Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

John Murray isn't so bad. I think he deserves a better programme than The Business. Though Rachael English usually stands in for Marian, I thought?

Rachel English was doing the News at One - replacing someone else, probably. Is it something to do with teachers' holidays - if it's mid-term, or the Easter/Christmas/Summer break then they don't work?

I read she pulls down €450 k pa

she has 2 shows a week

    a few hours with breaks

    AND YET

I have to listen to her clearing her throat, slurping tea, chipping tea cups, dropping spoons, rustling paper

jeebus fricking hoist ! €450k for production qualities / values that wouldnt pass as community radio in NYC

Ireland is bankrupt in more ways than one.

Sure its just like being in her kitchen, having natter over a pot of Lyons. What more could you ask for 450,000 a year then to feel like you are in her very presence?

/pass the rich teas there, would you?

well I know that she does work for the Hospice Foundation.. (did work for them myself, that guy Eugene Murray is an angry b0st0rd).. but I would reckon that this is just to do with her holidays.. Rachael, who I prefer anyway, will probably be on tomorrow as well.

My point is that she is paid 450k pa of taxes from John Q taxpayer.

Indirectly perhaps but that's how it works.

Eugene Murray... is he an RTE head....sounds like an absolute whanker from your description.

Leather elbowed gimp from Booterstown I suspect, out of touch with reality in my opinion.

Oh No I agree with you .. But I'm sure she would argue that she is entitled to her holidays.. How long she is getting I dont know. but I have said before, that it would make economical sense to retire Marian (I like her but she costs too much) and give the job to Rachael full time.

No, but he heads the Irish Hospice Foundation. Marian had a daughter who died very young, so she supports them and does a lot of ads/promos for them. To be fair to Eugene, I was the fourth engineer from the company to look at the server issues that he was having... but he took the head off me the minute I walked in the door..

Ok.. something tells me Eugene Murray worked for RTE at some stage.

Would have to say that Marian has shot her bolt, what's the business term...'costs too fhuuking much:D'

All those gimps should have the auld contracts re-evalued and suck in a large dose of reality.

Living in cloud cuckoo land most of them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,575 ✭✭✭✭FlutterinBantam

Eugene was formerly a member of the Executive Board of RTE, where he held a number of senior management posts, including Director of Business Planning, Director of Digital Media and Head of Current Affairs, Television. In his earlier RTE career, he worked as a producer in radio and television. He was Editor of the flagship TV current affairs programme, Today Tonight.

    Lifetime civil servant:eek:

That doesn't make him a lifetime civil servant!!

He's a focking RTE head.... I knew it.

No wonder he took the head off ya... the auld vested interest syndrome.

Hey, just to get back on thread track, did Rachael say where Marian was? Just listening back to the podcast..

Kenny just wound up his show, he almost sounded embarrassed as he did so. 90 mins is your lot for the rest of summer, so that means 90 mins of Ronan Collins. Yipee.

Now if they knew they were doing this couldn't they have arsed themselves into producing some 30 min programmes? Comedy, drama, arts, docs.

/waves to rte, ya lazy tossers!.

Why not have Ronan Collins on a bit earlier. Its sumemrtime. Not much happening on news front. Even sport leading with news from a pro-am. Other stations leading with news on the run away gunman in England.

My local station playing more music than talk all this week. A reflection that Dail is off, people on hols, nothing happening so we just hum along to the music, enjoy it and thank God its not more blather about NAMA, etc

    Great:rolleyes:

The Dail is off so everything stops does it?.

The day to day news issues no longer happen? People are no longer shot down in the streets because the Dáil is not sitting?

Right let's put some inane predictable mundane bland geezer on the radio, play some Sonny Knowles, and Tony Kenny and jaysus:eek:everything is all right!!

    Would you ever.......

Better than what was on the six news this evening. The most unbelievable struggle I have ever seen to stitch an hour of news together ever.

Hedgehogs, adult reading courses, non NAMA story, FF meeting, Tiger saying nothing at a press conference and the Jack the Ripper story in England to name but a few. Even PK played music in the last half hour of his show today while my 1.80 for the Irish Indo today was the worst waste of money since I paid in to see the Rossies get hammered in the league!!

Of course you know why this is don't you ?

The dail is a nice central well equipped place and ideal for lazy hack news gatherin.

