Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Any update on when the head to head knockouts hope to start?

To my shame, I nominated 15 songs, but didn't vote in the rounds. I just didn't have time to be doing it. With head to head, I'll either know the songs or give a quick listen to one and vote, dip in and out that way.

Head to heads next week. Keep an eye on this thread.

I plan on letting you all know in advance what songs have been eliminated so that you can submit a different YouTube version of any song you have left if the one that I had selected wasn’t good enough.

Only one song a good woman should be singing IMO

'Stand by your man' closely followed by ' She's a good hearted woman in love with a good timing man'

What badness were you up to at the weekend?

Right - I'm way behind on voting it seems (blame the fine weather), but I'm at work on my own now, coffee in hand, so let's do this...

Can we get a table at some stage of what songs scored from highest to lowest (even if its after the head-to-heads if you don't want to give away what the favourites are beforehand)?

I thought this tune would show up..

I should have picked it myself, but I thought someone else would do it. Alas :( it's like smelling a gas leak on the street.

Maybe it's the coffee talking, but that Group 7 is a strong set. I'm throwing round 20s like confetti.

    Sure.

I plan to breakdown the songs eliminated into scored under X points, scored between X & Y.

I’ll reveal the most generous and stingiest judges. What judges have worn off the zero on their keyboards :D

I know what songs received most nominations. What artist had the most different songs nominated. All that stuff. Once all votes are in I’ll have the song that received the most 20s, 0s. What their average score was.

Are ppl giving 20s as in they would like to see the song in the next round, but not a 20/20 song? Maybe a yay or nay would have been enough, though maybe not enough to create a separation

I think they’ve scored them 20 because they love the song

Will be interesting to see if the songs with most nominations get through to the knockout stage.

For me, 20s have been songs I really love. I think I've only dished out about 15 or so in the first 10 rounds

I based my results a 5 star rating system and then multiplied by 4, so anything that got 5 (or 20) was a song I really love - think I gave out 77 twenty points. Anything I love is a 20/20 song as far as I'm concerned, as music is subjective. I'm not measuring everything against Stairway To Heaven (which is probably a good thing since I'd probably only give it a 3 aka. 12 points, because even though I know that musically its probably one of the greatest songs ever written, I just think it's fairly decent).

I also had over a hundred 0 points for songs that I'd be happy to never hear again in my life and therefore certainly don't want to see them in the next round.

    Yay done!

I don't think I'll end up as the stingiest scorer, I really enjoyed a lot of the entries but some of them I really didn't think deserved to be there - but I reckon half of my noms will probably be culled because I think there's such difference in musical taste overall - I won't take it personally

No need to apologise for it. It's all personal opinion sure.
There is a certain singer who is really popular atm but I just hate her voice and she got diddly squat from me every time she popped up in this contest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,696 ✭✭✭Pretzill

And all but one of Madonna's got a zilch from me :D it's subjective but not a greatest song among her poppy repertoire for me :o

I didnt give any song a zero. Even if I didnt like it, I didnt think any song nominated deserved a zero.

I did - but just for songs that don't deserve to be there (male lead vocals).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,480 ✭✭✭✭Tauriel

I got to say that I found a lot of the songs to be very whiny. I know a lot of people were saying that they don't listen to many female singers and with some of nominations I wouldn't blame them. I primarily listen to women and prefer the songs to be more uptempo and to show off the vocal ranges that female singers can hit.

My 15 will probably be the first out as the majority of mine are very niche and completely different to what everyone else nominated.

Most I put down to music being subjective and different people having different tastes, but there's been a good few where I'm sure we're being trolled

Had a bout of insomnia last night and was thinking about this thread, as you do, and the wonderful female/female-fronted artists that didn't get a look in at the end.

Fiona Apple, Sharon Van Etten and Janelle Monáe have already been mentioned but a few more that came to mind that I was surprised and/or disappointed nobody picked:

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - would have thought 'Maps' was a fairly decent bet for someone to submit.

Goldfrapp - 'Strict Machine' and 'Ooh La La' are two of the finest pop songs this century. Their softer stuff, like 'A&E' and the whole 'Tales Of Us' album, is also really good.

Lykke Li - 'Sadness Is a Blessing' would have come very close to making my final 15, as would the original album version (NOT the poxy dance remix with the awful piano) of 'I Follow Rivers'

Lorde - ok so she's still very young and has only two albums to her name, but any of 'Team', 'Yellow Flicker Beat' or 'Green Light' would have been worthy of inclusion here.

Warpaint - 'Undertow' is one of my favourite songs of all time, alas it's one I generally associate with listening to when feeling depressed so that may be why it escaped my memory when doing the shortlist (I must have been in a good mood that day!)

Lauryn Hill - Fugees 'Killing Me Softly' made the list but nothing from 'The Miseducation...' album did.

En Vogue - 'Don't Let Go' is a fúcking CHOOOOOOON!

All Saints - 'Never Ever', 'War of Nerves', 'Pure Shores', 'Black Coffee', 'One Strike'.....yep, definitely the best British girl band of the modern age.

I'm sure there are loads more out there.

Strawbs, we're gonna need another 14 playlists! :p

Ok just onto Part 10 now. Whoever nominated Stars - Grace Potter and also Paradise - Within Temptation gets my seal of approval.

On another note. Fcuk Sinead O Connor, Nina Simone and Madonna who have about 20 entries each. They're making me lose the will to live again

On another another note.... WHY with the 8 minute songs :( AIN'T nobody got time for that with the amount entered.

Lykke Li was in my initial list and didn't make the final cut - mostly because I couldn't decide between I Follow Rivers and Gubshot.
I considered Yeah Yeah Yeahs briefly, would have gone for Heads Will Roll, but not a huge fan, so that's gone too.
Completely forgot about Goldfrapp - again though so many good songs, where do you start?

Well, all I will say is that when we get to the knock out stages, there is a very good chance that in most cases I will be voting for all 3 of them!! :D

Made it to the start of 14, so I can add to the "where are...?" lists

No britpop?! No Elastica, no Sleeper, no Echobelly, no Republica...

I can't be the only person my age, can I? :(

EDIT: I'm not a fan, but no Kylie?! And how was "Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman" Britney's only entry? And "Halo" Beyoncé's?
