Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

We'll build your PC for you

I thaught this would be a great idea to start a thread so users who are willing to build a PC for anyone in there area looking to have one built for them.
I recently decided myself to build PC's for free for any user of this site who. (only charge €20 to other people to stop them from exploiting the service and have me do stupid jobs)

So if your willing to offer to do it for someone post your location.
If your looking to have a PC builded for you then oviously just come onto this thread and see who's in your area.
My main reason for doing this (other than having it as a hobby) is so people won't have to pay HWVS €20 to build it for them.
While €20 isn't alot of money but HWVS have on occasion have builded PC's very sloppy (even tho usually they do a great job) plus they won't mount big CPU Heatsinks or install large GPU's for you not to meantion it dosn't include software installation.

Myself is located in Arklow, Co. Wicklow,
I don't drive so I cannot travel out of the town.

Really hoping other fellow PC builders on this site is willing to join me on this noble quest :)

PS: Please do not post any phone numbers or E-Mail addresses for obvious safety and anti-spamming reasons.

Can't imagine too many people would be interested in this but I'm around Rathgar if anyone needs help.

Also are we volunteering to spec the build to a price and also install Windows etc? Seems to me if someone couldn't even install Windows we could be signing ourselves up to the old "Support for life" role? I already get enough of that from my family :( If someone is willing to learn though I would be willing to go through it with them step by step?

probably pushing my luck here but any chance of putting this thread on sticky so the newbies can always find it?

I'd suggest or assume that it's totally down to the individual. Some might prefer to only build with parts they spec, while others might be happy to build anything but not get bogged down with the 'selection' side of things.

It's you offering to help the other person, so the ball is most defiantly in your court. As someone that would most defiantly avail of it, I know I wouldn't expect any 'after service support' or place any liability on the person helping me. However, I could be in the minority there, so a very valid concern.

probably pushing my luck here but any chance of putting this thread on sticky so the newbies can always find it?
Speaking as one of the newbies (wouldn't know the first thing about doing it myself), I can confirm there will be (at least some) demand for it. I'm not sure if the mods will feel it's potentially crossing a line (self promotion? advertising? etc), but it's certainly something I'd be keen to use and find very helpful. Hopefully it falls on the right side of the tracks and if not, that it might be reworked so that it could be done in some manner.

Along with the sticky suggestion, it'd be great to see it kept very on topic and little/no chat (ironic, I know - this should be one of the first deleted), with just the relevant details provided (maybe have it locked and only a mod can update entries? If one were willing to take on the extra work, it might end up requiring less effort than having to moderate a live thread?).

Maynooth, Kildare. Occassionally Rathfarnham, Dublin 16.

I'll build computers, including heatsink replacements, third-party coolers, etc. and I'll also do watercooling. I can do light modding as well - case silencing, anti-vibration, CCFL lighting, etc. - I don't own any powertools, so I can't do heavy case modding, but anything goes really.

I can also help with component choices as well as where to buy. Installing Windows, driver, BIOS updates, problems, etc. all that can be taken care of as well.

Building - and teaching, if wanted - would be free, though I wouldn't mind a tenner or so being thrown my way for troubleshooting, or a WC setup, as they can be a real PITA at times. ;)

If interested, feel free to send me a PM.

as myself i'm willing to build, teach as i do so, software installation and spccing out desktops =]

I think iggy best bet would be to PM someone close to you and when the build is done pop back and a little note of thanks would be great

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,692 ✭✭✭Dublin_Gunner

    In Finglas myself.

Anywhere North Central Dublin, or City Centre I'm available.

I actually (only today) installed Tusky's Corsair H-50 for him as Hardwareversand woudln't install it when building it for him.

This might be a little work for the OP but might I suggest that the OP has a list of areas around the country with the members offering their services in each?

Would mean people wiuldnt have to trawl through a ghread to find someone, but merely check the list? Obviously all dublin areas kept together, with maybe 'dublin11' or something beside the members name.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭IrishMetalhead

thnaks for the advice gunner when i get the chance i'll list all the areas covered with there username next to it
but i'm gonna give it some time first beings that we're only on the 3rd page now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,358 ✭✭✭seraphimvc

^ totally support what you said there DGunner. maybe we can do a fixed posting format from now on so OP can easily do an update in the main thread:

    (something like this?)
    Location: Co.Meath (Ratoath)
    Name: seraphimvc
Note: feel free to PM me if you need a hand :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭IrishMetalhead

exactly what i had in mind

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭IrishMetalhead

I'll be starting the list tomorrow if I get the chance and I'm just going to edit it onto the first post so I can just keep updating it.

I'm going to write it down in the following method:
    Location - Username - Page # - Post #

    Sound good to everyone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,692 ✭✭✭Dublin_Gunner

And have them grouped by county i assume?
Once again, great idea for a thread man.

    Great!

This will be a great resource for people wishing to avail of purchasing parts for FAR cheaper than a whole rig, but don't have the know-how to build it.

As I'm sure a lot of people do, I usually throw down a few nuggets of info while I'm fixing / repairing peoples machines.

Maybe this thread will spawn a whole host of rookie builders, learning from the more experienced of us :)

sure buildin is half the fun loike.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭IrishMetalhead

it sure is but unfortunatly alot of people don't know how to do it nor they have the confidence to do it either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,928 ✭✭✭VenomIreland

    Newcastle, Co. Dublin.

I've only built 2 PC's from the ground up (I have dissasembled and remade several more though) but I'll help spec or put together a PC for anyone in my local area and I don't expect anything but a thanks in return for it (but if you do want to give me a tenner or so I will happily oblige ;))

EDIT2: Oh yeah, I'm too young to drive, so any parts to be assembled would have to be dropped up

Big thanks to Irishmetalhead who built my Pc for me yesterday. He also had a spare copy of Windows 7 which he very kindly gave me.
    Much appreciated.

I’m in Blanchardstown and I drive. At the minute I’ve built one pc for my brother and soon to be building another one for myself.

I done a year in IT and customer care last year and at the moment im in Coláiste Ide doing Pc maintenance progression. We have a hardware essentials class, where we practised building and breaking down machines. For the exams we had to build a Pc and write up a manual on how to do it.

Oh and of course, if there's driving well then the petrol money is needed and after that I wouldn't be looking for money, not unless it gets into like hours of work.
