Not so much a transfer as such, but Phil Neville has been appointed assistant manager at Valencia.

That would be an unbelievable bargain.

Wasn't that proven to be a load of bollocks? The English papers like the Metro were quoting this guy's Twitter. Just goes to show how easy it is to spread a football rumour

No this is Cadena Cope. Spains most reliable media outlet apparently, using their own sources. That one was South American, still hilarious though!

I find it hard to believe Madrid or United wouldn't pay double that

One of the best midfielders you could get

This Vidal thing is one big lie!

Iirc, a similar figure was banded about a few months back and it said United would pay.

Half wonder is there a release clause or something funky going on for him to go that cheap. Fair play to Arsenal if true. Would be shocked if there wasn't other teams after him too.

If there was a release clause that low and he wanted to leave every major club in Europe would have a bid in for him because his agent would be telling them all about it.

It's a lazy hack story to fill inches.

Its not the £12m offered last year but still  :)

I see Liverpool are linked with Swedish left back Ludwig Augustinsson who recently said:
"Some players go for such sick amounts of money in England and is a bit more expensive than what they are worth."

He'll hopefully join their Transfer Committee :P

    Mustafi linked to Madrid.

What is the deal with Borini? I've seen him play a few times and he's looked pretty ordinary imo. They only thing he seems to manage to do is score against Newcastle from the bench. 8 million is a lot for him really...I mean Liverpool don't even want him? There's no haggling in England anymore, the prices have gotten out of control altogether

He's still only 24 and I think people forget that because he's been around forever.

Premier League experience etc aswell, I mean it's still a bit on the high side and Liverpool will be happy to get those funds for a player they don't want, but it's not outrageous either.

Saw him play a good few times for Sunderland. He is a decent player, he was a big game player for Sunderland.

The trouble is I think he reckons he is better than that level himself.

Lucas now linked with a move away,I reckon Liverpool have spent the Sterling money and are now clearing out what they don't want.

Cheaper than Benteke. So much of a no brainer, you can expect Liverpool to not even place a bid.

Hope Liverpool do go with Lacazette instead of Benteke in the hope he stays with Villa, but Benteke would be the much better signing.

    Why do you say that?

Lacazette had 27 league goals last season. I'd have him over Benteke any day of the week

EDIT: Some muppet has edited Lacazette's wiki page to show current club as Liverpool  why would you bother?

Lacazette has just had one season at that level, in a weak league, with no PL experience. That makes him a massive risk.

15 the previous season though, shows improvement I suppose

I'm not saying I wouldn't take Benteke - I do think he could do well but Lacazette seems the more exciting prospect

Grass is always greener and all that. Benteke is a much safer bet.

    Sounds like complete bull****.

Unless they're about to go bust, there's absolutely no reason for them to go back on what they've been saying all summer.

Well apart from that one act when he scored from the bench against Newcastle, he also scored against them in the return fixture. He also scored in a cup QF, SF and final. In terms of our 'Great Escape', he also scored the winning goal against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, the 2nd goal against Cardiff to put the game to bed and the 2nd goal against West Brom to confirm safety. He also had a couple of assists in this period too. He was playing as a wide forward who was required to play quite deep and not in his favoured role as the main striker.

Borini made a poor career choice last season in staying put when Rodgers couldn't have done any more to make it clear that he wasn't wanted anymore, but then again I can't really blame him for backing himself to break into the team and give it one last shot with Liverpool considering they had Champions League football.

While not a top player, he's better than pretty ordinary IMO. Overall, I think he's a very good player for someone at that mid-table Premier League level. Liverpool paid £10.5m for him and he has 2 years left on his deal, so they're not going to let him go for pennies despite him being surplus to requirements. I think if someone signed him for £5m-£8m and he was willing to play as a wide forward in the right system, they'd have made a very good signing.
