by seconds or suchlike here & there, I know well its a heavyweight & played regularly, its just for whatever reason so far this year I keep missing it. No doubt I'll hear it on the car trip home from work now 😀

Go loud Xmas was on last year too. There’ll always be plenty of competition for ears this time of the year but as long as ChristmasFM raises money for charity that’s the main thing.

I actually like the ads on ChristmasFM they add to the ambience. Otherwise just put together a playlist.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,483 ✭✭✭✭DvB

    Finally!!

WFH today & have Christmas FM on in he background since about 9am, currently playing FONY.

Cant believe this is the first time I've heard it in 2 weeks since launch day.

with increasing use of spotify for christmas playlists, smart speakers and devices with more choice etc, is Christmas "FM" as popular as it used to be ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 92 ✭✭Coupon King

Good question, I find I am playing my own Spotify playlists more this year and only dipping into Xmas Fm the odd time, theres only so much FONY Ed & Elton and Taylor Swift my brain can hack lol

It was mentioned in a previous post that Keith Shanley is not on the official schedule. Every year, one or two not on the schedule turn up on the station anyway, e.g. Marty Miller this year. Keith was on Christmas FM every year from its start in 2008 until last year. Has there been any sighting (hearing?) of Keith this year?

There are only a small number of people still with Christmas FM who have been involved since its very beginning in 2008. They would include of course the four principals Garvin Rigby, Paul Shepherd (aka Ray Jackson), Walter Hegarty and Daragh O'Sullivan. It also includes Noel Shannon, who I heard over the weekend and is on the schedule. Bernie Jameson shows up on Our Team but not on the schedule. She was involved from the start and was certainly involved up to last year. Did anyone hear her presenting? Is there anyone else still with Christmas FM going back to 2008. Declan Ralph is a case of "close, but no cigar" as he has been with Christmas FM since 2009!

They played it just after 7am this morning as well, I chuckled when it played thinking did DVB hear it.

Still no audio sighting of Keith Shanley this year sadly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,176 ✭✭✭Declan A Walsh

When did Karl Tsignidos first get involved with Christmas FM? He has been associated with the station for a number of years, but I don't think he was there from the start.

I assume this is a rhetorical question? Doubt there's many on here with your extensive knowledge of radio, let alone be able to answer the bits you may not know.

I understand Keith decided to step back this year. He’s gigging six nights a week in December so presumably that influenced his decision. Hopefully he’ll make a return next year. I think the presenters list needs updating as clearly there are some who aren’t on this year while others who are don’t get a listing. Seems to be a higher quotient of female presenters this year or maybe I’m just imagining it? I see Dee Woods is on the schedule for Wednesday continuing the Christmas/Nova crossover.

I think I've heard Dee a few times. I like her and Marty

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,483 ✭✭✭✭DvB

Love Dee Woods so hope to catch one of her shows, must check to see what time she's on at today in fact.

FONY was played again this morning at 7am, seems to be the go to song for the breakfast show at that time.

I just missed it so, got out of the car at about 2 minutes to 7! But heard it twice yesterday so all is good now.

Caught Dee Woods in the car on the drive home from the office, great stuff, She has a brilliant radio patter.

Hope she does a few more slots now.

Was this Dee's first year on Christmas FM? I don't recall her being on the line up before. I heard some of her show this evening, and she's doing a great job as always. Nice to hear her on Christmas FM.

Mike Moloney normally has the 4-7PM slot on Saturdays (Mike's Mince Pies), but he didn't do the previous two Saturdays. He is listed for this Saturday. He was normally followed by Mike Eastwood, who I don't think was on last year. He's certainly not on the line up this year anyway.

I noticed Keith Shanley's absence too. He's normally one of the first or the first voices on launch day, and has usually had the same time slots.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,483 ✭✭✭✭DvB

Think it is Dee's first year, definitely don't remember hearing her previously. She's a brilliant addition though.

I heard Dee Woods this evening. She managed to plug her day job in Radio Nova, including the commuter belt covered and the time of her own show!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,483 ✭✭✭✭DvB

Noticed her plugging herself & Nova too... fair play to her I say. Though I suspect she's pretty well known at this stage anyway given Nova's listenership & her prominence on the station.

So, the current Radio Nova/Christmas FM crossover is as follows:

    Dee Woods

    Marty Miller

    Emily Brew

    Lar Flynn

Paul McGuinness (not sure if he is still with Nova)

    and possibly:

Mike Moloney (former Radio Nova presenter) - he presented on Christmas FM online recently, but I don't know if he has been on since the FM launch.

EDIT: Gareth O'Connor - did a stint on Radio Nova as a sports reporter.

I found another name that has been there since the start - Fergal Mitchell. He does the 5am to 7am shift some weekdays and I don't recall ever hearing him on the station throughout its years!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,131 ✭✭✭pigtail33

Christmas Shoes is currently on. My first, and hopefully last, time to hear it this year.

I haven't heard Dolly at all this year, no complaints about that!

I only caught the end of the Bryan Adam's song once, I think that usually got more air play in previous years.

I'll be listening in a lot more over the next week, so I'm sure I'll hear all the songs I've missed and those I'm glad I haven't heard yet!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,483 ✭✭✭✭DvB

The one I'm definitely hearing most is that Ed Sheeran/Elton John one, easily in the lead for this years most frequently heard. Second to that would be The Christmas song by Nat King Cole, but thats one I dont mind hearing regularly being the cast iron classic it is.

Second on Ed Sheeran Elton John song it’s on every hour without fail. The royalties must be cheap 😂

I caught Fergals show a few times now and he’s very good!!

Yes! Ed Sheeran and Elton John, along with Lizzo's Someday at Christmas are two songs I have heard a LOT this year, on radio, TV and in shops.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,483 ✭✭✭✭DvB

There's always a few I.listen out for to be played at least once each tear and one of those got ticked off yesterday with Queens 'thank god its Christmas'

Still haven't heard any of Robbie Williams ones though.

Another frequently heard one is Greg Lakes, 'I belive in Father Christmas' have heard it ALOT in the last few days. Still havent heard Jona Lewie yet either with Stop the cavalry, have heard a crap cover once or twice but not the original.
