    bit late here to this

my first vote is for planes trains & automobiles, just because it feels more christmassy:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,421 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

    I vote for Gremlins.

I really like train, planes....but is it a Christmas movie, also not a fan of Steve Martin. Still a great movie, but Gremlins edges it for me due to the theme.

    Gremlins. Great childhood memories!

Gotta give it to the gremlins, great film

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,451 ✭✭✭ZV Yoda

Has to be Planes, Trains & Automobiles.

Gremlins hasn't aged well at all, whereas Planes, Trains & Automobiles gets better every time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,994 ✭✭✭c.p.w.g.w

Planes, Trains & Automobiles... despite being a Thanksgiving movie, it ticks all the feel good boxes of a heartwarming Xmas movie...oh and it has John Candy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,696 ✭✭✭Pretzill

    Late to this :)

I'd vote for Trains...eventhough it is possibly one of the most frustrating movies I have ever watched it has far more of a Christmassy feel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 727 ✭✭✭Morpork

I vote P,T&A because it has more of a Christmas feel good mood for me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,404 ✭✭✭✭sKeith

trains planes & automoboles is not an xmas movie, it's a thanksgiving movie, so it has to be gremlins as the only xmas movie of the two.

Edward Scissorhands, it's a fantastic film and feel good Christmas. Also I've never seen nor had the desire to sit down and watch Love Actually.

Love Actually all day long. Bill Nighy is fantastic in it and even though Professor Snape is a dick in it and Martine McCutcheon is considered fat, it’s still pretty heartwarming.

  • Registered Users Posts: 657 ✭✭✭irishejit

Edward Scissorhands......contradicting myself from my last vote as it isn't really a Xmas movie either, but Love Actually is such pile of steaming unmentionable, to utter it in the same breath as our Edward should be a paddling offence

Love actually it was it all love and Christmas and that Mariah Carey song not to forget Bill Nighy what a wonderful actor and played his character to perfection.

Remeber Chris-mas is all around you

    Round 1, Match 6
Love Actually gets my vote because it is an enjoyable multi-layered comedy. Also, yet again, I have not seen the other...although I have heard it!

Omg boards is acting the maggot and I couldn't get back in here. LOVE ACTUALLY cause I ACTUALLY LOVE it. It's probably my favourite Christmas movie. Or definitely top two!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,454 ✭✭✭mloc123

Edward scissorhands... had never considered it a xmas movie, but better than love actually

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,433 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

Love actually cause it’s an actual Christmas film

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,882 ✭✭✭tusk

    Eddie for me please.

It's a fantastic tale of how christmas spirit can overcome even the scariest of demons

    Great feel good Christmas movie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,421 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

    I vote Love Actually

I never saw it but I know someone who actually loves it. Also, Tim Button, get out, except Beatlejuice and Batman, you can get in, but not at christmas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,882 ✭✭✭tusk

    Tim Button :D

    Buh bye Edward Sissyhands :P

At least this match, I think, won't have any arguments about whether they're Christmas movies or not, Round 1, Match 7 (It's also a Tim Allen showdown - that's the way the rand happened!!)

    The Santa Clause (1994)

    gn-gift_guide_variable_c.jpg

    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111070/

When a man inadvertently makes Santa fall off of his roof on Christmas Eve, he finds himself magically recruited to take his place.

Stars: Tim Allen, Judge Reinhold, Wendy Crewson

    v

    Christmas with the Kranks (2004)

    christmas-with-the-kranks.jpg

    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0388419/

With their daughter away, the Kranks decide to skip Christmas altogether until she decides to come home, causing an uproar when they have to celebrate the holiday at the last minute.

Stars: Tim Allen, Jamie Lee Curtis, Dan Aykroyd

Both pretty good but The Santa Clause definitely edges it for me. So funny and it has aged really well.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,136 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

    Santa Clause.

Not sure if I can use the term better here but it's less sh1t out of the two.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,421 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

    I vote the Kranks,

Probably the best Christmas movie in recent years. Although I don't really like Tim Allen but I can't use that excuse this time.

The Santa Clause, is a really heartwarming movie gets my vote

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

I actually like both of these, but I guess for childhood nostalgia alone it will have to be The Santa Clause, as that whole trilogy is actually pretty decent.
