    Lots of lightning.

    Lovely!

Not a fan of the old lightning myself but each to their own.

If all that rain that's showing on the met eireann radar off the south east coast comes ashore that'll cause some serious flooding..

Judging from ME's hourly forecast and the current radar...it could be here for another hour or two yet. Definitely close to the city at the moment. Some real strikes going off.

Ok, it’s bad if it woke me up and I’m posting on boards at 2.40am! Unreal claps of thunder, rain so heavy!

Possibly moving west then - rain much less heavy now. Thunder sounds further away.

Looks like it's easing now around Douglas (un)fortunately. Slight strike to the north as I'm writing but further off.

The storm Just set off our house alarm. Never experienced that before.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,440 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Rain has stopped and if there still lightening and thunder I can't hear anything so it's clearly far enough away in the distance. I don't think I've ever been woken up by thunder and lightening but there we go.

Judging from the rainfall radar Cork may be in for another heavy shower within an hour or two right?

    Disconnect any valuable electronics!

To answer my own question, I see from the 3am met.ie report that Cork Airport recorded 22.2m of rain in the previous hour. Given the rain didnt start til about 2.30am thats 22m in 30 mins! And its raining still.....

Jesus!! Was woken up 10 minutes ago out of a dead sleep by a massive clap of thunder! Big flash of lightning then few minutes later and smaller rumble. Torrential rain still now - Castletroy, Limerick

22.2mm from 2am to 3am at Cork airport. You don't see that too often.
