Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Pretty hard to spend 100M in fact. How many people would even be employed in the fantasy rabbit farm.

Big sanctuary by the sea with sea views would make a fair hole in it never mind stocking it with animals to die of old age and pay people to look after them. Not hard at all.

A wage bill of a (absurdly) high 1M a year would still take 100 years to depletion. Buying land won’t be that expensive in the West (and isn’t a loss anyway - it’s just changing the asset type)

Land in the west won’t of Ireland won’t keep many animals and animals will have to be fed during winter with forage made during summer.

Would buy an apartment in town. Two bed and a home office. Big outside terrace and nice views a must. Nothing too big or grand. Don't need every Tom Dick and Harry asking to stay there after a night out, because they know I have a place in town.

Would buy a cottage in Wicklow, near Enniskerry/Sugarloaf to live in during the nice summer months. Good size garden a must. View of Sugarloaf a must. House needs to have a bit of character, but doesn't need to be massive.

Would buy holiday homes in Wexford and Kerry for me and the extended family to vay-cay in. May rent them out as holiday rentals, to earn a few bob on the side. Just because I'm loaded, doesn't mean I won't make my money work to make more money.

Would buy something in the Canaries for the fam to get away to in the winter. A big private pool is a must, as well as proximity to a village or town so driving isn't a must. May be rented out when not in use, as above.

Am also a US citizen and would buy properties in Seattle and Florida to live in when visiting family over there. Again, both may be rented out when not in use.

Would probably hire a property manager to keep track of all of this. Not family. Always dangerous to mix family and business.

Woud get a decent, sturdy car for Wicklow in the winter (a Ranger Rover perhaps) and something zippy for town driving. Would not get anything flashy like a Merc or a BMW, it just makes you a target for thieves. Wouldn't invest in any fancy art work, paintings, racehorses etc etc, No interest. However, I have always loved old antique jewelry so would probably invest in a few really good, really old Cartier pieces. It would be an investment too, as they keep their value over time.

Would not collect my winnings in person. Would send in a solicitor and keep it hush hush. Would tell my immediate family that I won 10 million or so, hence my new found propery portfolio. Would keep the exact number of millions to myself. That is too big a sum not to create conflict and divisions, but 10 mill is a good handy number to do good with, have a great lifestyle but not go nuts on. I'd pay off a few mortgages for family members. Buy every one a new car. Maybe lodge a hundred grand into a family holiday slush fund every year, so that everyone can get a hollier or two out of it all.

Would do my research on setting up trust funds for certain younger family members to receive income in the future to pay for college, a house etc etc, to ease the financial pressure of all that, long after I am gone. It would be managed by trustees (I hear that's how the Rockerfellers do it :D ) so the money would be spent wisely. No coke addled, spoilt brats will be falling out of night clubs on my money. Very large amount would be given to well run charitys. Would do my research there too. Fr Peter McVerry Trust maybe. Certainly none of these organizations where the fat cat CEO earns more than the Taoiseach.

Would like to build an apartment complex near all of the childrens hospitals, so that parents would have somewhere to stay when their kids are in hospital on a long term basis. I'd rent one half out to regular renters and the rental income from that, goes to subsidize the free rent for the parents of the sick kids.

That's about it for now...I'm very bored at work, so I'm sure I'll come up with more later....

That's a lot of houses for one person.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,569 ✭✭✭✭ProudDUB

It's not if said person has half their family here and half their family in the US. And I said the Kerry, Wexford and Canaries houses are holiday houses for the entire extended family to use. I'm generous like that. :D

It's 1m for 5balls (no stars) using EM-Hotpicks, not the easist to access, but compared to this it's the best value there is.

after doing the normal looking after myself, then family and friends stuff, I'd spend it on local community infrastructure, probably within a 30 min radius of my house (which will be one of the islands in the lake that I will take over and build a McMansion on - I'll get the guy that did JPMcManusssss house to do it)

Stuff like playgrounds, sports grounds, schools development, community halls and workspaces, enterprise development - digital/online arts, crafts, food, drink (especially drink) companies, broadband provision, etc etc

I'd aim to have it all allocated within 3 months.

I'd commission a couple of university research centres to do studies of the long-term impact, good bad or indifferent, to such an immediate influx of money into a small rural area.

Oh, and I'd build a data centre in the lake and offer free storage to boardsies. I won't look at yer files. Promise.

I reckon I'd give 20 million to close family and friends, leave aside ten million for charitable and needy causes for the rest of my life, then divide 100 million equally between myself and my best mate so we could do fun stuff with.

With my share, I'd buy a few properties - nothing ostentatious, and probably spend my days writing, farming, and bringing on racehorses. Bliss.

I'd consult the previous recent thread, on this very same matter.

The jacktop for EM is estimated to be €150m, which isn't enough to live on, but still a good start nevertheless.
If you don't want to share the jackpot, avoid the number 19, and also only two numbers from 1-31 (birthdays are commonly used as selections).

    Why 19?

99% of folks were born during the 20th century.
    01 June 1945 = (01, 06, 19, 45, _, _, )

Should add, many people also add in their kids (ages) /birthdays e.g. 10,11,12 average
    so worth avoiding also.

I'd build a massive marble hall the size of the Taj Mahal in the middle of nowhere. It would be completely empty save for a single Faberge egg on a silk pillow held by a silent moustachioed Japanese man in a tuxedo right in the middle, brilliantly lit by a spotlight.

I would only permit the richest sheikhs and oligarchs to enter so they could bid for the egg. I would refuse all bids until such a time that all the richest people in the world go so demented bidding more and more for an item they can't have, that they club together and give away all their riches so that they may own a share of it.

I'd then take the proceeds and buy a League of Ireland team (Longford Town perhaps), and take them all the way to the Champions League Final.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,586 ✭✭✭4068ac1elhodqr

I'd do the very same as the richest man on the planet currently does
i.e. Give away 0.0906% of my new fortune to charity, thank me later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,075 ✭✭✭OU812

What would I do with €130m? Same as this guy with $1m:

First thing I'd do is buy a Delorean. But I'd only drive it from time to time.

150mil this week, I'd move my entire family to safe parts of the city, invite about 10-15 people from around here to a fancy night out, then pay a PMC to carpet bomb this ****hole repeatedly.

Try not to take inspiration from a previous lotto winner (Michael Carroll)

The Lotto winner revealed how "going broke is the best thing that happened to me" and said he's "never been happier" since returning to work. He is currently lifting coal bags in Scotland for a living.

Then again it was only £10m he won, so undertandable how it blew it all in his 10 fun packed years.

A million sterling per year? His septum must be in bits, because I can't imagine how else he could have spent such money in that time unless he was a gambler?

Even if he'd bought property, you'd expect that to have appreciated or, even if it were a bad investment, held its value.

Ah well, I'd say he has some great stories.
