Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What I can't understand is on a normal day Ronan is playing mostly requests from his loyal listeners so day in day out it's similar type tunes with an odd surprise thrown in, this sit in is like Ronan left on 2 weeks holiers and left his 25 year old nephew at the wheel with strict instructions and he has said feck that and decided to play what he wants, which is what I would do :D

A change from the same old same old patter and content is always welcome.

    100% agree...
the insufferable neil doherty. most of the acts he plays he hadn't heard of until their song appeared in an tv ad or in a nextflix series/film. or when he had to research them while working on the ray darcy radio show.

dont forget he'll play a song from the mamma mia soundtracks

Neil Doherty filling in this week. Do RTE just pull names out of a hat?

And you can't spare yourself by flicking on a Christmas movie like when he'd normally stand in.

Last week Michael Cahill: "The world cant have enough Phil Collins songs."

This week Neil Doherty: first track, Phil Collins (via Genesis).

Ronan cant come back quickly enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,603 ✭✭✭ford fiesta

Why does every fill in music presenter on RTE Radio 1 play Elbow: "One day like this" ?? ...

    ...Yawn

I thought Neil would of worn out that Imelda May single by now

"...no Joe, you rang me !..." A.Caller.

    That's for sure.

No chance of the lads playing a snippet of Music Box Dancer before the news.

Probably never heard of Frank Mills .

Although I'm not a fan of some of Ronan Collins stand in presenters.

But at least lately, RTE have been sensible financially and are using Permanent RTE Staff Presenters, not just celebrities like una healy and imelda may, which I'm sure would cost a fortune, per show.

...and yes I know Ronan himself is not RTE Permanent Staff.

Is Neil getting a backhander off Joe Duffy?

He must have mentioned him about 10 times now.

Each link he has mentioned Joe. He has even named the competition after him

I got the impression when he mentioning near the start it was two in a row in the slot after Joe not that it was two in a row directly after Joe

"Two in a row after Joe" mentioned before the angelus.

Never mind that. I can't wait for the moment when they wheel out Bruce's birthday cake. You wouldn't mind except it's not even a roundy one today

He is currently playing a song from Mamma Mia 2...sounds like one of those "Stars on 45" or "Minipops" covers from the early 80s.

As a longtime Bruce fan, I will cut him some slack for playing We Take Care Of Our Own and The Promised Land, songs that we rarely or never hear on Radio.

Thanks for the last two hours, Claire Byrne.

I'm sure she was well paid for it, Neil.

First plug for Joe Duffy's promo.

Since when did a "shout out" replace playing a request? Can we not just keep it old school...at least on this show.

    25. Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,237 ✭✭✭✭Losty Dublin

Robbie Williams, Dionne Warwick and ELO. He's clearly going all out on his last day.

Neil reminds me of the guy or a younger friend you might know....who you talk with about music/radio, to the lay man they would come across as knowing his stuff .......but is really a bluffer.

If Neil was not a resercher on Ray Darcy show...he would not be on the radio presenting his own shows or filling in for Ronan Collins.

Ronan back on Monday. Thanks be to God.

Didn't know he was a researcher on the farcy show. That explains a lot...

No Losty, it I’m thinking of texting in for the double roundy as that cohort seems to be the fan base.

Few bars of The Boys from the County Armagh maybe would be good.

Only if it's the version sung by Bridie Gallagher.
