volcano decides to go back to sleep or a change in airmass. ironically it is the good weather that is causing the problem.
if we had bad weather in ireland and england the flights would likely resume.

IMO's radar near Keflavik has not detected the plume from Eyjafjallajökull since 08 o?clock this morning, which implies that it is below 10,000 feet (3 km).

Ok and once they change is it all things go for planes? or will they have to wait a while? if you told me my flight would be delayed a day or two I wouldn't care just dont want it cancelled!

Well the plume is still there it hasn't stopped so don't be getting your hopes up.. you don't need a weather channel to tell you if its there or not you can CLEARLY see in the cams that there IS a plume!

well, no drastic change is forecast for this week.
however a change in the wind direction from the north to west or southwest would make a huge difference.

Right and is that something that is usually picked up in forecasts or something that could just happen all of a sudden?

hmm.. according to yr.no( which usually is fairly accurate) the winds won't be south westerly till saturday.

it usually will be predicted, as forecasts in the three- four days range tends to be fairly accurate these days.

yes you will be. even if we all have to blow together to move the ash way. but seriously a lot can happen in a week. the volcano could stop erupting. it could rain heavily in iceland which would also help disperse the ash. the winds more than likely over Ireland will have changed to a more favourable direction by next week. so don't give up hope yet!

According to projections the ash should be over ireland now right?
I dont hear any word of it on the news though, and what can we expect if the ash cloud is over us, will it block out the sun, will it just look like cloud.

omg.:rolleyes: have you not been listening for the past 4 days? you cant see them because the particles are soo small they are virtually unable to seen from low ground though you will notice in sunset apparently but i haven't noticed!

Yes, the Republic gets the BBC and British channels, I prefer Channel 4 news myself, a bit more gritty journalism.

I suspect the likes of Reuters would be the main news reporter company in the World. That said the BBC has its global reach with its world service, although many probably see it as having a bias so prefer the flavour of their own local news.

Wonder if this other Volcano is going to erupt... could have major consequnces. :eek:

Volcanic eruption: Eyjafjallajökull glacier

The Met Office reports that there is no ash fall south of Eyjafjallajökull glacier. Radar images show no sign of the plume of smoke that has risen from the volcano in recent days. However, instruments still show signs of seizmic activity. Changes in ash fall, seizmic activity and smoke from the volcano indicate that there has been a change in the eruption but it is not possible to say what these changes are as the volcano is not visible.

Many cars around here were covered with dust yesterday morning - mine was caked in it. Don't know whethere this was volcanic ash or something else, but suspect something to do with the former.

I think if the plume doesnt go above a certain height then it doesn't appear on the radar.

The plume has not been detected on IMO's radar since early morning 18.04.2010. It may be under on average about 10000 feet (about 3 km). The greatest height that the plume has reached is 33000 ft (about 11 km) on the first eruption day.

If the plume is currently this low, chances are that it won't disperse as far and wide as it initially did, this chaos might just calm down somewhat.
The ash that is currently in the sky here pretty much all still stems from the initial first and very powerful eruption
