Since I have just noticed that pumps.ie is no longer working and with fuel prices starting to reach for the stars again has anyone a link to a site that does similar to what pumps.ie used to do

I was thinking of starting a thread similar to the insurance quotes one.

One could relay station, location and at least the fuel price they bought.

if you use waze theres a option there for fuel prices, its usually pretty up to date.

I have an Applegreen app which does the same as pumps but it doesn't seem to be always available on the play store

Pumps is notorious for working and not working all the time. Sit tight and it's probably going to be back up and running in a week

It's been down for a few weeks now, and the map hasn't worked for months.

Strange that nobody knows whats going on.

Petrol 132.9 in Charleville yesterday. Whereas 138.9 in Limerick city.

Petrol is 1.419 at Texaco on the N4 at Woodies. 138 at Circle K beside Marley Park and 140 at the one around the corner beside the Pizza Hut.

I was there Monday 8th, E1.40 for petrol, sorry didn't catch the diesel price

Anyone tried Drivvo or Waze for pump prices. I really miss pumps.ie!

The Applegreen app shows competitor prices.

I think the problem is with the underlying pumps.ie rather than the app.

The app's author's email address is freely available on the play store so I guess it's ok to put it here.....

Send an email to ed.android@gmail.com and alert/ask him if he can do something about it.

I suspect he doesn't own pumps.ie so he may or may not be able to help.

I tried Waze, it does have pump prices but they are not accurate. Stations around me were showing as "1.4" or "1.3" which is supposed to mean 1.40 and 1.30 respectively. I don't know why they don't show the actual price as presumably the Wazers (users) were entering the full price, i.e. 1.42. Anyway I went to the 1.3 one and it was 1.44!

I think Drivvo is a paid app.

Sadly fuel prices are climbing steadily again and of course we are also getting ripped off with a stations slow response to falling oil prices and a very fast response when the price increases. The rise and fall of the pump price should be aligned with the oil price, it's not and there is no legislation to provide for that unfortunately.

Did anyone get a reply from the pumps.ie people?

The price paid by the retailer is not directly linked to the price of crude oil. In the summer petrol goes up becase of the US driving season, they like to drive for their vacation. While in winter diesel goes up as its used for heating. Priced can also change depending on which refineries are going into or exiting maintenance. So the retail prices of oil are only partially correlated to the price of crude.

It's often gone down for a few days.. maybe even a week , but it's never been down for this long.

I think the Dev has given up on it.

It's all down to the inputter. There's only me and 2 others in this area who update prices. The last week or two prices have been changing daily by a cent or 2, depending what next door is charging. Some stations in the Sligo area haven't been updated for weeks and are showing about 8c under the average.

Waze already has this functionality with a pretty decent UI, why re-invent the wheel? It just needs more users in Ireland.

I'm not young anymore but I would be willing to take over the website and host it and maintain it. I wouldn't take on the app, someone else perhaps.

The problem is that no one seems to know who owns it and although we have an email address for the app developer, he is not responding.

Google Maps changed their licencing, they now charge for using the Google Maps API as part of any web application, I'd imagine that combined with the cost of maintenance/hosting is what led to the demise of pumps.ie, it more than likely ended up costing too much to run.

What I cannot fathom is why the owner of the website would not simply inform users of the situation.

Anyway, if we don't get any info we'll have to wait until the end of November '19 when the domain pumps.ie is due for renewal.

Would be nice to get some baseline stats in terms of visits and usage etc to get a grasp of costs of running something similar, the application itself would be fairly simple to develop.

That site has been in decline for the past few years. The dev used to give news updates on the expected rise/fall of fuel prices.

Shame to see a great site & app fall into disuse .

I was an avid updater of prices in my locality.

I consistently found (from pumps.ie) that Go Kylemore Dublin was very competitive and worth the extra mile or two to fill up. Could they and others post their daily pump prices on their facebook page? (and make Facebook useful for a change!)

I try to contribute waze since I got the app. One thing I've noticed is a lot of petrol stations have started putting the deisel price on top of the price board. Maybe cos it's a lower figure than petrol.

It's pointless posting prices.. there are over 1,000 petrol stations.

Pumps.ie has been down in the past, but never for this long.
I think it's time to call it a day. .. now if someone want to start up pumpz.ie app & website..

You could live without the built-in map if the cost was one of the issues, a link to a map and location would work just as well.

If more people in Ireland use it, it will have more accurate prices. Same goes for routing and traffic - I find it better at learning things than Google Maps.

Waze is owned by Google, they acquired it for the technology.

But they don't actively share between the two platforms. Google Maps is more accurate at present in Ireland because nearly every Android and iPhone are reporting to Google Maps in the background as most people enable this option, or are unaware of it.

Waze doesn't really work in Ireland as we don't have good alternative routes. If you are going through Dublin, the only 'highway' is the M50. So the routing algorithms don't work very well. This is compared to the US and abroad where you have secondary, collectors and expresses that can actually make a huge difference.

As a last point, Waze hammers your battery. I have no idea why but its a huge draw.

I agree, more people should use it but it's better for alerts than saving time.