Heaven forbid these lazy fat overpaid hacks would actually have to nose out a story.

And there is one of them in almost every county...problem is they are probably on holiday as well.

Newstalk have no obvious problems in filling their talk slots and in my opinion beat RTE hands down.

Get them up off their fat butts and stop them wasting taxpayers money I say.

Mind you I wouldn't mind helpin that Mannion one down in Galway get a bit o fat off her butt......

A month is what Kenny said last Friday, which should see him back circa Aug. 16/8.

Cannot figure out why no-one turns the heat on RTE and the salaries out there.

It seems that RTE is just a nice little 'sleeper' while they coin it elsewhere.

Remember Mulooley and the media training.;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 920 ✭✭✭Lenny Lovett

Yeah, it's crazy what they get away with at Montrose. They could easily cut a good 30%-40% of most of the top salaries there without any fear of their 'talent' being poached as even with that size of a cut most of them would still be out of reach of Today FM/Newstalk/4FM and the others. The holiday allocation could do with some attention as well. It's about time the minister for communications and the RTE authority grew a pair and sorted it out. Terry Wogan was earning less per hour than either Pat Kenny, G. Ryan, Ryan Tubridy or Joe Duffy during his last few years at BBC Radio 2's Breakfast show. And he was pulling in almost nine million listeners.... Go figure!

Finucane off, Tubridy off, Kenny off, Collins off, O'Rourke off, Duffy off - all at the same friggin time?
I know we're all entitled to our annual leave, but Radio One is not a secondary school. It's supposed to be the flagship national radio station.
How can they all go at the same time? Do they not have one of those big calender charts in the boss's office so the leave can be staggered?
Honest to God, these people have zero moral authority when it comes to questioning the pay, perks and conditions of those in the Oireachtas.
When Wogan was working full time on BBC Radio 2 and reaching c. 8 million people every morning, he had plenty of leave, but it was staggered so he was never off for a month or more.
I notice I pay for a twelve month licence fee, not a 10 month one. Once again, the licence fee payer gets it up the ass with no lube.
RTE management still has no cojones.

If you think it's okay that around 3 million euro p.a. "worth" of presenters should all be off at the same time, good for you Derryleigh.
I happen to pay my share for that and am not happy. I believe some of em are very fine professionals and some of them are useless.
If you're not happy about the tone of criticism of some of these very well paid public people, there's an 'x' on the top right hand corner of the page that you could click.

it doesnt bother me simply because in life in general, I am not and never was a begrudger. But I understand that to make the world tick, we need begrudgers thrown into the mix or it would be a very boring place.

This craic about "my hard earned money paying them", have you worked it out, is it 0.1 cent or 0.2 cent of your hard earned money that goes into Pat Kennys back pocket every week?

But my nit picking aside, my real point with all of the negativity and bile directed towards radio presneters, is the fact that all other aspects of the work they do and entertainment they provide it TOTALLY blinded by peoples jealousy over money. By all means, be critical of items, but I just feel that jealousy over what they are paid blinds peoples judgements.

If they were not getting paid the sort of money you would kill for in the morning Tommy, would you be as upset? Be frank, does it boil down to jealousy over what they are paid??

Whatever about it being an issue of jealousy or not, it's a hell of a way to run a radio station.. I thought there was a female head brought in a few years ago, who had prevented them all from taking their holidays at the same time.

Personally, if Tubridy and Collins fukd off for good I wouldnt be unhappy, but the rest of them are pretty good.

You can see it as an issue of jealousy if ya want to , Derryleigh. I see it as an issue of value for money for an organisation that I must help pay for - if I choose not to I could be jailed.
You can belittle my 160 euro which I pay over for a licence fee if you wish but actually I believe in Public Service Broadcasting and am happy to pay it. There is much about RTE I enjoy e.g. Lyric, 2 orchestras and other cultural groups, sports programming and some fine broadcasters.
It's because I believe in Public Service Broadcasting that it boils my urine to see a situation where the majority of the top level broadcasters on leave at the same time.
Whether I like or dislike some of all of them is not the point nor is jealousy - at that level the salary scale seems to be still out of whack in relation to what the private sector can afford.
It's this kind of abuse of largely public money that will threaten the bits of PSB that I love.
