Stranger Things? IT? Both with groups of kids that could be mistaken if you just saw part of it

What was it about? What year did it appear to be made?

I'm (re)watching goonies now and all I can think is that I must have watched the original recently as its all very familiar even after more than 30! years.

I must be confusing it with some other recent kids film but can't think what it might have been. Chances are I'd either have the DVD or a copy on HDD of what I was getting mixed up with and I've searched through and can't find anything?

Only other thing I can think of with kids is Super 8 but I don't think it was that. I somehow convinced myself that whatever it was was a remake/version 2 of an old classic but I'm starting to think I was wrong.

Hi. I recall a movie (almost certain it was from the 1980s although possibly from 1990/91). It contained a few stories. One story involved a beast/monster inside a wooden crate in a building. Any idea, guys? Cheers.

1970's made for TV movie or episode of something, only vaguely remember the ending. Set on a yacht, story centres around this small statue which I think is cursed. Several people on the yacht want the statue because its valuable. The yacht goes on fire, there are a number of shots of a black cat. The very final shot is of the statue slowly floating to the bottom of the sea, there was this creepy soundtrack with singing/chanting during this final scene, vaguely reminiscent of that heard in the opening credits of Children Of The Stones.

I was watching Lethal Weapon 2 and at the end there is a fight in an empty ship cargo hold. It got me thinking of a fight scene in another movie in a ship cargo hold filled with grain. Probably another 80s or 90s action movie but I can't think of it. Anyone have any ideas? It isn't the silo scene in The Quiet Place. It is a much older movie.

There's a grain silo scene in Witness, but not a ship cargo hold...

I remembered it was Tommy Lee Jones in the fight which quickly led me to remember it was US Marshalls from 1998.

I could be wrong about the actor and the title rings no bell but that could still be the one.

AKA 'Mercy Mission -The Rescue of Flight 771'.
The scene I remember most is the passengers in the Air NZ plane looking out for him. Based on a true story apparently.

I have a memory of watching something on Irish TV in the 1990s, of a child on their own, approximately 7 or 8 years old, climbing through a bleak looking electric power substation. It was a tense mood with ominous music in the background. The substation was huge, looked like the picture I've linked below but bigger. I think the start of the scene was a close up of the boy, and then the camera zooms out to show the full size of the station.

It comes back to me everytime I pass one of these stations but I can't quite remember what it was. Was there an ad on tv like this? Does it ring a bell for anyone else?

**Ah sorry Mods, I just saw there's a sticky for these kind of things.

There was an ad to was of dangers of climbing them where the kid was climbing up one to retrieve a frisbee and got electrocuted. Dont know if that is what you are thinking of.

yeah that was scary as a kid and the 'where's Grandad?' one as well which also had the little lad drowning in the barrel or the other one with the toddler drowning in the paddling pool in one inch of water while the mother is on the phone

okay so I saw this movie years ago. It was a French film about guy in prison and one of the guards is an assh*le to him. When he gets out, he tracks the guard down for revenge but the guard has gone blind and he ends up becoming part of his life. The guy who played the guard iirc is a respected French actor and (again iirc) has kinda ginger wooly hair.
Been driving me mad for years.

Was it a TV series called "The Pretender", by chance? The actor you mention sounds like Patrick Bauchau, who also played in "Carnivàle".

Could've been a remake of the film you're thinking about.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 671 ✭✭✭Plopsu

Sadly not Jean-Paul Belmondo or Patrick Bauchau. There is kind of a remake of the movie (or more likely rip off) where it was turned into an erotic thriller called Payback.

hope someone can help with this:

i remember only two scenes, the first involves the two main characters having an argument, one is scared of the other, whilst the scared one is trying to be nice, the other character knowing the scared one is going to double cross him begins leaning on his shotgun, deliberately pressing the barrels into the muddy field there in, blocking the barrels. He then says that they are friends again and hands the shotgun to his friend and turns his back. And of course the friend turns the shotgun onto the others back and fires causing the shotgun to explode and kill himself.

The second scene is from the films ending, the remaining main character is on a roof (repairing it) with another when a posse shows up in the distance. The owner of the house turns to the character and states it was not him that turned him in, he replies that he knows it wasn't and ushers him inside whilst he awaits whats coming.

Its not an outright Western, I think it sets within 1890-1920. The original two main characters were on the run from the authorities. I remember watching this with my dad in possibly the early 80's. He deceased now, so cant ask him.

    Thanks.

I've got almost no info on this, so apologies in advance.

All I can remember is that there's a guy on a train and he has to fight off loads of bad guys with a samurai sword or similar. I would've seen this twenty odd years ago.

Anything else I think I can remember might well be wrong, so I'm just going to see if this rings a bell with anyone first. Thanks!

A Greek mythology (I think) sword and sandals job from recent years, 25-30 years old anyway; it was in colour. A grotesque sea monster plays a part in it, to whom the rulers often make human sacrifices. Our hero, aided by a soldier with a disfigured face, slays the monster and rescues the damsel in distress at the climax. Don't recall the main actor's name but I don't remember him as being an A-list star. Categorically, it is not Clash of the Titans. Any ideas?

Ortag was the disfigured solider who had battled the sea creature.

He joins up with Hercules to fight the crature in this.

    Possibly,

    Loophole (1981)

An architect (Martin Sheen) shows the mastermind (Albert Finney) of a motley gang how to reach a London bank vault by sewer.

Don't think so.....the 1955 film was about a Security Van robbery

The remake starring Tom Hanks one did have an underground scene although that was made in 2004 so would be too recent
