Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Because the other lad incited the head hackers of Islam?

Hes not my hero. Far from it. Just pointing out the obvious. Good chance you get an extended medical ban if you don't tap out and go unconscious.

To be fair, the "choke" was more of a crank over his jaw. He likely tapped from pain rather than going unconscious.

Sorry for pointing out your hero Conor "I'd rather die than tap out" McGregor tapping out.

This is the funny thing about people who have an almost obsessive hatred for the man. If people don't agree with them, they're automatically fans, apologists, etc.

I doubt Conor McGregor is a hero to most, if any, people in either this discussion or over on the MMA forum.

But he's just on his usual pre-fight hype train against Khabib, so he can guarantee maximum $$$ from the rematch when it happens.

His trash talk is so predictable, but it's what has made him the most successful MMA star ever and one of Ireland's most famous sports stars.

Conor doesn't care about Khabib, his culture, or what he does in his spare time one way or another, he just cares about money.

I'm actually shocked that so many people can't see through his paper thin facade, his trash-talk has gotten nastier in recent years but fundementally he's been doing the same thing since he first joined the UFC.

He called one of his first opponents, German guy Denis Siver, a Nazi for example in the trash-talking ahead of the fight. He became 'famous' in the UFC long before he had any right to, precisely due to his loud, ugly mouth.

Trash talking is 95 percent the reason why he's as famous as he is today.

He's an excellent 145lb fighter, but far more average at weights beyond that, and not the best 145lb fighter going either. I mean, we can look at people like Daniel Cormier, Jon Jones, etc, who are true champions of the sport, and operating at a level way beyond all competition for years. McGregor is not in their league, relatively speaking, but he's tenfold more famous.

He is the face of UFC and MMA internationally - Khabib is fast becoming incredibly famous beyond the reach of MMA as a sport - purely to his 'beef' with McGregor. Same could be said of Diaz, thanks to both those fights, which paid him more than he earned in his entire career prior to that.

McGregor called it pretty much in the 'red panty night' conference - you fight McGregor, you get rich, and you get famous. It's pretty much true.

He knew there was a strong chance he would lose against Khabib, he knows there's a very strong chance he will lose the rematch, and he sure as hell knew that he hadn't a hope in hell of beating Floyd Mayweather. People who think, that he actually thought, he could beat Mayweather are themselves deluded.

All he cares about at this stage is the money. He was a fantastic 145lb fighter, but he's very average at higher weight classes....largely irrelevant though with his star power.

He'll continue to be able to make bank even if he lost his next few fights. Notwithstanding that when fighting at the highest level of competition loses are usually inevitable. Stephen Thompson has lost 3 out of his last 4 fights in UFC for example but no-one's arguing that he's still not an excellent, high-level fighter.

McGregor is by far the biggest draw in UFC, but there are other smaller drawing fighters that were immensely popular despite actually having losing records or very close to it (McGregor is 21-4).

UFC as an organisation highly rewards draw power, it's not just about skill. It would take a very, very long time for McGregor to cease to be a major draw.

Ultimately, I dont' like the man much. I don't like his persona, and the things he does/says to promote his fights. It works for him, all the same, and has made him the global star he is today.

Used to enjoy watching him fight at 145 though. He was incredible in that weight class. 18 TKO/KO out of 21 wins, most in a class not known for KO power.

Going unconscious isn't as big a deal as having your jaw shattered. It and can and does happen from such a choke.

Ben Askren actually had a similar choke on Robbie Lawler in his UFC debut recently, and he wasn't getting out of it.

You'd be medically suspended either way.

A bulldog choke isn't really similar at all to the crank Khabib had on him.

I meant similar in the sense that it wasn't an air choke, but can still cause submission due to pain or threat of serious injury.

    Conor is a heel

I meant similar in the sense that it wasn't an air choke, but can still cause submission due to pain or threat of serious injury.

If we're getting technical, most chokes in MMA aren't air chokes, they are blood chokes. A choke like the "rape choke", which is more of what would be termed a strangle, cuts off air but is unusual and obviously much harder to finish with.

Bulldog choke will put you unconscious by cutting off the blood, many still argue that Robbie actually did go out momentarily but it's choked out many people before notably Pat Miletich vs Carlos Newton.

His solicitor would have advised him not to say anything while charges for rape are still pending.
Khabib's tweet would be inadmissible in court, but McGregor's response wouldn't be.

It's moronic to acknowledge the rape rumours, when you deny it you're giving it attention and energy. It's much better to ignore it, don't feed it.

what exactly would he be saying in the first place
It's a picture of him feeling up a woman who is not his partner.

Sure he can say, "I didn't do nuttin", but if he was to remark, for example, that the girl in the photo is a mate, or was coming onto him, or anything at all about her, he could find that being used against him.

Solicitors advice will be - keep your mouth shut, always.

Khabib (or his manager) is a shrewd enough operator to throw that at McGregor. That's another bout McGregor has lost.
