Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. I'd cancel that order if you're able.

In general the top of the processor's lid spreads the heat and touches the heatsink directly and it's straight metal to metal contact, the thermal compounds are there to fill in the tiny gaps as the surfaces aren't 100% smooth so you'd have tiny tiny air gaps.

So when a normal thermal compound is used it's limiting the worst case scenario, so unless you're using something like liquid metal (do not use here) there's going to be no positive measurable difference on results.

I knew that brand from the below video, the one used in the below video was HY610 which is still about 30% better performance than the HY510 you ordered and that's if it's legit and not counterfeit where it could be anything.

I'd suggesting using MX-4 or any graphene based ones as it performs well enough and isn't electrically conductive so no need to be tidy and risk using too little.

Only cost about €2 so won’t really care about wasting money on it. Thanks for the heads up though, I’ll check out the MX-4 one, is the MX-4 the type of a paste or the brand? Noticed a few different people selling them online so would any of them do?

Arctic is the brand, MX-4 is the product name. It's the best non metal based one they sell.

When you apply it then the pressure of the heatsink will spread it out and if you use too much it might go somewhere it shouldn't but if you use too little it won't perform as well.

With the non metal ones it doesn't matter if you use too much as it's not electrically conductive.

Hey man, i bought Arctic MX-4 a few months back but when it arrived, I noticed I'd have to break the warranty seal on the ps4 so decided not to use it as i knew I'd be selling my PS4 before PS5. The paste and applicator are still in their sealed package and i could fit it in an envelope. Let me know if you want it and I'll post it to ya (if you're in Ireland), no charge.

I don't even want to think about keeping it in case the PS5 starts overheating.

If rumours are true you won't need to the PS5 is meant to use liquid metal so 10x the performance of any thermal paste and you'd not want to be taking that apart as it'd probably destroy the PS5.

That on top of the heatsink using a vapour chamber same as the ONE X and the Series X.

I’m gonna open it up first and clear all the dust out and see if that makes any difference, if it doesn’t I’ll try the thermal paste.

Anyone know if cex only want a dualshock controller when trading in or do you need to supply a charging cable? Thanks all.

If trading in the whole console, usb cable is needed. If trading in just a controller, then just the controller is needed, no cable. Source, i sold just the controller a few weeks ago and was told cable not needed. I asked about the console and what was needed for that also.

Do you need the box for controller only?

Nope, just stroll in with the controller, nothing else. They need to test out tough, depends on their testing backlog how long, could do it there and then, could be a few hours, could be next day.

    Asking for a friend:

His son's PS4 can take up to 20 minutes or so to load Minecraft. Not sure at what point it gets stuck trying to load (loading the game itself or loading one of the worlds he created or what).

It's a disk version of the game. I'm assuming the fix would be to delete the game, let it re-download the application/updates and try that. Anyone any experience of it?

How big is the HDD and how much space is left on it? can other games/screenshots of trophies be deleted instead to free up some space.

Not sure if the saves and worlds are tied to the profile or the playstation, but back them up as well, just so he doesnt lose any worlds and all that.

I think as well, depending on the world and how long he's been playing, that could be quite large and knowing the ps4, its trying to load in everything that he has already seen instead of caching the bits not currently visible.

From what I understand he only has the PS4 since last Xmas, and doesn't have a lot of games (Minecraft, Fifa, maybe one or two others) and they're all disk as he doesn't play online. I think it's only Minecraft too that this happens on. I was trying to think about my nephews and I'm pretty sure the same doesn't happen to them even though they've been playing longer, so I'm inclined to believe it's something to do with the application data rather than game/save data. But having no experience of Minecraft myself I'm not sure.

Good point about backing up the saves and stuff though, just to be on the safe side.

Games don't run off the disk, they just check the disk when you run the game. If the disc was scratched it would have failed earlier or timed out and not take 20 minutes.

Should be under a minute to get into a newish save.

On Reddit, there seems to be a fair few people complaining about this issue. Uninstall and reinstall seems to be the answer. Get him to back up his saves onto a USB drive if he doesn't have plus before doing it.

Going to keep mine in a second room.

I've so so many games that I've bought over the years and not played so it won't be like the PS3 which I currently have in room 2 which is a glorified Media box for Netflix, Prime and Sky Go.

I think I want to hold on to the PS4 til launch too, if only because of lockdown boredom and I know the trade in price will have died a death when the PS5 is out.

