Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just watched the match. A tough outing indeed! Our scrum was awful! I was very surprised. A lot to work on. I don't think this squad will be as good as last years. A lot of poor tackling, especially #14. Some good players though! The hooker looks very good. Some pace on him.
O'Brien looks very good too. Ahern looks like he could win a sprint against the backs. Finlay was very good. He reminds me of Casey, from last year. McNulty too looks like he's a top prospect.
Hopefully, the scrum gets fixed, or we'll be murdered by France and England.

I thought Deeny and Ahern were the 2 standout performers to me. Secured all line out ball and offered a lot in the tight and loose.

Ahern is the real deal. He recovered from a couple of early knock on’s to put in a solid performance in the tight, loose and defense. Crowley took his two try’s really well but not sure about his general play, there were a lot of basic errors, handling and game management. Finlay looked impressive at 9.

It's hard to judge Crowley based on last night. He's obviously an excellent runner and that was on display in the first half. Finlay ran the show in the second half and Crowley saw very little ball. Unfortunately for him, the times he saw it, he put it out on the full and spilled a pass.

I'm very encouraged by Finlay given the responsibility he was given in the conditions. He ran the show comfortably and managed his pack fairly well.

Defence has to be the main focus for this week. If Scotland can breeze through us so easily, I'd hate to see what will happen when we go away to France or England unless we transform our defensive showing. And it was across the board. Finlay, Ahern, Crowley, Clarkson... the senior guys and the ones who generally went well were as bad as anyone on the other side of the ball.

McCann actually stepped up on a couple of occasions and made covering tackles that weren't his to make.

Stopped caring about the results of U20s games when I saw how hit an miss it can be and how many times squads have been decimated with injuries,

I now only really look to see if the team contains any players that can make the step up to a higher level of rugby and thats what excites me the most at watching these games,

As a Leinster man it really excites me seeing promising young players from Munster coming through again, the last couple years have been very good talent wise for them and I hope it continues and they get opportunities from Van Gran

Anyone point me to highlights of France U20s vs England U20s? AFAIK Sky were to show this game but showed Sydney 7s instead. Can't find any highligts reel anywhere.

Weird backrow sub on 20s bench.. Doesn't cover anywhere but 6 really. Interested to see who'd move to 8 if McCann had to go off.. Probably SOB

Interesting to see Ward move back to the bench with Hanan and Noonan returning after both being absent from the bench last week due to illness. Better depth at Prop now IMO.

Notable McCarthy keeps bench place over Eoin O'Connor.

These D4 rugby types give their kids the weirdest names.

Wonder why Soroka was dropped? Anyone know anything about Prendergast?

Eoin O Connor is injured and more than likely out for the six nations. Hopefully we’ll see him at the WC

Prendast is a u18 and u19 international. Plays lock and 6.

Horrendous from Wales, their 5 was pointing and mouthing didn’t even block, the 9 would have had a job clearing him with any kick anyways

Who are the players to keep an out for?

Baloucoune could learn a bit about defending from Faria.

    Some tackle there

Hernan doing some brilliant tackling and straight back to his feet to disturb ruckball

That was a brutal kick from Crowley, under serious pressure now

Ref got that side entry call wrong. He confused the player who came in at the side (and didn't engage at all) with the player who wound up legally on the deck.

Stunning phase of play. Team play is right!

Smith is a real talent with ball in hand. A lot of lovely open play running here.

    Some feet on Smith

Fair contest when the player flew into the standing player who had caught the ball dislodged it.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,223 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

This Irish side is superbly coached. Defence is up quick and in a line, they're not overcommitting to the ruck and are pushing the Welsh back. I also like how in multiple different attacking moves we saw our players draw in the defender and then release at the last second. They're playing like pros.

Defence is super calm and marshalled.

Defence has really surprised me after a poor showing this week. Faria looks strong for his side and Tom Stewart has been excellent so far.

Ahern looks like a monster for someone so young

That is a very well coached u20's team.

Stewart looks pretty powerful, a bit of a nugget.

His throwing has been spot on, and his line speed and tackle technique have been perfect. Only u19 as well.

The ref mic picking up his sniffles is killing me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,342 ✭✭✭Locke_Lamora

I also really like the way Crowley runs with the ball. Reckon he might have a big future at 15 if Munster prefer there other young options at 10. Maybe centre given his size.

Lovely lineout for that try. Very good performance to get the BP by half time.

    And what a kick!

Great half of rugby. So much variation and endeavor in that team.

It’s good to see all the forwards being ballers, they all look very comfortable handling the ball and looking for space rather than contact.

In addition, that pack (of teenagers) weighs 833kg, that's frightening.
