Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Some posts across various threads indicate lower speeds than Vodafone but because there's so few PM customers it's difficult to get real world testimony of PM performance.
Part of that might be due to older phones. I'd imagine VF customers would spend more on their phones.

Could be due to different bands or better antennas on newer kit.

Unless they are doing what Three did to the O2 customers they inherited

How's your data speeds and reception?

Just checked there, in a suburb of Galway its fluctuating from about 5mbps to 43mbps (I've checked it 5 times in last few minutes I got 4.6 once but every other time has been above 9, got 26 and also 43).

    TheDriver wrote: »
    Can I ask what steps/timelines?
Order online, put in your phone number, pay nothing?
    How long to arrive?
When it did arrive, did you have to email to port the number?
Now it's working, do you have a month free after porting?

Ordered on Friday the 6th - got the sim card Monday morning, emailed them Monday afternoon, got the call yesterday (Tuesday) to port. The port started about 2 hours after and I lost signal for maybe 20 minutes.
Had no mobile data until I followed the steps in my previous post.

I haven't paid anything so I assume I have the first month free yes, I need to set up a direct debit.

Thanks. Sounds like the best method is probably going into a post office if they can do it all there and then.

Virgin Media have the €5 a month for 6 months unlimited sim offer back again.
Then 25€ after, but can cancel at any stage after 30 days.

What is the coverage like with Virgin Media? Currently with Eir and having no issues, only that I'm being charged €30 a month!

Some people are still paying crazy payg rates.
I am switching my dad to 48 and I'll check their coverage when I join him up for myself.

If you are moving to a 3 mnvo you may as well join 48, €7.99 a month for life for 100GB data and unlimited national calls and texts. Use a referral code to sign up and get a free month also.

Tis grand generally around Dublin. A little bit of while for YouTube videos to kick in. But fine for Netflix/zoom/WhatsApp calls.
Not super fast .... But grand

I'm just not seeing your point.why you would stick with a more expensive deal because you can buy credit in a store for it. Buying a membership or additional credit on 48 is very straight forward and as you can only use what you have bought you cant get bill shock.

Move to Gomo so, everything the same as you have with Eir for €12.99 p/m

What's postmobiles performance like? Is it as good as Vodafone?

Edit: Read the other posts here on a larger screen. Might be worth a punt to jump and try it

Correct, anyone with a recent report (since they went on 4G) suggests same reception but less data speeds than VF but still more than adaquete. Deal would suit someone where the gomo or 48 deal doesn't suit in terms of service.

Just received a free sim today. No info with it on how to swap my old number to it. Can't register for the online portal cause they didn't give me the phone number on the new sim. Anyone know how to port?

From a poster a few pages back, you have to email them and they'll ring you to arrange the port and activate the sim

I had put my number in too but my old sim still works and it's not swapped over

EDIT: Ended up calling customer care and they're swapping my number over now. Nonsense that they don't have an online portal to swap numbers like most carriers have

I put the sim in the phone and called the wife, number came up on her phone. Was able to register then.
I got an email later in the evening with the phone number and links to top up.

They're such a small operation that online porting etc isn't worth setting up.

New number works out of box, the only way to get your old number transferred is to call Post mobile support. I had to wait for nice (no pun intended, switch was made in less than 10 minutes) Indian guy to answer the phone for 40 minutes :-((( With 48 before and now, Post has no advantages to justify 2X price (in my personal experience and opinion).

I've spent 10 minutes talking to support guy (all the checks etc.) and after I had wait for ~30 min for actual switch to happen: my old 48 SIM card stopped working and the same moment new Post mobile SIM kicked in (I had to set new APN settings manually to get internet working later). Simple except 40 min waiting for someone real to talk to :-)

Moral of the story...go to your local post office and sort new sim and port there. A lot quicker

If you search the Comreg compare site...
    https://www.comreg.ie/compare/#/services

....here's the detail for this plan...
    3000 other network texts
3000 minutes of other-network and landline calls
    300 minutes of same-network calls
    300 same-network texts
    512.0 GB data

It also mentions FUP of 50GB so 512GB seems to be what they've informed Comreg to be the actual cap to meet the 'unlimited' description or maybe it's a typo?

This PM plan isn't great for streaming which is probably a good thing the 50Gb is plenty for users who have wifi at home.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,462 ✭✭✭✭AndrewJRenko

This new offer isn't available to existing PM customers, so that's the reason I need to head back to my old friends in 48, or maybe to GoMo.

    Yep

Strange way to do business. Would surely only encourage people to move from them to the more competitively priced 48 or Gomo... Particularly as they have so few customers in the Irish market overall as is.

I was with 48 for years when they first launched, and it was fine for me. A family member who would be a heavy phone user is still with them.

Yes, apart from not being able to text some free competitions(50100,50400) I've seen no difference between this and my work sim from 3. My speeds and signal at least have been identical.

Strange indeed. If u really want to stay, then port to a free eir and port back. But not nice customer care

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,582 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

I got my SIM in the post. In fairness, the dispatch email does state what to do when you receive the SIM.

Rang customer care, answered in about 5 mins. Nice lady took my details and did the port.

As expected, excellent reception/coverage. Data speeds are indeed not the same as vodafone but I am pulling 30Mb when VF might be 50Mb.
I had to add the APN manually. I gather from the agent that this issue will always happen on first use.

If you delete the APN and then select 'Reset to Default', does it set APN correctly or just do nothing?

It goes back to the 2 vodafone ones strangely (neither of which works in case anyone is wondering). Postmobile one disappears

Maybe it's retained in settings if a Vodafone SIM was used in the phone before.
