Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yeah. Only noticed the silverline writing there now. Why mirror the photo?

Just flipped it to match the direction of the original picture, was sure somone would spot the lefty joysticks

    Dat pop/marquee!

Looks cool...bit too modern/flashy/HD though...The original low res/scanlines suit the artwork more imo. Although that might just be me being an old fart :D

I dunno, I think I prefer the original version better.
Although that vid does make me want to power up the point blank cab at home later tonight :)

Can't believe it came out in 1995!

Edit: is it a faked VHS recording, wiki says it came out in 1997?

They could've just got the date wrong, there's a lot of other clips of the same expo.
    Dunno why they'd fake it.

Dariusburst is up on Steam (€36.79/£ 23.99). I've played around 25 hours of the beta over the last couple of weeks and it's pretty much a flawless conversion. There's the full arcade game there (AC mode) which has a ton of content by itself and there's the new home port CS mode which is probably where most people will spend the bulk of their time.

I really can't recommend this enough, I'm still half shocked there's even been a Steam release (and the Vita/PS4 versions coming on 08/12, too!)

Am I the only one who thinks its a bit, eh, fugly?

Each to their own I say, but I wouldn't have it. But then again, I'm a weirdo so best to ignore me and what I like :)

I’m just not a fan of the extra boxy looking candy cabs.
That one looks like it could wash your clothes as well as play a few games of Metal Slug :)

I thought you were talking about the game I mentioned above, apologies! I do like the cab though :p

Its not too bad really, all candys have a certain domestic appliance look about them apart the smaller Jalecos.

That one looks like the result of a regular Candy getting busy with a Lordsvale :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,785 ✭✭✭eddhorse

If it did wash clothes while you played metal slug id say we would be able get them into our houses easier !

I got in contact with the guy selling several candy's in the UK. "Videotronics UK" on FB they are, add was on UKVAC, Think eddhorse posted the link. Anyway he has 4 different types. He gave me a £100 discount if I could collect from Brentford which I believe he is based. Would be a great group buy if it worked out cheaper but thats in a ideal world. Still a trek to get it and a real off putting thing is the sterling which is a killer atm lol. Undecided, he said he has 25 cab with more on the way too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,785 ✭✭✭eddhorse

Are they all working ? Long trek to Brentford near London alright, would be an adventure :)

    Road Trip.

EDIT: its Bradford which is closer to Leeds/Manchester.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,920 ✭✭✭TechnoFreek

I presume by 100 pound discount he means that's the cost for shipping he's added on.

So the real question is can you get a van and yourself over and back to Brentford for less.

Otherwise just take the hit and pay up for the cab and shipping.

Candy cabs are money pits. If you're worried about saving a few quid on the cab itself due to shipping, exchange rates etc, don't. You're going to spend the same again on games, repairs, accessories and generally getting it looking A1.

This is not a cheap hobby.

    Hope this helps.

From my own experience of buying from pics, it would be nice to see the cabs in person first and choose the one you want.

Gave it a quick blast there using the Namco stick + Mayflash adapter, worked great. Dual screen is very cool. Will have to give this some of my time now along with Xenoblade.

After seeing in person a driver filling the motels, i wouldn't send anything rare or precious with them.

And then there's my personal suspicion that a lot of stuff gets opened by pmotel(which i think is illegal as they are not customs). I only use them for stuff that can be replaced easily, which a nice PCB cannot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,725 ✭✭✭The Last Bandit

I received a call from them (PM) recently, the sender has omitted the PMID on the parcel so they opened it and had to call everyone on their system with the same name and play guess the parcel...

Not easy to remember them all when you've several packages en-route.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,076 ✭✭✭safetyboy

^^^ That happened me before they rang and asked if I could name the contents of a package which they obviously had opened.

    gotta be DHL or something.
even if its 20/30e it'd be worth it on a game of that value.

My "Parcel Motel" isnt even a locker setup, its a plastic container behind the desk in the garage. the locker was taken out of the garage last year for some reason.

everytime you collect a parcel the person on in the shop lifts each parcel out checking for your name and f*cks them on the floor until they find yours. literally drops them on the floor from waist height. if you had something valuable it would be in a million pieces. so annoying.

I got a parcel delivered to that motel in your area last Xmas. I was wandering around like an fool looking for the motel locker. I knew it was inside the garage but thought it would be something other than a box behind the desk. I figured it out when I could see the firebox.com box with my name, number and pmotel details on it :)

Still, i didnt like the fact everyone could see all my info(probably all day as it was delivered there in the morning and I grabbed it at 6-7pm!).

Oh yeh, its brutal and its even worse now since the tablet broke 3 months ago, you no long get a 4 digit code to collect the parcel, the text just says "0" on it. you just walk in and say your name. thats it, no ID, no nothing, just say your name and they go through the pile. I could easily look at the parcels over the desk and see a name on it and just say yeh thats me. haha..

Mainly playing current gen stuff recently (Starbound & Ori and the Blind Forest) but had some friends visiting today and one of them spotted the candy hiding under it's covers. I hadn't turned it on since the summer maybe so had my fingers crossed as I powered it on, she worked fine (as always). Played some Raiden DX and ESP Ra. De., reminded me why I love candies and vert shmups. He was smitten too. :D

Raiden DX, truly the most excellent of Shmups.
It's like they decided to create perfection and just did it, stood back and were pleased.

I can name all the candy cabs I see in the background of an anime for split seconds now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,886 ✭✭✭Steve X2

My Makey Makey Go's arrive today. They were a Kickstarter I backed a while ago.
Testing at the moment but I should be able to use one inside the candy cab as a very hidden button for whatever I want/need. Basically you can turn anything that will conduct even the smallest amount electricity into a keyboard press or mouse click. So maybe I'll use an easily reached screw or rivet on the candy as an exit in MAME or something similar.

I'm using a potato as a mouse left click in the below pic :)

Very interesting idea especially for cabs as I don't want to replace a lock under the control panel with a push switch as is often done.

I set it up on the candy today. Works fine and I've one of the rivets on the cpanel set as the "Escape" button for MAME.
I already have a couple of buttons underneath the cpanel so not sure what I'll actually end up using it as.
