Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Valve did say they weren't making the same mistakes they did with Half-Life 2 where they showed it to the public too early and it ended up getting delayed by a lot.

So they printed t shirts and made the game available to staff on Steam?

GTA 5 is also sure to be one of the top selling games of all time, and they already have a teaser trailer out, no mention of a release date yet, but they've already started publicising the game and will keep it up until release. Do you really think they wouldn't publicise the game if its that close to being finished? Do you think any publisher would be ok with investing millions in a game and not trying to market it?

I don't believe for a second it is nearly ready, but Valve are their own publsher so they could technically do whatever they hell the like, after all on the face of it creating tonnes of free DLC for your games is pretty stupid from a business perspective isn't it?

Surely the fact that were are discussing an unannounced sequel to an 8 year old game which we are not even certain exists, shows that the marketing would pretty well write itself :)

If they are testing the game on Steam with a full achievement list available then it must be nearly finished

I've seen quite a few games have achievements lists leaked before they went live. Radiant Silvergun had an achievement list leaked years ago iirc.

    Before the game was announced?

Which would be the reason it is called a leak.

Even though I know this whole thread is about nothing more than some bloke who printed his own t-shirt, I still have to check back every hour or two "just in case".

    Damn you Valve !!!

Proof that Valve don't need to advertise HL3. All they have to do is say "Uh, yeah, it's out in 3 months" and the internet will be nothing but HL3 until then!

I only hope that by the time it does come out i have enough for a new PC because it will definitely have to be a PC game, console just won't cut it.

Didn't the ever expanding Gabe not say that the Half Life ep games were, essentially, HL3?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought he waffled about episodic gaming and how it would mean less time for us to wait between games. I was sure he specifically talked about 3 episodes a few months apart each followed by HL3 meaning the gap from episode 3 to part 3 would be shorter than the usual time between games. I thought this whole assumption that the next release is HL3 was pure speculation. I mean it wouldn't surprise me at all but officially the next release is supposed to be episode 3 of HL2 is it not?

pretty sure I read thast they'd given up on an "episode 3" and the next game would be a full number of its own

i think I did read that they were considering eps 1/2 as "hl3" as well but.. i dunno if that would make much sense. If they jump straight into Half life 4 it would mean a lot of confused people.

More chances of the Public Sector being reformed and the banks being held accountable than HL3 coming out anytime soon tbh. ;)

No matter how hard I try, I just can't stay mad at Valve for taking so long. I mean, pretty much everything they've ever released has been pure gold.

Half Life 3 announcement at the VGAs tonight. It better be gameplay and not some lame teaser.

It'll be Gabe Newell reenacting the trololololololol video.

I just do not care at this point. Its like Duke Nukem forever, it'll be put off for so long, no one will care when it comes out.

it's like duke nukem forever except that you'll actually cream your pants when you see it.

actually it's not like DNF at all really.

The big difference of course is that while DNF ended up being an obnoxious, badly-designed throwback created in a hurry after Gearbox bagged the IP, the worst HL3 could be is average. Valve are a rare developer in that they have the wriggle-room and money to build the games they want to create.
