We were going to set a radio up and blare it across a yard so we could listen to it when we were outside working, no harm that it would have wrecked a few lads heads as well. 😄😄

I'm off on holidays for 10 days tomorrow, so I'll miss The Christmas FM special. I'll try to remember to put it on for a bit in the morning before I leave. Get me in the spirit!

    From the Facebook page.

Gifting Garvan and Goodwill Gareth are kicking things off from 7am tomorrow with the Best Brekkie Show in the World!

What song should they start with? 🤔

Whatever they start with I won't be adding to my records 😆

My weekday alarm doesn't go off until 7.30, and as much as I love Christmas FM, I'm not waking up half an hour early on a Monday morning for it. 😂

Not going to lie to you it was nice having it play in the car this morning to work. The jingles, DJs and music just all add to the magic.

Not sure how much longer I’ll play it today but still have it on now.

Similar, am heading out to a site meeting now & whilst its a little early for me for full on Christmas tunes, the jingles & DJ interaction make it special… might have a little listen later this afternoon when finished with meetings but that'll be it until they go live again in November.

listening to Mariah Carey all I want for Christmas while it’s sunny and warm. Strange? Yes.

    Amazing? Also yes

Have it playing in the background all morning so far, some fantastic songs as always and really cheering me up😀. Was waiting for some contractors to turn up, no show🤬 Maybe just as well or they would think I’m mad playing Christmas music 😀🎅🏻🎄

Have had it on all morning and I must say it has made a Monday morning enjoyable.

I agree it is weird with it being on while it is sunny and warm out😅

Have a great holiday @pigtail33, enjoy.

Had to make do with just having Christmas FM on in the office today but we are def going to buy a radio and set it up outside in work. Winter is too miserable not to!

Only had a few minutes this afternoon, but heard Peter Kay (Geraldone McQueen) and Andy Williams (my favourite!) so can't complain despite it feeling a little odd.

Still the jingles & DJ's making it worth it though!

    edit.

Just mentioned that they go live online again with DJ's on Nov.1st, delighted their sticking with that tradition (covid was good for something after all it seems!)

The DJ at 8pm confirmed the November 28th return to FM date.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 27,661 Mod ✭✭✭✭Posy

The DJ just now said they will announce when they're coming back later in the year on social media.

They are clearly not talking to each other. 😄

The presenter was Kirsty Hughes. She did mention that they will be broadcasting live online on November 1st and that the social media will have all the updates about FM frequencies and dates. I had listened to Christmas FM very briefly at different stages during the day, but I was listening longer last night. I turned it off at around 11:55pm when she played Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas. I am in the minority who find that song catchy in an annoying manner! I tuned in for the novelty factor. It was a clever idea marking the 100 day milestone.

As strange as it was to have to back for one day it’s strange not to have it today.

My only wish was yesterday wasn’t so sunny and warm took away from it. I couldn’t listen to it driving home from work felt wrong. I did tune back in when out walking the dogs as it was getting dark and it gave me a great sample of what’s to come!

I have to say the parts I did tune in were excellent the DJs were on great form and constantly interacting with the listeners. I don’t like the whole DJs back online Nov 1st as it’s more like a playlist and a few pre-recorded segments, yesterday was great it really felt like a Monday in December!

I meant to say as well that I was impressed with some of the random less played tunes thrown into the mix.

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 25,014 Mod ✭✭✭✭Loughc

Yes the playlist yesterday was excellent. I had it on in the morning from 8am-10.30am before I got annoyed and switched it off.

Caravan of love was the song that made me switch it off. Meh.

To be fair, when they go live online on Nov.1st it may start like that but it ramps up considerably as we edge closer to the FM launch day on the 28th. As i only dip in a little before the 28th that's usually enough to satisfy my cravings!

Meant to add, I did enjoy the mix of songs I heard across the time I listened in, but was surprised at hearing the same song 4 times, it wasn't even one of the regular bangers either!

Didn't hear FONY either which was good as I always hold that one off until I hear it on the FM broadcast for the first time (its usually the 2nd or 3rd song played every year after the formal launch)

Every year there's always one song that grinds my gears… wonder that this years gear grinder will be😀

I heard FONY twice yesterday! Still amazing as ever.

Agree, such a great song, terrified of diluting its novelty though, I love hearing it for just the 4 weeks around Christmas. Cant ever see myself not loving it.

Was flicking through stations in car radio yesterday and I heard something on Christmas FM, when I went back to it, there was a station coming up called Freedom FM. Haven’t heard of it, is it a new station broadcasting on the same frequency? Signal probably coming from mount Leinster

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 25,014 Mod ✭✭✭✭Loughc

Temporary stations tend to occupy those frequencies. I imagine it’s a 30 day licence.

Freedom FM is not new. It started as a Dublin pirate which operated from 1995 to 2003. In 2020, during the height of the pandemic, they came back as an online station. In 2021, Freedom FM operated its first temporary licence (30 days as Loughc said). They are on their fourth temporary licence run this year. It has often taken place shortly before the temporary license run for Christmas FM, and on similar allocated frequencies - including this year. It is not covering as much of Ireland on FM as Christmas FM will though.

Been a tough week this week, so when driving in to the office this morning at just after 6am would have loved to have Christmas FM there to cheer me up, looking forward to it kicking off this year now, I love the listen on the drive to & from work, its the longest spells I tend to get to listen to it once it goes live.
