Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Let's not forget that for copyright law to be effective, you have to prove you've defended your copyright in some manner or form. This is just so they can stop potential future issues.

Nice to know Pearl Jem changed the name. If I saw Light Years were playing, I likely wouldnt have gone

I just decided to start new cover band, it will be called Legal Jamm.

A tribute band selling merchandise opens up all kinds of cans of worms. I don't see why they don't just change the name and be done with it. It's pretty close to the original. Like some lidl and aldi biscuit brands!

Yep. I can't imagine a tribute band called "Metallicaa" selling Metallicaa t-shirts getting away with that for too long. Much ado about nothing at all.

The original Jamiroquai were great live!

Anyway back on topic. I'm expecting Hyde Park to be cancelled. Considering Glastonbury was cancelled.

Relieved! Had tickets for both Hyde Park shows. Was really worried they'd go ahead but we wouldn't be able to make them.

Do people think the 5 band members sit in a room with a map and go "Nah, fcuk this place. . . next"?

So so much more to it.

(And it has been documented in numerous places why Pearl Jam don't play here anymore).

Precisely. There is a litany of logistics, promoters, etc that have to be navigated and if they don't won't work, they don't won't.

It's not a case of Jeff Ament or Stone Gossard going "Pfft, Ireland, yuck!"

Man, I literally worked with MCD. Acts by in large have absolutely minimal input into the venues and cities they play. A tender-esqe invite is often submitted by management to promotors with the band's flat fee. And base level logistic, cost and expense fees. The promoters then put in for the act with dates and proposals.

The amount a band charges does not vary with the amount of tickets sold or how much the promoter charges, they also do not set ticket prices. Something so many on this thread don't seem to grasp. The only variable the act has in its price is logistics. (Ireland, as an island are naturally higher).

You surely aren't naive enough to think Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard are sitting down going "how much do we make? nah not enough".

Edit: I happen to know that Pearl Jam are about €400k (, well were 5 years ago). In both 2012 and 2014 they said "This is how much we cost, and we are free on these dates" to promoters around Europe and both our major promoters in Ireland passed. It's as simple as that. 2012 became Manchester night 1, 2014 became a second UK date too.

If we all chip in we could get them to come and play! Few cans in the garden, nice.

Eddie's last solo show in the 3arena grossed over 1m, that was on his own.
The previous time he visited he sold out the 3arena and the Marquee in Cork and the average ticket was over 100 euro.
    Thats close to 1.4m euro.

Its not about money, Pearl Jams appearance fee is pretty modest by modern standards, its closer to a 800k nowadays.

They tour with a pretty modest stage setup so transport costs wouldnt be very high compared to more elaborate tours.

Pearl Jam would easily sell out the RDS, 35k tickets at 100 euro average per tickets, thats 3.5m gross, loads of room for profit in that.

You can pay for their shows on nugs.net - EDIT audio only, I thought watching was also an option on this site

I get the odd email about a discount on these, not sure if they're from the general Pearl Jam newsletter or the Ten Club newsletter.

the stage dive at the end of black was some mixture of emotions for both Eddie and the fans. it was serene.

I went to the one in millstreet 2 days earlier also....

I bought a renault 4, 15 years old, cassette player worked tho, the heater and the door locks didnt.

I drove to Millstreet with my gf (wife now) and was so near the front !

The Saturday gig i went on my own, i could only get a seated ticket, i thought it would be easy just to slip in to the standing downstairs... It wasnt easy, and i had to sit for the gig!!

Ps - that was also the day Man Utd were beaten 6-3 by Southampton in that grey kit, i can remember listening to the reports on the radio on the way up.

I was at both the Millstreet and Dublin gigs too. From North Cork so was a no brainer. Of course the place I was supposed to stay in Dublin fell thru so just walked around for the night, as you do, and got the first train back the next morning.

Was well back in millstreet but got right up the front in The Point. Good Times.

I remember having a pint in a pub on the Quay that night. Just remembered it was green. Found out years later it was a place called Valence & McGrath's. Been knocked and its now the hotel that a lot of Kin is filmed.

Does anybody remember that Gigathon thing they released last year , lol.. I spun it up the other day to remind myself how far they done fell. .. Saying its their version of Dirty Work is an insult to Dirty Work. Its more comparable to Nickleback!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭ILikeBoats

Couple of Gigaton songs sounded great live at their recent gigs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,749 ✭✭✭flasher0030

For me, it's their best album for the past 20 years - granted the bar was gradually getting lower in comparison to their earlier offerings. But I'd have it easily in front of any of the last 5 albums starting from Binaural up to lightening bolt. They all have some decent songs, but Gigaton for me is more of a complete album than those.

  • Registered Users Posts: 962 ✭✭✭Burty330

Yeah but those albums suck as well apart from Riot Act which sounds like TEN compared to Gigathon. . There's no way Gigathon will ever rank above Riot Act , as the latter features some of the best songs the band has ever written. . Gigathon has vanished from the public consciousness so quickly that people have forgotten it ever existed. Viewing numbers on youtube are the same now as they were when the album first dropped. .

I expect the band will disown it over time like Dave Grohl did with One By One. Thats not to imply that One By One is anywhere near as bad as Gigathon though, lol.
