Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Full name Garda Adrijan Kosos, I'm not being rascist Joe but I have never come across or heard of an Eastern European Garda, has anyone else? Besides wouldn't the recruitment freeze have been in place when they started robbing all the poor builders jobs

no there definitely is "non-irish national" gardai, but i havent came across any eastern european. that was my question.

A fairly decent 1st episode, did a good job of setting out some of the characters and part of the backstory. Looking forward to seeing how it progresses.

keep us all updated ; )

    I liked it
Interesting to find out the background to the whole feud thing in future episodes
Its a soap so every episode will end with a 'tune in next time' type finale.

I think people need to give this type of programming time to settle in, but if your not a 'soap' person you probably won't like it or will make a decision before seeing it that you won;t like it

    How nice to be stereotyped.....

Some of the rush by some people to write it off is disappointing. For a first episode I thought they did a good job setting the scene. Everything needs to settle down and in my opinion was well produced, my worry was that it would be bad acting but I thought most of it was promising.

Certainly no worse than any other soap. And I think I will like the garda stories.

its only a bit of craic, the slagging off!! if you look at most soap forums, it is 95% criticism!

And 95% is quite a low criticism rate when you look some of the other TV threads.

Not looking at any show in particular.

The worrying thing is, could this make or break TV3?

Having lost other soaps to UTV Ireland they needed to respond.... I don't think this show will be a success.

Fair City gets sold all over the world.
There's definitely a market for crap out there.

Where else around the world is Fair City broadcast? All I found on Wikipedia was Nothern Ireland and some overspill into the U.K.

I don't watch soaps generally but was curious about this one, maybe because I used to watch The Bill. I don't think it is going to be a "the Bill" but I found it better than I expected. I will watch again.

I was cringing. The music, I almost felt it was trying to be a bit "oh we can be a bit Ennio Morricone's Once Upon a Time In The West soundtrack, but not too Sergio Leone!"

Reminds me of that one season wonder 'deception' on tv3 few years ago!!

that was my feeling too. it was very like the bill. Which for me isn't a bad thing because I loved the bill, so I'll definitely watch again.

I think the problem in ireland is acting not script writing or production. Not enough talent.

    That's bollocks.

Plenty of great actors in Ireland. The problem is the poor writing/production.

When you have to play two dimensional characters, while spouting dreadful dialogue, in underwritten storylines, in conjunction with uninspired direction, and when you're lucky to get more than 2 takes for a shot, then you won't be surprised to know even the best actors can look awful.

What was the accent for that young Guard? Is it meant to be Polish? Sounded almost eye-talian.

Tbh, Im enjoying it. Its no single-handed or heartbeat, but its alright.

    Jonathan Rhys Myers
    Laim Neeson
    Evanna Lynch
    Andrew Scott
    Colin Farrell

    To name but a few.

ok, maybe they will sign these 10 actors/actresses for next season. Question is who will be a Kiely and who will be a Hennessy..

Not enough talent does not equate to no talent, which is what the poster was implying.

Just watched it on the TV3 player and I'd give it a thumbs up and it will be interesting to see how the series develops. Single Handed meets Fair City with a dash of Glenroe. I find the the Gardai far more interesting than the feuding families. 8/10 for the first episode. :D

Am I the only one who thinks 30mins once a week is just too little? People want at least 2x30 minute episodes a week surely?

Not a big fan of tv3, but i thought they did well tonight. Red Rock was pretty good and delighted to see The Resturaunt back on the screen, and did it justice. Will be interesting to see where Red Rock goes.

I thought it was okay, some of the acting was a bit wooden but I guess they need time to get better. I'll need to see a few more episodes before making up my mind.

It doesn't really feel or look like a soap, more of a drama.

Hmm. Not all of them on TV3.

Imagine if we could remake broadchurch here. And We could get the script. The cameraman. The directors. Use local scenery.

but not the actors. It wouldn't work. We don't have the talent.

How many of these live in Ireland? Even the big TV stars fly in from London for a few weeks/months work.

The problem is the money. They don't have the money to attract really good talent.

Is this only on once a week?
