Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Bakkali signed for valencia also, apparently a massive idiot with a ton of talent and was told by psv to fcuk off to their reserves basically iirc.

And even at the reserves they didnt want him.

Had a few decent matches 2 years ago in the early stages of the season. Thought himself he should be in for the ballon d'or that is how brilliant he thinks he is.
Also his "environment" playing a less than good role. Agents, family.

Guy has/had talent but all the extra baggage he ll bring with him....

He ll be ending up like El Hamdaoui, Aissati and the likes. **** loads of talent but **** mentality.

Huntelaar has been transfer listed by Schalke apparently. He doesn't fit the system their new coach wants to use.

    That's brilliant. What a life.

He has earned over €2m at City since 2012.

Maybe he is a good influence on the younger lads though. Probably worth the money if that is the case, but I know nothing about him.

One would imagine he has some sort of goalkeeper coaching role there. It makes sense too from the club's perspective. What's the point in having a third choice keeper just sitting on the bench and never getting a chance to play? Might as well hire a much older and experienced one as a player coach. Two for the price of one, so to speak.

Van Wolfswinkel back to Sporting Portugal.
    Clubs reached a deal.
Now Van Wolfswinkel has to come to a deal with Sporting.

And Ángelo Henríquez permanently off to Dinamo Zagreb.
He played there last season already on loan from Man Utd.
    Scored enough goals there too

No big transfers. But for early July the Premier League's been busy enough.

£29m for Firmino to Liverpool is fairly chunky to be fair.

    Turan to Barca confirmed.

So will he basically be a bench player behind Messi, Neymar and Suarez?

Wow did not see that coming at all!

Given the money they've been quoted as paying I'm sure they so him being heavily involved.

Possibly but whos he going to replace? Hes one of my favorite players but isnt good enough to start regularly for Barcelona imo.

I'd presume he'd rotate with Rakitic and Iniesta a fair bit too.

He'll get plenty of practice sitting on his arse during games until January anyway.

Is it me or has it been a pretty quiet transfer summer so far?

It was... until Damien Duff signed for Shamrock Rovers.

Turan will rotate with Iniesta and Rakitic. It'd be hilarious if barca imploded in the first half of the season and all the January players had were dead rubbers to play in.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

Arda Turan is quality, he adds fantastic depth to the squad and expect to see him figure more in midfield, in particular Iniesta's position rather than as part of the front three.

I like Arda Turan, it's a great boost to the squad, however I can't help but feel sad at what is happening. The desecration of La Masia at the hands of this board. Gone is "today for you, tomorrow for me" it seems we are now in an age where Barcelona have adopted a mini galactico policy. Short term this signing helps the first team squad, short term this again weakens La Masia, long term this hurts the club.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,578 ✭✭✭✭Turtwig

How has la masia been desecrated? Cesc Thiago Rafinha Munir Adama bartra montoya. Maybe not the elite tier to be starters in the current side but they all have potential to walk into a decent quality side in europe. Barca b had woeful coaches this season. Not sure you can really apportion all the blame on the board.

I can and I absolutely will. Are you actually referencing Thiago, and to a lesser extent Cesc, in an argument in which you are trying to say that La Masia isn't being desecrated? The story of Thiago Alcantara is a prime example of how this board has abandoned the Masia. Every single person in the club, every single person that knows the club knew that Thiago Alcantara was the best footballer La Masia had produced since Messi. Hailed as "the gem of La Masia" no less, he was a sure fire bet for first team greatness. This board did everything they could to sell him, they offered him to all the top clubs in Europe, they failed to reach the minimum amount of game time needed to trigger the higher release clause in his contract, Pep knew the situation and got him quite easily.

I'm not sure why you've randomly named players especially when 3 have left the club and the rest are either bit part players or with the B team. Adama Traore is another example, this guy is remarkable, he should be in the first team squad already but his progress is being halted.

I don't think you understand what I'm saying. It used to be that if your squad needed a player you looked to the Masia first and the squad would be bolstered by the odd marquee signing. Now it seems that its only signings that bolster the squad and that nobody is looking at the Masia for players.

Just looking at the ins for Brentford so far. They are a true hipster club.

    Ryan Williams (Morcambe)
    Konstantin Kerschbaumer (Admira Wacker)
    Andrea Bjelland (FC Twente)
    Yoann Barbet (FC Niort)
    Akaki Gogia (Hallescher)
    Besar Halimi (Stuttgarter Kickers)

Brentford is moneyball in football. Players signed to add specfic elements to the team etc. Very interesting club at the minute.

Yep, I remember reading an article just after they were promoted about their owner and how he runs things.

Halimi is supposed to be a big talent. No idea who any of the others are though.

Bjelland was decent at Twente. But on too much money for Twente who are in deep **** financially.

The transfer window as seen through the media looking glass is broken

from the guardian transfer gossip mill
That, at any rate, is what the Mill has deduced from reports that Bayern Munich have grown so desperate to get their clutches on Di María that, in return, they are willing to offer Manchester United a large sum of cash, Arjen Robben and Thomas Müller! And some reports go so far as to claim that the German club may even throw Bastian Schweinsteiger into the deal, too! Heck, if United stand their ground they may even be able to get Bayern to add Manuel Neuer, Pep Guardiola, a fleet of BMWs and the Hofbräuhaus.

Presume they are breaking wage structure for him, clearly happy to work with Pards again. Seems odd how his stock has dropped, was wanted by lots of clubs before moving to PSG and now Palace get him?

London based definitely helps their cause. He can probably leave family in France(if he has family that is).

Asamoah Gyan going from Al Ain to Shanghai SIPG.
€20 million fee and he ll be earning €1 million a month.

Could have a decent career in Europe but choose the big money in the desert and now China, as he admitted himself.

Kramer of ADO de Haag also admitted there was just 1 reason to leave Den Haag for the desert, money.

More respect for just saying so than for the likes as Xavi who apprently went to Al Sadd because the "project interested him".
Same as Hiddink who went to Anzhi because the project there interested him. Nothing to do with the millions they receive for being interested in "the project"

Beckham, Robbie Keane, Raul, Pirlo, Marquez, Eto'o, Defoe, Lampard, Gerrard, Matthaus, Henry.. List is endless, can't blame a player for wanting one big last paycheck.

Also a bit naive to expect players to say they're just going for the paycheck, don't think it would wash well with their employers, team-mates or fans, regardless of whether or not it's true.

Difference being that most of the guys you name there, went to the USA and i can actually believe it when they, for a part at least, go there because they are interested in living there.

Those desert clubs cant be that stupid to think the likes of Xavi are coming over there for anything else than the oil dollars.

And i dont blame them for going for that money but just be honest about it. Like Gyan and Kramer just did.

I know it is the thing to say, even for us the one that have to go for normal jobs to get food on the table, during interviews that you want to work for company X because they are best thing ever and all that kind of non sense of challenges and scrap.
It usually comes down it is because they pay you more than someone else, that is why you go.

    TL;DR
Dont mind them picking up a big check day but just say the big check is the reason why you go where you go.

Doesn't matter if it's the USA, Qatar or China, they were all going for the money and nothing else. USA is just more of an attractive destination than the other two. And if you think the players that go to the MLS, Q-League and Chinese Super League are going to make a public mockery of them by admitting the reason (no matter how obvious it is), then you're deluded.

Would Pirlo not get more money if he declared himself available for a premiership side?

Tbh I don't really know the figures and what he would get from Premier League clubs, but would imagine it wouldn't be nearly as good as what he's getting from NYCFC.
