Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Same here both of us with Allianz, I got my refund. Received an email a while back and got a cheque in the post. My wife has heard nothing from them, she is though a broker through so I wonder if that makes a difference?

As an aside why on earth are they sending out cheques rather than just refunding to the card that was used to pay for the premium.

How did your wife pay? Did you pay on her behalf by any chance?

I got a rebate to my Revolut account. I paid my mothers motor insurance online with the same Revolut card, she received a cheque in the post. Both Allianz. So they may do a cheque if the card holder isn’t the policy holder. You select relationship of card holder to policy holder when paying online.

Changed from AXA in the middle of this. Not expecting to get anything. The €200 reduction in premium more than makes up for it.

Yes I got my €30 cheque in the post today from Allianz direct, however Im with a broker though, heard nothing from said broker.

The payment is p1ss poor tbh, I was expecting more from Allianz.

Will have to lodge the cheque into bank on Monday.

    The cheque's in the post!

I hadn't heard anything since they sent me an e-mail in March so checked their website just now and they are going to pay us €30 per motor policy, starting on June 15th (last Monday)......

You do not need to do anything to receive this refund.

If you pay by direct debit, we will transfer the payment directly to the bank account used to pay your premium. If you paid in full, we will issue a cheque to the last address we have on file for you.

We will start to issue payments from June 15th, please bear with us, processing this volume of payments may take several weeks to complete.

Nothing, and they've increased my insurance by €70, without reason. Renewal due in the next 2 weeks, will be shopping around

€10 from Liberty for a bike policy [voucher] and €30 from AXA for my car policy [check] Both came this week.

I got an SMS from BoI insurance this afternoon, apparently my one4all voucher is in the post, courtesy of RSA. Now all I have to do is Google what that is. :pac:

Reason is probably dodgy claims and a complicit legal ‘profession’.

Got an e-mail from Liberty ,a refund which would amount to the princely sum of €12.70. They kindly informed me if I chose not to seek this rebate they would give it to Pieta House! Very generous.

Got €35 (voucher) from FBD today.

    Wasn't overwhelmed by their generosity.

Nothing from Allianz yet. I go through a broker but the broker website says the refund is to be sent directly from Allianz to the client. Fingers crossed for next week.

Well I renewed with them on the 22nd of May and I asked were they going to give a discount due to lockdown.
They said no but we're looking into refunding customers.

It's not too costly anyway but it is more than my car insurance.

If an insurer has a bad year, will you give them extra for the year you previously paid for?

Both myself and my partner are insured with AXA and no sign of any cheques just yet.

With AXA for both my car and bikes. €30 refund on each live policy held before April 29th 2020. Refunds were to start issuing on the week beginning June 15. Needless to say I’ve received sod all as yet bar AXA sending a letter requesting payment of my wife’s new policy which was paid in full on May 1st. I stand to get €60 back of the €1210 I forked out during the month of April, my wife gave them another €950,

No Such refund if your with Avvia I believe, Renewed in May and of course not a hint of a refund despite car not in use for nearly 3 months. As far as I know, Avvia the only Insurance company not offering any refunds, this said, I do mine through An Post

€30 paid back into my account last week from Allianz.
Second time I have received a refund from them. Makes a nice change writing something positive about an insurance company.

    Got my €30 One4All from 123.ie yesterday.

€30 is about 4% of my premium. Insurance companies have gotten away with murder during this crisis.

Absolutely. Paid 1200e myself for the year. 4 months of little to no driving gets me €35 back. It's nearly an insult even sending out the vouchers

To think, the insurers who are not refunding anything are being spared that criticism

Got the same. Could someone explain to me where you can use the card?

I tried using it online twice and it didn’t work- must be the no name on it?

Then I tried to pay for fuel with it in Apple green, as it has no chip I had to swipe - declined.

Incredibly frustrating . Haven’t even checked to see if there’s €35 on the thing

    30 from FBD

50 might have been ok but 30 ?

30 from Allianz, policy due as well and it’s gone up. Funny that!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭Purgative

Funny how all the refunds seem to be 30/35 quid. Almost like they agreed that between themselves rather than use some formula.

Let's be clear about this. Not one insurance company wanted to give a penny back to their customers. They are in the money making business and weren't obliged to give any refund.

One or two insurers became concerned about the growing public pressure that they should do something at this time of crisis. When the first insurer came up with a figure of circa €30, that set the bar as to the minimum they could get away with and others rowed in behind at that level. Why would any insurer offer a figure higher than that, knowing a customer would still switch to another company to save €20 at next renewal anyway (as I would).

I still stick by my argument that insurers should not have given returns, allowing them to make increased profits and then enter a phase of soft market pricing, which benefits everybody
