Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yeah, it's been a bit crazy alright. Only till next week, though.

Of all the shows, though, I think Pat's suffers the most when's he's not there.

    Well, except Moncrieff.

Like, he's off more than he's on (recently, anyway).

Thankfully it's not just me...!!! She's is a complete dose, I assume this is michelle mcmullen you are speaking of. I mean the news can be repetitive a lot of the time but she has a way of making your ears bleed.....

It's a real we don't want the outsiders coming in to our area going on in Ringsend isn't it. They're far from the only people who would wish to live in the area they grew up in, but don't due to costs. "That's our land". The modern day Field.

Too many foddeners. Dublin city could certainly do with a bit of gentrification.

Should have moved the scobies out years ago.

I was only ranting to my husband about her yesterday. Her pacing and intonation while reading the first line of a news story/the headline is bizarre. She...reads...the...line...so...slowly...overpronouncing...every...syllable with strangely placed pauses but then reads the rest of the story at a normal speaking pace. It absolutely wrecks my head

Anything would of sounded good after a couple of years of Eamon Keane. Healy was originally paired with Damien Kiberd, but Kiberd left due to ill health.

If anyone is wondering what he is at these days, he is filling in for Billy McCarthy on WLR. Still impossible to listen to with the same mix of faux hard man and oily ingratiation

Clear, unchallenged anti-border, pro mass immigration propaganda being broadcast on Newstalk right now.

Sutherland and Soros must be proud that their attempts to reduce European nations in their own homelands and eradicate their cultures are being promoted for free by Irish useful idiots demanding the demise of their own people.

It would be vaguely comical in it's smug naivety were it not for the fact this type of thinking leads to Bataclan, Cologne, Nice, a thousand different atrocities and a million different miseries for the native population of Europe.

It is dangerous and it is getting innocent people murdered, raped and assaulted in previously safe societies.

This is a bit over the top and full of sweeping generalisations - obviously, you don't have time for different cultures, where some would find it exciting. You are entitled to your opinion but you seem to be very closed to new cultures and ideas. This is how your post comes across anyway.

I was going to post about this earlier but didn't get a chance.

I sure do love being lectured to by privately school educated socialists like this guy and Paul Murphy.

Who is going to police the 10,000 "Syrians" that he wants us to open our arms to while he off jetsetting around the world to places like Pre-war Syria.

Toff nosed twit. Would make you sick.

I know this wasn't aimed at me but for the record I have no issue with other cultures but if we have no idea who you are or where you came from you are not welcome here imo. I doubt the average "refugee" would give a damn if the roles were reversed.

There needs to be safe zones built in the middle east where these people can be homed.

Islamic nutters and Syrian civil war are not my problem, thanks very much.

Did I hear right that Uncle George's new show will be called "High Noon"? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,673 ✭✭✭✭Ol' Donie

I know we all know this, but the lunacy was annoying me again this evening.

This Friday will be the last ever Right Hook. But George Hook, who hasn't left the station, hasn't been on it in weeks (months?).

    It's stupid.

Will he be back for another farewell on Friday?

(I will admit, however, that I'm looking forward to his midday ramblings. Even if shortening Moncrieff is, to my mind, an actual crime that someone should go to prison for.)

Great name indeed. Missed the old sod!

9-4 is radio gold in fairness.

I notice they have been playing promos with Coleman, Williams and Collette but nothing from Quinlan. Still not sure what purpose he is serving?

Drive will be podcast time I feel.

It has to be said the new schedule is beyond awful.

Paul Williams - F*ck right off.

George Hook - as much as I like him, he'll probably be off half the time.

Half hour run into OTB - pointless, utterly pointless, 3 hours of sport is enough, why couldn't they just start the new Drivetime programme at 4:30, and the worst thing about it is Moncrieff is the one losing time to accommodate this nonsense.

Seriously how drunk were they when they devised this new schedule?

An hour of Hook to rabbit on about immigration and concussion would be more than enough.

I will say, it's a flipping shame Seán's losing the opening interview. I always waited to hear who he had on, and 95% of the time stayed tuned in.

As for the extra 30 mins of Off the Ball....

I'm a massive rugby fan, but can't stand those "lads".

I thought George had retired? I'm happy that he's back but I assumed that he was going for good.

I know that I'd go and sit on a beach somewhere if I were 70+ and had his money.

I'd say its hard to shy away from the attention of being one of the top presenters on a nationwide station.

Saying that when my own father retired he said it was the thrill of doing something that you are very good at everyday that he missed most.

I don't see George as the type that would ever retire. Aside from presenting a drive time show at 75 he put in a hell of a lot of travel miles doing the shows too. He also does a lot of after dinner speeches and events. He was in Dubai in the last few weeks!!

Hope I'm half as active at his age.

Harder for a man his height and built to keep upright as well. I think it's far easier for men of small stature to keep themselves walking round.

Does anyone know if she's related to Michael McMullan? They both have a very similar presentation "style".

So the zombie Right Hook finishes today, it was a bit ridiculous it went on for 7 weeks after George left.

Not sure about this new pairing, I liked Chris with Ivan cos they were polar opposites, I doubt he'll have the same dynamic with a female presenter and it'll probably be a bit dull in comparison.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,673 ✭✭✭✭Ol' Donie

    Arragh Jesus.

Fist ad I hear for the new show tells me Dr Ciara Kelly is on to talk health.

Nothing personal for her - I quite like her - but if I have a health problem, I actually go to the doctor.

After that I don't wanna hear about it.

    Christ almighty.

It will be great to hear Georgy Porgies dulcet tones again after giving over the airwaves to the PC brigade/generic folk for the past seven weeks, though I dont know if the show will be toned down possibly. And I can get all my health complaints fixed now aswell:P.

As for the new breakfast show, the jury is still out on it, but I am not too hopeful about it but I will give it a chance.

I suppose the thing is, it'll still probably be a million miles better than other breakfast radio shows with their nitwit hyper having the craic presenters sounding like they're on speed...

I heard Healy announcing yesterday that he is taking over the Sunday Show. Talk about moving the deck chairs. They should have just moved him out permanently and let him work on his on air persona. And I don't know why they expect him, the most opinionated f**ker at the station, to be able to chair that particular show.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,780 Mod ✭✭✭✭Say Your Number

Chris confirmed someone from OTB would be joining them from 6.30 every evening.

And the Second Captains were ran out the door for wanting to move into drivetime hours......

We waited two months for the new schedule, and the first conversation on each show is about how difficult each host has found the changing hours. Surely this a conversation that they should have kept for another time. It sounds like they dont really want to be there.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 86 ✭✭Rambling Rake

Drivetime is the snooze fest I expected. Very vanilla pairing. Not familiar with Sarah McInerney but the Trump supporter fairly put her in her place.

Happy he is back but George seems like a strange fit at that hour. Moncrieff at 2 hours is ideal and can't have too much of Pat in the morning.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 86 ✭✭Rambling Rake

30 mins of OTB before OTB is OTT. I like the opening of the show where they run through the news. Not sure moving that to Drive is wise.

    Anyway it's pc heaven

Liam Cunningham is a Shinner. Enough said about him.

Thought Liam spoke well but think it was bad move to ask questions about GoT. Devalued the seriousness of what had just been discussed.

Should have suggested he'd join them again to discuss that.

He can well afford to be a humanitarian and "socialist". So he is personally going to vouch for all of these refugees? They are all just like us. Phew, and there was me worrying..
