Do you really think the ministers and td's didn't know what was going on for decades ?

The Govt turned a blind eye to what the church did in Ireland, after all, they objurgated their social responsibilities to Rome to look after. Bad enough that they got archbishop Mac Quaid to read the Constitution first before it was enacted under Dev and to make sure the church had its place in the Constitution.

We existed here under a Theocracy posing as a "constitutional republic". So you got felt up by the local priest...Who could you tell? What could you do? No one would believe you or dare speak out on your behalf, and if you persisted you could be assured of a one-way trip to the home for the bewildered.

Russia had its political hospitals where those who were critiquing the Soviet system of govt were considered nuts and were "cured" of their beliefs.
We had the same, except we didn't try and cure anyone.

I’ve been shooting a rifle since I was a pup but have set myself a goal of getting damn good at it.

Yeah, i'd love to wander around America for a couple of years, see the interesting places, not the usual tourist traps. Ditto Europe i suppose, especially eastern Europe, as it was behind the Iron Curtain and mysterious and plotting to invade the west when i was growing up.

    I recommends!!
Just sharpening it here as we type. I got it in the half and half serrated version which I now think half blade half-serrated blades are a PITH to sharpen properly,so if that is an issue for you,go the full blade.
Its nice and slimline,if you are a front pocket carrier and a definate EDC .At 70/80 usd on Ebay...How bad?

Has anyone else noticed how well people on this topic seem to get on when we're not talking about politics? Funny that, given we mostly seem to have similar interests....

Is there anything to be said for adopting traditional Mess Rules on topics of conversation on the Off-Topic thread? - i.e. leave off discussion of politics / religion? The world isn't short of places to discuss those, views tend to be strongly held, and aren't going to be changed here for sure.

I would disagree with that, unless there was a creation of another thread specifically for discussion of such verboten topics.
IE one "general" thread, and one verboten thread, and if some users did not want to engage on politics/religion then they could simply ignore the verboten thread?

I do like hearing other user's opinions, even if I disagree with them, especially on the hot topics that get tempers flaring.

I've always have the notion I'd make my own knife someday. Hard to get around to without a workshop or shed. But can;t call it a hobby without have done a thing.

Another thread might be more appealing for many who don't post here.
It seams to be politics/current events more so than religion.

See below link for stock removal, doable without a shed but would require an amenable missus!

I'd like that but I can ignore the politics. If we all chimed in with other topics it would dilute the politics to a degree.
The US politics I find funny as it's like the antelope arguing over the lion vs the tiger. At the end of the day the antelope creates the wealth, i.e. turning the grass into meat and the lion and tiger take it as they please.

Ends up stabbing a cop after being escorted outside and dying of acute lead poisoning from the other cop and 3 range employees concealed carrying.

Callum from Englishshooting saying there is a new law coming that means every component must have the serial number of the gun marked on it. It comes from an eu directive, but is it only the uk taking this up or are all eu countries going to have to do this ?

I could be naive but why would the UK give a fiddlers about an EU directive?

There was an EU directive a few years ago (I'm too busy here now to look) that stated that all firearms coming into the EU after a certain date must have certain parts marked with a serial number, barrel, receiver etc. Maybe the Brits are going to implement something like that for themselves.