Struggling to decide whether to sell my PS4 Pro or not. It's the God of War edition so CeX will give minimum 250 for it. I feel like I might regret in the long term as I'm worried about backwards compatibility with the PS5. Also, I have PT on it so I don't think I'll be able to transfer that to PS5.

Just to let you know, PS4's with PT go for crazy money on eBay. You might want to look into that before you decide to sell.

That would be great but my account has a lot of digital games on it so I can't afford to lose it.

Any Ps4 Pro anywhere for sale in Ireland? None on Smyths, Argos, Harvey Norman etc..

Would like to purchase one ASAP, the a pro with 1TB.

Anyone know why absolutely none in stock? I assumed Ps5 coming out would be good few PS4 Pro out there?!

You'll definitely get a good deal from someone with some good feedback on Adverts with lots looking to clear it before the PS5 comes out, could get a decent bundle as well depending on what you like

Saw a few, I'd rather get one with a brand new warranty or least few months left. Just mad none to be found, I guess covid (more at home) has an impact..

Discontinued I assume with the PS5 release imminent. GameStop and CEX have used units for far more than they're worth. GS are looking for €370, €30 more gets you a PS5 :pac:

153mb game update and I lm still sitting here waiting after 20mins with 35% copied.

I dont think iver ever had a console that has wasted more of my time. Between game load times and this copying b****x its a s**t show. Id love to put a number on the time I've spent looking at twirling loading circles,im sure it would be way more than id like to admit!!

What the hell happened to the games updating in rest mode thing? Just doesn't work for me. Checked numerous times that I have it set up correctly but just doesn't happen.

Loads of PS4 Pro's on adverts wouldn't worry too much about buying 2nd hand you rarely hear of anything going wrong with them and most are just cashing in now because of the PS5's imminent arrival (myself included)

I'm bringing my Pro into GameStop after the weekend, I currently get €287.50 credit for it against my Series X order which will drop like a stone after the trade boost offer ends on October 1st. Can live without a PlayStation for a couple of weeks, still have an Xbox and the Destiny 2 expansions just became available on Game Pass.

A childhood spent trying to load Spectrum48 games, with incremental adjustments of the volume button, is the only thing that stops me complaining.

It has mixed reviews. I cleaned out mine, replaced the fan and reapplied the thermal paste. Was lovely quiet for a week or two, back to normal since. Now, it does take ever so slightly longer to get into jet engine mode, but it still gets there.

I did the same the first time and it was whisper-quiet for about a month. Then it got noisy again. Apparently you have to replace the thermal pads every time you open it up. So I did that the second time and it has been quiet since, nearly two months now.

Though the only reason I needed to do it in the first place is of because Dead by Daylight - loads of people have complained that the game makes their PS4s overheat due to unlocked framerate issues.

Many thanks...I bought one of these brand new boxed on fleabay for £100 (the Ferrari edition).

Perhaps not as well reviewed as the Logitech ones, but for the amount of use it'll get, it'll do the job.

Hi guys, my PS4 broke last weekend and got quoted a 135 euro to fix. It’s a first generation console and don’t think it’s worth it to fix at that price. My thinking is to buy a new PS4 in Smyth’s plus the avengers for 300 euro as I can get trade in credit of 170 for the PlayStation and 35 for the game to put against the ps5 in a few months. I was just wondering do you think the trade in price will go down by much once the ps5 comes out or should I just wait the few months for the ps5 to come out?

    They're overhauling the Trophy system.

    https://blog.playstation.com/2020/10/07/upcoming-trophy-levelling-changes-detailed/#sf238573815

Trophy levels will be recalculated and now go up to 999 instead of 100. Different tiers of trophies too, eg. three levels of Gold/Silver/Bronze worth different points towards levelling up.

Obviously, doesn't really matter, but at least there's some thought going into the whole thing.

Don't even know what level I'm at. I like collecting trophies but overall stats doesn't appeal to me. I know some trophy whores will love trying to get to 999.

So I eventually got around to cleaning out my PS4. I couldn’t find my Philips screwdriver so I just cleaned around the fan and tried getting inside with q-tips and spraying the compressed air in and so far it’s whisper quiet. Tried COD and PES which would usually have it sounding like a hair dryer, but I can’t hear anything even the mrs said so which is a relief :pac: it’s kind of worrying me though it wasn’t this quiet when I bought it :pac:

I'd expect it to go down, yes. Especially if there is a PS4/PS4 pro price decrease.
