Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Homelessness- scam and gravy train.

Climate change- only been talked about in the last 2 weeks, what’s your issue with this?

Broadband plan- many agree with it and say it’s needed.

If homelessness is a scam and gravy change what the actual **** is this?

It seems like a middleclass woman with a nice enough life made a fool of herself on a swing got a bit bruised and instead of chalking it up to experience and her own stupidity she decided to sue when no one made her sit on the swing but herself.

    ha, you're funny.

Scam and gravy train for who exactly ? Certainly not the folks living in emergency accommodation. And I'm pretty sure that climate change was brought up once or twice prior to two weeks ago. As for Broadband, see your comment about homelessness.

I thought there was a time limit when making claims like this? 4 years seems like a long time to wait.

What a ****ing disgrace. Most able-bodied children can safely use a swing without supervision and without signage explaining how to use a swing. Who needs a ****ing sign explaining how to use a swing safely? Instead of allowing natural selection to do it's job, we're rewarding people with huge payouts and ordinary people and businesses are paying through the nose for it.

    This is so stupid.
The stupidity of the woman in the first instance.
The stupidity to take the case without understanding what it would do to her party electorally.
I hope she's disciplined by her party for this. She will be disciplined by voters.

Daddy is running again in the local elections if the voting public want to show their support to the family...

I agree this woman is a disgrace.

But calling for a boycott of a whole party because of one persons actions, well there would be no parties left to vote for if that’s the way we go forward.

I was replying to a poster who said boycott the party because of this WOMANS claim.

The poster never mentioned Alan Farell.

Shes not standing in the euros is she?. Is she not embarassed to be claiming there were no instructions on how to use the swing or that she needed supervision??

Letting a party know that you will not vote for them due to their member's actions will maybe force that party to hold their members to a higher standard. Probably not, but you never know.

100% CORRECT MATE, when they come knocking at my door I'll be first to shove that in their face. If I cannot trust someone to use a swing, why am I trusting them with my vote!! she'll need supervision at the ballot box herself the yoke!

This isn't ordinary everyday political stupid,

    This is.... Advanced Stupid!

I mean seriously I dont know whats worse, shes suing for her own clumsiness or shes suing knowing people will see their local TD stooping to the same level as compo claimer parasites who have our insurance sky high with their frivilous claims.

Let me remind you exactly what you posted.
But calling for a boycott of a whole party because of one persons actions

Members of the party have form for speaking out on spurious claims, and the scourge it is on our insurance industry.

    It isn't an isolated incident.

"Her solicitors said she was sitting on a swing "unsupervised", having her photo taken by friends, "when she was caused to fall backwards".

Looks as though the laws of gravity may be the culprit here!

In fairness to Ms. Bailey, they're very complicated laws and a humble housewife like her couldn't possibly be expected to understand them.

The sooner that those laws are repealed, the better for all of us!

    Follow the money........

Ms Bailey was not in court. She is being represented by Madigan Solicitors, a law firm run by a brother of Culture Minister Josepha Madigan. Ms Madigan, a solicitor, stepped away from the firm after becoming a TD.

These same hotels probably shouldnt have stairs....or doors...or glass on the premises....coz, yunno...drunk people.

Ms Bailey is a hoot to watch on the see-saw btw.

A building generally needs to have stairs and always needs to have glass and doors. A hotel does not need an indoor swing - it was an accident waiting to happen really.

So as far you are concerned it's entirely the hotels fault that a 43 old female was unsupervised on a swing with both her hands full? I hope the hotel has warnings on their cups that the contents may be hot if this is the level of idiocy that is being defended.
Yet this adult is trusted by some to vote for legislation that effects all our lives.

No fan of FG, but would it not be correct to wait until the case concludes?

Of course not, all personal injury claims are fraudulent

A 43 yr old woman doesn't need to sit on a swing.

Problem according to the hotel is she couldn't get a grip as her hands were full. Guess her defence is noone took the items out of her hands.

On the bright side, stories like this make it clear who you shouldn't trust with vital decisions for the country. Clarifies who should and shouldn't get your vote. Maybe all those running for elections should be tested with common sense and other basic tasks.

    🤪

What items? A cocktail in each hand? I doubt it was shopping bags!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,203 ✭✭✭partyguinness

Of course we do not have all the facts just some newspaper article but I am struggling to see the negligence here.

Probably throwing in a claim expecting the insurer will just pay out to make her go away.

Just because someone gets hurt/injured it does not follow that there was negligence.

If she did she wouldn't have fallen, and we wouldn't be talking about this "alleged" scam.

The Dun Laoghaire TD says she fell backwards out of an indoor swing while having her photo taken during a night out with friends in 2015.

So potentially alcohol involved and posing on the swing rather than using it correctly... got it.

Although that photo would be comedy gold...
Wonder if it was the hotels photographer and they have the evidence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,305 ✭✭✭✭branie2

Too old to be on a swing!

At least she will appeal to the "swing voter" at the next election.

I like that. Perhaps the swing was "well oiled". ahemmm.

Can I sue the manufacturer of my car if I drive pissed?
I mean they should be supervising me or providing prominent instruction inside the car to tell me that I shouldn't be driving drunk, right?
How can I be expected to take responsibility for my own actions?

I'm guessing the hotel has security cameras in all public areas, including where this idiot was.

what caught my attention was in the writ where it said "she was caused to fall..." by what? gravity? Is that getting sued too?

  • Registered Users Posts: 26 Deadlift kid

All joking aside but this is the very reason we live in a society today with a nanny state attitude. Nobody accepts any responsibility for their own stupidity..

absolutely everything legislated against compo culture in this country disgusts me even our politicians at it..

and only messes up everything for everyone big insurance premiums for business etc ,

will be no more swing and playgrounds in the country next now I know it wasnt a kids playground swing but it can could set a precedent? if she gets her grubby 60k imo its a joke and disgusting behaviour from her looking for an easy payday try honest work or be an honest politician is my advice

  • Registered Users Posts: 26 Deadlift kid

This is a new level of stupidity and unashameful greediness not seen in ages.

I hope to jaysis the judge fires the claim out to fcuk and her with it.

Totally agreed 100% she's a politician they know no better dishonesty and been a leech is a way of life

I honestly think FG need her to drop her action. It will be a climb down, but it's necessary to show moral leadership here. How quickly can Leo act?

You're expecting a TD to turn down easy money, especially a FG TD. LOL.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,203 ✭✭✭partyguinness

I dunno about anyone else but if I was acting the gob****e on a hotel swing (never mind the fact she is a 43yr old mother of two and a TD) and I caused myself to fall an hurt myself like that I would never have the neck to complain about it let alone sit in a solicitors office with a straight face and file a claim.

Then again you need brass neck to be a TD so it is not surprising really I guess.

Interesting that she is not using the PIAB- that's a ringing endorsement.

Doubt it. They will show how many people have sat on it pissed with issues.

I would show a picture of a five yr old on a swing with no issues.
